Sie gehörten zu den großen Vorreitern des Crossover-Trends Anfang und Mitte der Neunziger: Clawfinger aus Stockholm. Nach einer Dürrephase in den Nullerjahren ist die Band heute wieder erfolgreich.
Anfang der 1990er Jahre lernten sich Sänger Zak Tell und Keyboarder/Gitarrist Jocke Skog in einem Stockholmer Krankenhaus bei der Arbeit kennen. Weitere zwei Mitglieder rekrutierten sie ebenfalls an ihrem Arbeitsplatz. Ihr Sound: krude, eingängige Raps über einfachen Metalriffs und Keyboardsounds, irgendwo zwischen Nu Metal und Punk.
Von den Medien wurden sie zur europäischen Antwort auf Rage Against The Machine (RATM) hochgejubelt, aber Clawfinger wollten sich nie mit den Crossover-Titanen aus L.A. messen. Die einzige Gemeinsamkeit zwischen den beiden Bands war ohnehin der Mix aus Rap und Metal und die sozialkritischen Lyrics, aber Clawfinger waren nie so sophisticated wie RATM und zudem stolz auf ihren artifiziellen, ohne Gitarrenamps erzeugten Sound und die Loops und Keyboard-Elemente. Ihre Gitarren gingen direkt ins Mischpult und klangen eher wie Sägen. Sie verzichteten im Gegensatz zu RATM auch stets komplett auf Gitarrensoli - bei Clawfinger ging immer alles direkt auf die 12.
Nach der Hochzeit des Crossover sah es lange so aus, als würden auch Clawfinger das Zeitliche segnen, aber die Band biss sich durch und ist seit einigen Jahren wieder schwer beliebt und spielt ausverkaufte Konzerte.

We have been so lucky to have Clawfinger & the whole neo-metal league during our mid 90's to 00's. Not only were they all masters of getting the juice out of you in a concert with incredible tunes, but also they had all deep sense of human, humanity, respect and tolerance messages ! eternal respect !

Funfact: they were good friends with Rammstein and they actually played a big role in how Rammstein developed their sound. Both bands got very similar riffs.

heavier than their cd's, this surprised me, the singer always had an original style, certain flow, its rap-hip hop metal done right , all those words & he doesn't miss any, the band is also tight doing that straight up steady beat, some solos would of been cool..thanks for posting

On September 2, 1995, the 2nd edition of the Philips Monsters Of Rock festival took place at the Pacaembu Stadium, in São Paulo, Brazil, which brought together 45 thousand people. I was at this festival. Order of presentations: Clawfinger, Rata Branca, Virna Lisi, Lost Paradise, Therapy? Megadeth, Faith No More, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne. Clawfinger was a sonic innovation, very good!

Great to see Clawfinger still kicking ass. One of the craziest shows I've ever been to was these guys in Lisbon back in the early 90's. Most stage diving ever in a concert.
Zac put on his beer belly, but his youthful energy still doesn't leave him and rest of the band...RESPECT. "Deaf, Dunmb, Blind" is on my top 10 pro - metal albums ever...every song it's for hit made

Wow good to see them again still doing their thing, I lost track about this band throughout the years but back in early 90s they were dope n true first fathers of rap metal. At first there was Dog Eat Dog, RATM from USA and Clawfinger from Sweden.

I was really into Clawfinger back in the 90s, and still listen to them. And if you like that style, also check out the british act Senser. Probably the most underrated 90s band ever
