I would've done the exact same thing. Its so hard to make so many quick decisions when you're under so much pressure! When I was homeless years ago I lived in one of those weekly rental hotels in the Tenderloin in San Francisco. The bathroom was down the hall and the entire place was filled with THE most terrifying people and I was in my early 20s so I didnt even know to be afraid. It scares the CRAP out of me now to look back. You guys are doing it. Keep moving forward.

I have been scammed during stress not nearly as severe as what you were experiencing . Scammers spin you around and skillfully disorient you. Your story is compelling and understandable.

In this area the homeless crisis is so bad. A car someone is living in generally can’t be towed unless the city/whomever can provide shelter for said person.

I almost got scammed on Craigslist by a woman selling a truck. This happened to me just last month. After I got the funds to pay I realized she was scamming me. And I didn’t send her the money. So sorry this happened to you guys. Just like you all I was in a place of desperation, and I ignored all the red flags until the very in and before I sent her the money I did some research and a scammed popped up exactly what was happening to me. And I cut off all communication with her immediately. Again so sorry you all went through this. It’s a horrible feeling. I pray things will turn around for you guys real soon. 🙏🏽😌

There are some with down payments and bad/no credit but they want proof of enough income which we dont have enough of right now. So we are planning to fully pay for the car
I totally understand just the vulnerability of the situation and jumping on the car. I almost did the same thing but my partner stopped me and pushed me to think more on it before buying my last vehicle. She was kind of tough on me about it too. I'm glad I have her to be tough on me at the time because the car I did choose has been the best vehicle I've ever had. Please make sure it's a reliable vehicle. It's such a big investment you deserve a car that will take you over 200k miles. So many vehicles are just crap for reliability so make sure to get a Toyota or a Honda.
Unfortunately, for the price range we are looking at, most cars in that range are already at 200k miles or just about to be.
Oh my gosh I’m so sorry. Totally understand what happened. Don’t beat yourself up because you had no other options at the time. Also, you guys are so mature in not ripping apart the people who scammed you. Clearly those people were in a dire situation as well even though shouldn’t have done that of course. Very unfortunate circumstances all around. Happy it’s at least provided shelter for you both at times when most needed. 💜

I’m so sorry this happened to you guys. It’s perfectly understandable to buy the car when you’re under so much pressure to have a place to sleep. I can easily see myself doing this. No societal vote,nor input,nor logic, nor notification ....just like a weird little circus show. It truly is quite enough to cause anxiety!!! I practice simple life,lack,reuse and repurpose for many reasons...If I was cash flush it would be an honor to buy jes&jay a vehicle %100

It wasn’t blowing white smoke when we test drove it. It was already on and running when we pulled up. The white smoke explosions came when the car started up. Which of course he must have already known, hence why the car was not off when we got there

You two are the sweetest souls. If I had money (am a struggling single mom in northern CA), I would hire you in a heartbeat to help in my home and with my daughter. I am battling Lyme and my daughter is struggling with issues and we have no family or support and cannot find good friends or community for the life of us. You guys would be such a blessing to have as friends. People here where I live are just totally unavailable and have no interest in real connection or friendship. It's every man for himself. For what it's worth, I would help you if I had the resources.

What a lein just means is u have to pay that amount before u can register it....not that u cant ever register it
I'm not spending thousands of dollars to pay off someone elses loan and then thousands more to fix it...doesnt make sense

@@NicOoG-im2yg No, she said I had to pay the lien and go to DMV and fill out the paperwork to get the lien removed off the title, then I can try to register it. However that would only also work if the owner turned in their side of the paperwork which shows they transferred the car to me. They didnt, and they wont ever because they probably never even owned it themselves. The information is correct. I'd have to pay thousands of dollars AND hope that one day they turn in their paperwork

My situation is SO close to what you guys are going through - I put a nice new battery and had a clean SUV and I wanted to keep it to camp in, if nothing else- it was so comfortable, and I was facing losing my apartment _ I let the car go to get it out of the apt parking lot and at least got 100 and they towed it too-

Be careful!! Scam everywhere . Can you guys do post mates Uber eats instacart ?? Grocery delivery 🚚 if you have a car perfect! Also Airbnb guys if you rent anywhere even 3 weeks you get huge discount and all you need is room in beautiful houses. Here there’s rooms for 600-1200 month at Airbnb there’s even a basic furnish room. Inside some1 house. Just something to think about

If he can't legally sell the car how can he keep your money? I live in Florida and it's illegal to sell a car with a lien so there is no way he could keep your money you could even sue him. I don't know how things work in California though they don't seem to protect anyone anymore except criminals. Me personally I would be back at that guys doorstep. It shouldn't matter that you signed anything it's a false document, I mean that alone is a misdemeanor used to be a felony. You can't legally sign a falsified document so it shouldn't matter if you signed it or not. That's one of the reasons I love Florida because stuff like this would never fly. I'm sorry to hear about this and he's a worthless scum bag
DMV said they will open a criminal investigation but can only do so when I legally own the car aka pay all the lien fees and try to get it registered in my name. I’m not going to spend the money to do that just to have a car i now would then legally own but still can’t use. Small claims court wouldn’t go anywhere because they would have to find them first to serve them, so that would be another waste of money.
Was there a walmart near you? Oil change 20 dollars and if you ask them they would put new plugs in. They are real nice about stuff

So I know a bit about making it a place to sleep. I can maybe send you a small portable solor power bank to keep phones charged and charge up fans and lights you can hang in the car. I'm just trying to figure how to make it easier on you both. I have been homeless. As a teen and early 20s. I. Grew up on n the military so going from state to state base to base I'm good at being prepared. I'm good at making the best out of a mistake. I'm just trying to help

Both! Although Jay is mostly unable to work a “ 9-5” job and will be on permanent disability lifelong. However, at this moment shelter has become the main focus because it is extremely hard to work without basic needs being met ( sleep, nutrition, etc)
Ifnyou find someone that works on cars a head gasket kit dont cost much. Plugs arnt expensive you can ask the store like auto zone oriellys. They can set them for you and all you have to do is put them in. Getting it running is what you want to do. Look online they have videos to help guide you thru it. I have had my 2004 Pontiac Montana van for ten yrs, original parts usually have to be fixed. Even if you do it just to get to point a to point b. Its worth putting the money into it
I'm not certain you watched the whole video and understand that it is much more than a blown head gasket. Furthermore, like I said in the video we CANNOT register the car

But if you find a back yard mechanic to fix the things just to get it running and I bought a van in Missouri and traveled with the same temp plate for over a yr. I was married to a mechanic and my dad was a mechanic in the military my entire childhood. Mechanics like to tell ppl the very worst then you find someone who will fix it for case of beer. 😂. Most things you can do yourself. If you want it bad enough
