    I bought the Tamron over the holidays this year and have been using it to photograph my son’s volleyball games. So far, the lens is super sharp and is able to freeze the action perfectly with the right shutter speeds. The zoom length is good for this distance too. Can’t wait to use this outdoors when it gets warmer. Thanks for the videos!

      ohh nice one! thanks for the use case, I'm guessing these games happen outdoors in the sun? Or would indoor lights be bright enough to use fast shutter speeds too?

    Thankyou. I recently bought the Sigma 18-50 to use with my Sony A6400. Ive only used it a few times and love it. BUT then I foolishly started likking at what wlse was out there. After watxhing your video and a xouple of others I bit the bullet and have traded in the Sigma for the Tamron. I am really getting in to street photography and am looking forward to the autumn and winter to do some night shots. The stabilisation on the Tamron has swung it for me. Hopefully I've made the right decision.

    I also chose between these three lenses, and reasoned similarly: The Sony 16-55 didn't make much sense to go for due to its price. I could've gone for the Sigma 18-50, which also has a lower minimum focal distance, which I could take use of. However, I don't mind the extra weight and price of the Tamron, if it means that I'll get that extra focal range. It also does close-ups well, and the stabilization is great for handheld photos and videos, which I do a lot of. I always buy my lenses second hand, and the best purchase I found was the Tamron, and I'm happy with it. I spent a lot of time researching these trio of lenses before I made a decision, so hopefully I could make someone else's decision easier with this comment, haha. 😂
    Congratulations on an interesting and high-quality video. I predict great growth for your channel!

      @JimmyShixin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thanks for sharing and the kind words Domino!
      yea to this day I'm still not sure why one would opt for the sony 16-55 over the tamron as its more expensive but has less zoom range - Im probs oversimplyfing as there are definitely other factors than price and zoom range but at the end of the day surely those two are the most important?

    • @dominodevelopment
      @dominodevelopment ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimmyShixin I heard from some pros that it boils down to the quality. 🙃 The build quality of the Sony lens is definitely superior, and the image it produced probably packs that extra punch. And I personally wouldn't mind 16-55, as I think that extra mm on the wide end is about equivalent to the additional 15mm telephoto that the Tamron offers. But then, the Sony lens has no stabilization with APS-C cameras, from what I can tell, and the minimum focus distance isn't nearly as good as the Tamron or Sigma. These are important aspects of an all-around lens for me. But of course, the price of the Sony lens makes it a no-brainer to not buy for most of us. 😂

      @@JimmyShixin Yes, particularly the one where you mention wanting a lens that makes it so you don't have to swap lenses as often and how doing so in public might make you more susceptible to theft as people could be eying your gear. I know the pros and cons between zoom lenses and prime lenses, but that was something I had never considered before! But also you saying that if you are travelling, you don't always know what you'll be taking photos of is something I (and I reckon a lot of people with me) sort of knew already in the back of my mind, but never thought about as clearly before, so that was nice to properly realise as well :) Hope that helps!

    Jimmy, I've been enjoying your content lately and this video of yours solidified the decision to get the Tamron on my Sony a6000, paired with the Samyang 12mm F2.0 manual for landscapes / astro and possibly the Sigma 56mm F1.4 for portrait / candid night street photography.
    Whilst the Sigma 18-50mm is a good choice, having the extra 20mm and stabilisation with the Tamron effectively future-proofs your camera lens if you decide to delve deeper in your photo journey, saving more time and money for that next lens you may need.
    Would you recommend taking the Sigma 56m F1.4 for purely travel as well as the Tamron + Samyang, or is the third lens a but too much for you?

