It sounds better because this was performance was properly mixed for DVD quality. Most of the live stuff Metallica posts these days is thrown together pretty fast with a quick mix which doesn't do very much for the band, makes em sound like shit most of the time.
Jieuo Villanueva if he sang like that all the time he wouldn't have a voice after the first couple of gigs. If you want him to be able to keep touring and recording, he needs to preserve his singing capacity through a different technique. It might not be "metal", but it's the (more) correct way to sing.

This version playing slower than original, and I understanding all musiciants of Metallica. One of my favorite all time songs, cliff killed the intro on album basically doing Bachs version of come sweet death and doing it in typical cliff fashion making it his own, cliff was more than an amazing musician, he was a composer. James riffs and rhythms are fucking sick, so glad I saw damage Inc tour in 86. But I have to say the boys are slaying it still, this song is a hard one to play but songs fucking amazing , good job boys, cliff would proud!
My favorite DVD of 2009-2011, the way how they play, the sound is so clear and worked even the drum sound is great. I'd have prefered more old stuff but I know this is the world magnetic tour. The Best Performance of Lars in those years.

Agreed. However, him improvising over Fade to Black solo in early years, sounds much more melodic and aesthetic than the studio version itself. (i.e Woodstock 1994, Moscow 1991 live shows.) I still think he needs to reduce the amount of improvising he does and spend more time revising and learning his solos due to their genuine individualism. Not referring to solos that have obvious E minor pentatonic scales and patterns in the original versions (i.e Seek and Destroy, etc) Recently, he's been butchering the Halo on Fire outro melodic solo. Sad.

So I'm still at a loss as to why so many posts on so many MET videos about lars not doing enough DBD in the song? Some are mentioning how he "played" it live back in the late 80's. That was then this is now and that's whats makes going to see the great bands live. They never play the song the same over the years!
