Doesn't seem very sporting to use cages and attractant. I grew up at the North Jersey Shore and did a lot of crabbing at Stockton Lake in Sea Girt, on the Manasquan River and in Barnegat Bay. All we used for bait were fish heads tied to a string. If we felt a tug, we slowly pulled on the string to bring the fish head to the surface and then attempted to scoop the crab up with a net. Lots of fun and good eating.
So many of the crabs you added to the bushel were far under the 4 1/2 inch limit. Including a female that was approximately three inches. At this point, ethically, you should not be taking females. I'm sure NJ fish and Game will be interested in your video.
I believe he was sorting through them at the end of the trip. Naturally taking the big legal crab and returning the rest. Now, The law states undersized & female must be returned immediately. I'm quite sure no crab were harmed during filming.
Tip: Let your bait (often chicken necks) sit out in the sun a day or so until it gets "ripe". Crabs are scavengers like buzzards and are attracted to rotting flesh. A day of waiting is cheaper than any commercial "scent".
Don't worry it'll get stinky in the warm water faster than you could think of it leaving it out just makes it smell bad and gets on your hand and smells everything up it's all bull but the blue crab fuel really does work and I use fresh fish that out those chicken sometimes so it's just what the wrong but rotten chicken it's not good for anybody enjoy salmonella

I have never caught crab in a lake. Must have a saltwater channel leading to it and backs up on flood tides

I agree Ted. I would be ashamed to film myself taking so many baby crabs.

You can actually take females without eggs at your discretion not take 1 not legal size or carriers you can loose all your gear and be fined
Do they have any Piers that you can do a little crabbing on that river
You talked about soaking sponges yet didn’t show any of them in the video ... I’m guessing your bait didn’t work as good as you thought 🤣😂
How long do you guys leave each crab cag out there before you pull it out?
You pull the traps every 15-20 minutes
Nice Video

What kind of traps do you use?

Thank bro
Crabbing drops off after two hours using fresh bait, than picks right up after changing out old bait to new fresh bait.

That guy was keeping undersized crabs…
No, he wasn't. We checked every one of them for sorting after this, but thank you for your concern.
Blue claw crabs may cause cancer
That's Central Jersey not Northern. Get it right!
