this honestly makes a lot of sense. im guessing they had to rush the game out for whatever reason and didnt have time to rearrange the later zones, boss themes, hub theme etc. it’d definitely explain why the soundtrack suddenly changes styles every 2 seconds
Some of the tracks weren't finalized before the day-one patch, so yeah, they didn't take time to finish the music. Like always, Sega and their deadlines, they don't let their people have time to do quality products.
The songs don't seem early at all (at least to me), I think they sound early because of Jun being the lead sound designer, and many other music artists who composed and arranged for this game were just collaborators. I'm pretty sure the songs were already finished, but most arranged by Jun.

I'm glad to see that Sonic 4 somehow manages to live on. Seriously though, while the final version is definitely better objectively-speaking, there's something I like about the (what I like to call) "psuedo-Genesis" style of 4's instrumentation.
@@MisterSandmanAU see the thing is that, back then, he composed the music using his normal toolset and instruments and conversion for the Genesis chip was someone else’s job When we heard full versions of his 3D blast tracks in Adventure it sure didn’t sound anything like what his modern “Genesis” music sounds like I genuinely just don’t think the dude has a good handle on how to use that chip to make music like Genesis games actually had, because back when he was making music for the ACTUAL genesis he wasn’t approaching it as *music for a limited chip* he was approaching it the same way he would any other music he’d make
@@azuraracon6406 he's credited for his genesis arrangements, he also did some of maeda's 3d blast arrangements. idk where that misconception comes from, because he himself wanted to use a YM2612 for STH4, which i doubt he would ask for if he didn't have experience. instead he has to put up with vsts in pro tools. i'm positive if you gave him a genesis tracker, he'd actaully be able to make some bangers.

The one we got in the final game is no doubt a better piece, but I find myself enjoying this one more. Really wish we could’ve heard Act 2 in the Sonic 4 soundfont.
@@Leo_D_Vinci I don't believe that one was ever Genesis styled, but the instrumentation on the mini boss theme is still pretty weak. What's crazy to me is that some of the songs in the game are pretty horrible, but them some of them are amazing imo. Lagoon City Zone Act 1 and 2, and Act Amy are all great. I also love Golden Capital Zone Act 2. The only Jun Senoue tracks that I think are good are Sky Temple Zone (at least I think it's Senoue) and then Bridge Island (after someone else rearranged it lol)
It'd be funny if this is evidence that some themes will get updated once the game launches for real. (The credits theme uses this version of the track, for instance.)

This is probavly one if the best sonic 4-esque songs I've heard. I can see why this was changed though, I nean this sounds no different to the music in sobic 4 and that would've clashed with what superstars is trying to do like sone of tbe sonic 4 esque tracks that ARE in the final game. I don't knkw what jun likes about the sonkc 1/2 snare so much, it makes the music sound cheap to me.
