What do you think about the TrimUI Smart Pro and Tomato OS? *The Ali Express link already bumped the price to $61, but poke around and you might find one closer to $50-55*
I already have 1.0.3 which allows you to turn off rumble, go direct to retroarch, and reasign the function key without Tomato. I have Tomato on my Trimui Smart and I like it. The only reason though that I might try it on my Trimui Pro is to try the second N64 emulator, as Mario Golf doesn't play on the one that comes with it. To be frank though, I'd rather have Tomato on my Trimui Model S,...but sadly they've never made it for that one. 😢
Bought mine under 50usd a few weeks back, white model without sd card. This is the magical price point for Brazil sales and avoiding brutal import taxes.
"Knowledge is knowing that tomatoes are technically fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put tomatoes in a fruit salad." - Henry J. Heinz, probably. I enjoyed this video. I don't own a Smart Pro; but, with the price drop and this tutorial on TomatoOS I can now see myself considering it. This new OS is pretty fly for a white TrimUI.
More than half of these features are part of v1.03 stock firmware not Tomota OS. I dont really see the point of getting Tomato OS without something significant like vulkan support. My trim UI shipped with v1.03. And has all these features youre calling Tomato OS features.
My Smart Pro, with the newer firnware runs everything so well. I'd say i get better performance over the 3356 chipset on PSP and dreamcast emulation and the screen is beautiful. Its such an underrated gem.
It definitely needs standalone n64. 1.0.3 is already the best Linux firmware I’ve ever experienced(other than OnionOS but it’s so good it’s not even fair to compare it against others). It’s literally already significantly better than ArkOS or JelOS. My rumble also never sounds like it’s farting. Also it doesn’t have MUCH less performance than the x55. It’s about 10-15% less powerful.
Well, I paid the original price and I still think I got a great deal. This has been my go to for GBA, as you said it's just perfect for that, but PSP has also been good enough at least for me. Vulkan will definitely be a plus there, might actually have to try out this here Tomato sauce. Nice review Zu!
@@retrohandhelds Yeah, I had bought a R36S for 30$ first, then at the end of the sales smart pro appeared in good price, I was aiming in a RG35XX H too, but couldnt find nearly cheap as this
I have over 10 handhelds and this runs more higher end systems the best out of the box and that includes all the review demos about it. I also have the x55 and it runs almost as well out of the box. So I don't know what you're talking about.
Dragon Warrior/Quest on the original NES was great. I imported the Asian market cartridge for the switch when it was released. Good to see people still enjoying the classics in many forms.
Does anybody have some experience with N64 and Dreamcast emulation on that thing? I really like the design of that console but N64 is very important to me :)
Hi guys. I accidentally dropped my Trimui Smart Pro in water...I turned it off and the next day I opened it to dry the inside of the console. I wanted to remove the battery but I used a screwdriver. I messed up by going a little too hard and saw a spark. After which, I managed to peel it off with a plastic card. Now I would like to find another battery, but I can't find any on google. I wrote to Trimui, I am waiting for a response. But if you know where I can find one, I'm interested. Thank you so much.
How do DS games run on this with Tomato OS? I remember seeing many say this device struggled with DS at launch. Would be great to get a Linux device that could run DS games with horizontal screens on a sweet 16x9 layout! Thanks for the review!
It's not supposed to matter as long as it's fat32, but I had some minor behind the scenes trouble and just used a loose 8gb card for the update file only.
Does anyone know how to turn off the annoying Blip Sound when navigating through the menus? I deleted the file in some folder, but it seems to be in the Firmware, too?
I just turned the volume down in settings and then turned it up with the buttons in-game. I wish there was a dedicated toggle for it like in emulation station.

Hi, firmware 1.0.4 is out (with vulkan support), can we expect an updated review + setup guide?

Cheers Zu, nice to put the spotlight on this, it's making a lot of sense now. Highly tempted, still a few very good deals on Ali.

Vice city stories plays smooth on the stock OS... I really like this console.
This Handheld needs Stand-alone N64 and Dreamcast emulators.
This handheld needs muOS and Portmaster, isn't it @adixal? 😅
don't forget sega saturn

No problem! I really liked it and I think the Smart Pro might be poised for its second act.

I've replayed it a few times, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't prefer the GBC version now. Just too many little QoL additions to ignore.

This is an amazing handheld at the $40-50 price range.

Hi, I purchased the product and I want to add an audio video player. how do I do it?
I also remember getting a copy of Dragon Warrior with my Nintendo Power subscription. My older brother played it a lot more than I did lol.
I still have the manual/guidebook. The poster was hung up in the den by the TV because it had a map on it!
@@retrohandhelds Wowzers! I can’t believe you still have it. That is awesome. Unfortunately my mom got rid of all my Nintendo Power stuff decades ago.