    • @JimmyShixin
      @JimmyShixin  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Anthony! really appreciate it and congrats on the new lens!
      While travelling I tend to actually bring my Sigma 30 F1.4 as a third lens if I do bring it, and the 56mm would be in 4th place in my personal ranking. This is mainly because I found the 30mm just a little bit more flexible because it's slightly more zoomed out - sometimes the 56 (85mm full frame equivalent) is a bit too zoomed in for me to meaningfully show my environment / add context to the photo. Having said that, both are solid to bring as an additional lens as they provide amazing nighttime capabilities

    Also in the Sigma vs Tamron rabbit hole currently. I've heard a couple of people, including review channels, mention that the Tamron, in particular, creates a vacuum when zooming and takes in a fair amount of dust. I'm sure all zooms would do that, but I've watched a fair amount of your videos in different climates, many of which are sandy and dusty. So I guess to the question, have you found that your lens has taken in a fair amount of dust? Appreciate all the effort

    Years back I bought the A6000 used and I am now returning to the hobby. I currently have the Sony 3.5-5.6 18/55 lens that I use to take pictures of my friends and pieces of technology like steam engines. A few questions:
    1. My used lens is not the standard kit lens, but I can't really find where it fits in. It seems to be made of metal and of decent quality. What is the general consensus on this lens and would this Tamron be sharper and work better in low light situations? It looks pretty banged up from the outside but I think the lens itself is still good (maybe a bit greasy).
    2. Currently I am disappointed with the low light performance of the camera. I understand newer cameras can handle higher ISO values. If I spend a good chunk of money on this new lens, would I be able to use it on a newer camera later on or is the Sony a6x00 series expected to be discontinued?
    3. As this lens is quite big/long, would it be better to upgrade to a used full frame camera with kit lens in terms of portability?

    • @JimmyShixin
      @JimmyShixin  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey hey! thanks for the Qs, pls see my answers below:
      1. Comparing 18-55 F3.5-5.6 vd Tamron 17-70 F2.8
      Sharpness I'm not sure as I don't pay much attention to it but low light will definitely be better for Tamron given its power aperture.
      You also get to zoom to 70mm and get more bokeh in your photos due to the lower min. aperture
      2. Using the lens on newer cameras
      The sony a6700 just came out and will be a solid APSC options for years to come (I'm still on a6500 and will upgrade to 6700 soon). You can also use these APSC lenses on full frame cameras (it's not ideal as youre not utilizing the full sensor but still possible).
      3. In my opinion, APSC + good zoom is much better than FF + kit lens. Generally I don't really like kit lenses at all and given the fact that lenses are more important than the body in many cases I'd defo say that APSC + a solid zoom is a much better option
      Feel free to check out the affiliate links in the description for the Tamron lens if the answers were helpful (if you use them it support the channel without extra cost to you)

    My preference: Sony, Sigma, then Tamron. The Sony sits in the middle in terms of weight and size (very important to me), while having the best AF accuracy, and sharpness among the three. The only problem is the price.
    After waiting for some time, i got one used at a similar price to the Tamron brand new (still expensive, but wth..)
    I’m very impressed with image quality, and having really good AF and sharpness wide open at any focal length does make it easier to get good shots in fleeting moments.

      good question!
      It depends on what you will use the wide angle lens for. Personally if I'm vlogging or taking architecture photos w the samyang 12mm I don't need to zoom.
      You need to decide if the 10-24 zoom range is more useful to you or if the lower aperture on the 13mm is more useful. I take a lot of photos of churches when travelling and it can be quite dark so I would personally choose the lower aperture lens

      Hmm thats a good question - the tamron 18-300 has less wide aperture but assuming you do these daytime activities maybe that's fine. The extra reach will be super nice for sure and 18-300 means you never have to change your lens.

      While I personally have not used this lens I think it's a great budget friendlier option (429GBP for sigma vs 679GBP for tamron) - BUT like I said in the vid I really like zooming in a lot and I'd rather pay the extra money to be able to take photos between 50-70MM - if you don't care as much about that and are happy with the zoom range of the sigma I'd say go for it!

      @@JimmyShixin One of my instagram DMs came through! I shot an event yesterday haha. It would have been easier while still in college but I with just street photography I managed to peak some interest! If you want I can send you a link when it’s ready, no big deal if you don’t. It wasn’t paid but made quite a few contacts basically doing what you said above!
