This is hands down the best trout introductory video I’ve seen. You get right to the point and make it super easy to understand and show that trout fishing can be very budget friendly.
this year will be my very first time ever fishing. A few guys and I are planning to go fishing 2 weeks from now, as a beginner I found this to be beyond helpful. I wasn't even aware people could look up trout spots online. thanks for all the info!
*excellent advice and tips Steve!! this brings back a lot of memories for me when I use to fish, been traveling and living in the cities too long! haha hope all is going well!!*
Great tutorial! Brought back great memories of NJ trout fishing with my late dad when I was in high school in the early 1980s. We lived near Princeton and usually fished Assunpink Creek or Stony Brook, but on the weekends we headed north to the Musconetcong or Pequest. Keep up the great videos. I subscribed.
Thank you so much for stopping in and leaving that comment. I appreciate that a lot. Glad you liked the video. I’m a fan of the musky and Pequest as well. Fishing makes great memories!
I used to do the same thing. This video really makes me feel bad that we don't go anymore. I feel like all my friends that used to go are just interested in work and home. I get it but it's sad.
Hello sir I do trout fishing when I get the chance but like I said I don't got a Jersey license I live on Staten Island right across the river from you guys the only place I go trout fishing is out in Long Island I always do a little fly fishing at. Connetquot State Park I take the Long Island Railroad out there I don't have a car but I don't mind traveling and there's a hatchery in that Park an out there that is Brook Trout brown trout and rainbow trout
Any recommendations for somewhere near Blackwood NJ? I’d like to put my Dad on some stocked trout, he is a disabled Vet so an easy access lake or pond would be great.
Hey there Nick thank you for stopping in! I’m not too sure of any trout fishing near you. I did a quick search and I think the best spots near you would be Oak Pond in Winslow, Rowands pond in Clementon Boro or Gloucester city pond in Gloucester City. Best of luck out there and thank you for watching! 👍
Thank you so much! I haven’t really thought too much about guiding trips but I definitely know some good guides in the NJ area. Thanks for stopping in! 👍👍
Thank you very much I appreciate that. I don’t give away exact spots due to consideration for other fisherman but you can find many spots just like this one all over Nj. Thanks for stopping in 👍👍
Thank you! Depends on the water clarity. If it’s clear then maybe not. But if it’s murky you might be alright. It will probably be alright it most cases. Just preferably lighter line is best. Thanks for stopping in 👍👍👍
Im from central/north NJ so I find myself fishing somerset, Morris, Sussex and hunterdon counties. I fish a bunch of different rivers. Good luck out there!!
Hi Alexis thanks for the comment. I’ve actually been testing a relatively inexpensive bootfoot wader. The video will be posted soon but if you are interested in them I have a discount code for 15% off. www.hisea.com I’ve been testing the neoprene duck hunting wader. I think they are a good deal for the price. You can use code linecook for the 15% off.
You can definitely give that a shot but the smaller reel will hold light line better and rod would be more sensitive, which will throw smaller lures better. That combo you are using is more of a bass combo. I’d say use it for now until you decide to go to a Walmart or Dicks sporting goods and pick up a trout combo. You can probably find ones there for under $50 if you look. Good luck out there! Also if you are fishing stocked ponds and lakes then it’s a different story because you could make that reel work.
I’d have to say a decent amount of trout die when the water gets too warm. But with good water temperatures trout can be caught in the summer. It may be slower fishing but you can find them in deeper holes.
Thanks for watching Brian, unfortunately I’m not going to say exact places but there are a lot of small streams in central & northern NJ. You can definitely find good spots on that link I posted with the stocking spots. Thanks for watching 👍

Great information. I use 4 lb line on my crappie poles. Definitely makes it easier to cast light lures. I love using a rooster tail.
Thanks Rob. The spool is more expensive but definitely worth it. I use the same combo for crappie too.
Great vid! Been looking for detailed explanations like this.
I appreciate that! I’m glad you could find it useful 👍 thanks for watching.

You’re welcome
Great video! Love the tips. I'm just getting into trout fishing in NJ, where is this location? Seems like a great spot to spend some time!
Thank you very much I appreciate that. I don’t give away exact spots due to consideration for other fisherman but you can find many spots just like this one all over Nj. Thanks for stopping in 👍👍
Great video! Do you think I could get away with 6 pound fluorocarbon?
Thank you! Depends on the water clarity. If it’s clear then maybe not. But if it’s murky you might be alright. It will probably be alright it most cases. Just preferably lighter line is best. Thanks for stopping in 👍👍👍
What county you usually trout fish at ?
Im from central/north NJ so I find myself fishing somerset, Morris, Sussex and hunterdon counties. I fish a bunch of different rivers. Good luck out there!!
I wish waders didn’t cost so much cause I know it will be a game changer from standing in the edge in my hunting boots.
Hi Alexis thanks for the comment. I’ve actually been testing a relatively inexpensive bootfoot wader. The video will be posted soon but if you are interested in them I have a discount code for 15% off.

Most places don’t open until the first!!!
Yes you are right, I definitely covered that in the beginning. Thanks for stopping in. 👍
Hi I’m from NJ and new to fishing.. question is can I use a 2500-3000 reel on a medium fast rod? It’s the only rod I have lol
Great video. Maybe we can get together and you can teach me a thing or two
Hey, do you know any good spots for trout in south Jersey. Creeks? Rivers?
Thanks!
I don’t typically fish south Jersey so unfortunately I don’t. Good luck out there 👍
@@thelinecook Thanks anyway! Love your channel!
Hey man where did you go in nj
Very hard to find good spots that aren't picked clean.
do the trout die off by summer?
I’d have to say a decent amount of trout die when the water gets too warm.
But with good water temperatures trout can be caught in the summer. It may be slower fishing but you can find them in deeper holes.
Where can I fish for tiger trout or wild trout in NJ?
Can you give me locations of trout in New Jersey please ?
This is the 2022 trout stocking schedule. Good luck out there. 👍
