Sorry for the SUPER BORING video but I hope this is useful to someone out there! I use port forwarding all the time to play games with my friends but I feel like this concept is not generally well-understood.
This man is a legend! You dont know for how long me and my friend were playing bedrock and we just got bored of it and wanted to play java. Thanks man!!!
If anybody is watching this video and just want Minecraft java multiplayer, Look into the essential mod. Super easy free multiplayer with as many friends as you want and it takes like 3 minutes to download and play. its my go to for minecraft multiplayer
I mean if you just grab a few off the street and keep them in your basement, they’re not necessarily free, but they’re rather cheap since you just gotta pay for the necessities of survival (only if you want said friends to last, however if you keep picking up new friends then you don’t have that issue and you can keep getting new friends for free)
thanks for the vid but, how exactly do ur friends join, do i make a single player world do the open to lan enter the port number…where does that show up for my friends, does it pop up in the multiplayer area then they need to enter that IP or….
If this is during the port forwarding setup, then it's referring to YOUR local IP address. Your router needs to know where to send incoming packets (from your friend).
Yes, anyone joining needs to use your external IPv4 address, then a colon, then the port number that you configured in your router. If you're using the default port of 25565, then the colon and port number can be omitted.
@@lasercraft32 I’m not going to bother listing out all the problems here, but the biggest one is there’s an auto-updater in the mod that you can’t disable, and the code is not open source. In tandem, this means a rogue dev could just update the version of the mod one day to include a virus, and nobody would be the wiser.
@@TTC_Felix You should type the IP directly into the address bar rather than Google. If it doesn't work then you might have the wrong IP address! Are you using the Default Gateway?
I am not sure how the console versions have been designed. Do you still have the option to open to LAN? If so then it should still work, unless some software on the Switch itself blocks the connection.
you can just join a game if the person you're trying to join is both a friend of the account and online. most consoles will require you to pay for online multiplayer though
@@spicierleaf4335 That's a fair question. Port forwarding means that your router will forward traffic on those ports to your PC, which should be fairly harmless. When the server is not running, your PC firewall should block this traffic anyway. In theory, anyone could connect to your world while it's open to LAN, but the likelihood of this happening is very small. This risk can be mitigated by running the standalone server JAR provided by Mojang instead of using the Open to LAN option, and using a server whitelist.
