    I have this guitar and I love it to death. Bought it from a Guitar Center for 700USD about 4 years ago as it was the one that had been exhibited for a while and was a bit scratched. I’ve compared it to top tier SGs from friends and it delivers just as good. Obviously you can notice certain thins in the build as the ones you mention, and in the sound too in comparison to a higher level SG, but it has this rawness to it. It’s real and it has a rowdiness to it that I certainly want when I want the SG sound. Absolutely love it and wouldn’t change it for the world.

    Bruh i went to a big Guitar Store to buy an Gibson Les Paul Custom Alpine White for 5799 €.. Tried this exact SG by accident because it hanged accross the Les Pauls on the wall and it stood out with its natural look from the rest of the Guitars. As soon as i picked it up in my hands it felt epic.. I fell in love with its neck instantly. Everything is so nice and tight, the neck epic, my hands flies on the neck while playing.. I ended up buying this Guitar and a Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Les Paul in Alpine White.. BOth Guitars together around 2,400€ and well spent.. Im totally satisfied with my purchase and i have definately more fun and more inspiration than i would have with the single Custom LP for 5799€ because i know definately that that Gibson Custom LP will end up as a dust collector on the wall one day.. My next Purchase will be a Standard Gibson LP..

      @@becauseguitarsolos1264 thanks, i enjoy it a lot. This SG can easely be a "shredder" guitar.. The neck feels similar to the neck on my RG550 Ibanez which is thin aswell and made for shredding.

    Too many videos are made by guys doing that 'TH-cam personality'. What a nice difference

    Thanks for the great demo, I've just ordered mine partly because of that. For me, the maple neck, lack of binding and dot inlays are big advantages for me. I also think they are expensive, but it's my first and maybe only Gibson and hopefully a long term investment that will give me many years of enjoyment...

    Great video. I'm glad I found your channel. I subscribed. I have the exact same gutiar. I swapped the bridge pickup for a Demarzio Super Distortion, put a Stewmac roller bridge, and Gibson fine tuner tail piece on it. This made it a few ounces heavier, and it will never have any neck dive. It didn't anyhow, but I wanted to make it my own. Through my Orange Super Crush 100 Amp and 4-12 cabinet, it's BADASS!!

      @@becauseguitarsolos1264 Makes all the difference to guitar demos hearing someone play the way you do. Especially on that SG! I got one at a price similar to yours recently. Was never much of an SG guy, then loved the feel of one when I played it. So happy they made a barebones version too, as I agree with you about simplicity.
      Mine's with my local tech for a full set up, as the one I got was a little badly tweaked with by the previous owner. Can't wait to get it back!

    I've never jived with the 490 pickups in any of my Gibsons. They seemed lifeless so I always replace them with Gibsons 496R/500T which give a huge range of flavors. Especially with volume taper pots that can roll off the saturation nicely.

    The weight of that thing shocked me to my core. I have never,ever held a guitar so light. And the resonance too. It resonates like mad. The only thing I'm gonna do to mine is have it lacquered by a luthier. Not a big fan of satin finish.

    Got mine yesterday new from online store, first impressions whas just wtf?😂 For that money a lot of disappointments, especially fretboard with neck notch or alignment(dont know how to discribe that), like fretboard is narrower than neck. After proper setup it feels like ok(ish) guitar, but the top side of the fretboard(where your thumb is) is kind of sawed off between the fret ends, that annoys me the most. However, the bottom side is straight and good. I saw the same issue at some photo of the used one. I'm curious if you have the same issue on yours? I'm thinking to return the guitar because of that..

    • @becauseguitarsolos1264
      @becauseguitarsolos1264  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same issue, it's what I mention at 7:24. On mine it is not that bad, but if your model is such that it bothers you, I'd ship it back. Alignment between neck and fretboard is a known issue on several Gibson models, typically the ones that do not have binding on the fretboard. Good luck and don't let this get you down.

    what amp are you using i play with a peavey classic 30 and the bridge pick up sound harsh..in crunch and pushed cleans? do you think is the guitar or the amp??

    • @becauseguitarsolos1264
      @becauseguitarsolos1264  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean like 'ice pick' harsh? I've never experienced that with this guitar, and I use a pretty bright amp (Marshall DSL). The bridge pickup gives me a gnarly clean with some bite, but no harshness. If you could borrow a Tele or a Strat, try and compare how they sound with your amp when you're on the bridge pickup. The SG should sound fatter and rounder. If it doesn't, there might be an issue with the guitar.

    Well, I have something funny to add about my SG. Mine is slathered with bling! 😂 Look up the SG Supra Antique Natural. I got it last year for 2500 from Reverb. The Gibson Demo Shop. I have all the pluses you mentioned. No real negatives. The only thing I’ve done to her is change my knobs to crystal clear because I hate the witch hat style. Because of all the pickup combinations, she’s a tone machine. Just shy of 8 lbs, but it doesn’t feel it. Great balance no neck dive.

    No real significant difference between the Gibson Sg standard Tribute Sg and Gibson standard Sg..all you have to do is look at both specs the proof is there

  • @leobender2910
    @leobender2910 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    SGs weren't worth $500 two or three years ago. I like your videos and your music but you aren't right here and this kind of misinformation sparks a great deal of resentment towards guitar companies. A new Faded SG which is a counterpart for the today's Tribute cost around $650... but more than 10 years ago. Have you not noticed Squiers going up from around $250-350 price range to $400-500 in the last 5 years? That's right, "big" guitar brands are getting more expensive, but in all fairness the cost remains about the same only adjusted for inflation. In the case of Gibson a tad more expensive than that, but you have to factor in that it's tough to manufacture anything in the developed countries and keep competitive prices. After all there's a reason that both Gibson and Fender are the last big truly American guitar brands, and both often stagger on the brink of bankruptcy. You pay not just for the guitar, you pay for the legend. I know it sounds super cliched, but it absolutely applies here. After all Rolex aren't the most accurate watches, but there aren't many watches people would prefer to Rolex. And finally imagine both Fender and Gibson wrapped it up for good, would you like such a world? I know I wouldn't.

      And to the volume roll off, I'd venture to guess it's not pots, it's the pickups - 490s are significantly hotter than classic PAFs(some are as hot as 14kOhm and they don't tend to clean up as well
