- In this episode I show you my Fender Supersonic 22. It's a great amp and, in my opinion a great value for you money. maybe it's better than the fabled Deluxe Reverb

I've always liked the Supersonic. It is almost like the amp equivalent of the American Deluxe series of guitars- sort of vintage, but with a touch modern elements
And this drive channel
Is more versatile because it can get modern but it can be subtle
I like how you mentioned that it’s a show as opposed to a channel. Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot
Ive been in LOVE with my Supersonic 60 combo since 2009! Pair it with a 2-12" cab, & its AWESOME! Strats & Tele's sound GREAT through it, as well as a Les Paul.
👌👌
Your tone is impeccable, my brother. Keep up the good work! Respect from Brickwall Jackson. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks a lot
My main amp since 2010, I love it! Great amp!
👌
You’ve really figured out how to get the best with this amp. Thanks for sharing this!
👌
I had no idea these were still being made. I had thought the original Super Sonic 60 had come out in the 90s when Fender came out with all the Custom Shop and Pro Tube amp models, but when I just checked I found out these only came out in 2006.
The Supersonic 60 sounds very different though
Love your playing Budda!!! I owned a SS22 a few years back. The tones are great, but the constant background buzz drove me crazy. I hear it on yours, too. I had to sell mine. Fillmore 50 is better and very similar, IMHO. Rock on, brother!
Great tip. Thanks
Fillmore Butts?
I use a tech 21 trademark 60, that thing is dope, incredible clean sound that actually feel like a valve amp, hyper versatile. Most recommended!!!
It’s a great amp but I can’t get away with the transistor feel. The sound is great
I have a 22 head that I run into a 2x12 fender cab with 2 P12N's. Normal channel with a delay in the effects and a Twimble out front. Single coils or I really like my p90's also . I really appreciate your demonstration because I dont have all the issues some of these guys have. My setup works great
Mine works perfectly too
I have had an SS60 combo for years, and absolutely adore it. It comes with a Vintage 30 too, which I think fits the "burn" channel and the Bassman clean channel really nicely. Also, I can't tell much of a difference in the 22 and the 60 vs the speaker and volume (both are better on the 60).
I feel the 60 is too clean and too sterile for me . It’s a great amp but it’s too loud
@@BuddaGuedes Sterile? How so? And yes, I agree it's far too loud (I only use mine with an attenuator), but that can be useful under certain circumstances. It's my most versatile amp, by far.
I love this amp. I use it with a jhs black box in the effects loop which gets rid of any noise issues.
thanks for sharing
I have a supersonic 22 from back in 2010 or so and it has noise issues. I think the reverb is disabled right now. Throwing a little black box in the effects loop solves that? Because that could be very nice for me lol
@@snagglemonster yes solved the hiss noise completely if you use it like a master volume and allows you to use the reverb amazingly. Doesn't have to be a jhs you can get similar ones
@@44dognutI'll have to try it out. I'd heard of some people putting a noise gate in the effects loop but was curious how the black box/a volume pedal or something would fix it
👌
Excellent video... I'm about to buy one, still hesitating, but your video is very very convincing ! I alternate between a Telecaster, ES 335, Les Paul with P90, the versatility of this amp is very interesting for live gigs
It’s a great choice
Love the sounds you get from all 3 levels. The 22,60 and the 100 but the 22 is very issue ridden as was the first generation 60. Had all 3 and wound up just keeping the SS Twin 100 with an attenuator. To be fair most the non hand wired Fender amp have the similar issues. The good news is a good amp tech can and knows how to fix and improve them. Thanks for demonstrating all your options.
What issues did you have?
Actually I compared the Super Sonic and the Deluxe Reverb side by side some days ago. And yes: The noise floor of the Super Sonic is a tad higher but far from making it a deal breaker.
What i found though was, that the Deluxe‘s cleans were much, much better, more 3-dimensional and way more bouncy, for lack of a better word. Although the Super Sonic sounded ok, it was bland and flat in direct comparison.
I really wanted to like the Super Sonic, because I had the idea, that you could take it more easily and leave the pedal board at home. But I really wasn‘t very happy with the drive channel either, compared to an OCD in front of the Deluxe Reverb. And if you compare the bulky footswitch of the Super Sonic to a regular OD Pedal, you might as well take the DR and an OD pedal and you get the Vibrato on top.
I’ll probably make an episode comparing both side by side. It’s a great idea
The overdrive channel is a dual cascading gain section. It takes some getting used to to learn to control it.- Fenders answer to the Mesa Boogie dual rectifier.
So nearly the perfect amp but the gain structure and some weird impedance issues on the input stage can make it a pig to dial in. The noisy reverb is a major issue too. Try a Boogie Express + .
New amp? Super Sonic 22 came out in 2006, which is 18 years ago. It is known for being noisy and very unreliable. They sound good when they work.
Mine never failed , it’s not noisy and it’s a new amp compared to a 65 deluxe reverb. The 22 watt version only showed up in 2010!!
@@BuddaGuedes I hope it suits you well for years.
My only tube amp. I gon't gig, but go to an occasional blues jam. I really only play rhythm so I don't bother taking the footswitch. Kind of wondered if people usse the footswitch in a gig, or just use a single channel and pedals. Good info all around. Didn't know the effects loop was after the reverb. I have a delay in the loop, but was running my trem into the amp. I'll try moving it.
👌
Now here's an episode I've been waiting for a long time. I love this amp and was very curious to know your opinion about it. I also think it's a very versatile amp, the proof was the moment of the metal riff :) followed by a clean tone. The fact that it has an fx loop is spectacular (I didn't know it was after the reverb) and solves the problem of not having a tremolo, I also really enjoyed hearing your opinion about the to gains on channel 2. Was this amp that you used last year in Braga Blues for Big Daddy Wilson? I remember they have played the show with a supersonic 22.
Cheers Budda.
This was the amp Big Daddy Wilson’s guitar player used last year
Sounds good. But what kind of stuff is inside? How long will that stuff last? I predict, not the decades an original Deluxe Reverb will last.
My deluxe reverb has a job working reverb already!!
I’m not sure if it’s still the same, but the supersonics come from the factory biased pretty low for reliability and longevity. Making the bias hotter improves the tone.
I like how mine is setup
Why would fender make an amp sound bad for reliability? Think about it. Motivation to do that is what?
@@BeefNEggs057 it’s not that it sounds bad, it just sounds better when the tubes are biased hotter.
First ‘proper’ amp I bought was the SS22. Head and 2x12 cab.
Plenty have come and gone, but it will never leave.
Great amp!
Great review. Thank you 🤙🏼
👌
Fantastic amp ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love mine
👌
after the dr this would be the fender amp i would go for
👌
What do you think of the Fender supersonic compared to the Mesa Lonestar?
The Lonestar is a super high level amp. I prefere the Lonestar, specifically the Lonestar Special
Can you get both clean and great drive tones at bedroom volume or do you need a atenuater?
This is not a bedroom amp . The clean only sounds ok a little loud
I wish I hadn’t sold mine.
Eh! Eh!
I've been thinking about swapping my SC20C for one of these for a while and this just didn't make that choice any easier
Ehh Eh! Different beasts
Had the 22 combo, its long gone…Prefer the DR
I have both and like it both.
I wonder why Bruce Zinky left Fender inc.? If you look at Fender inc. lack in build quality which is terrible, I would leave and build my own amps. Maybe you should dig a litter deeper and find out what techs are seeing in Fenders landfill garbage.
My job is not to terminate brands. I love the sound of it and it has never let me down… so I only have good things to say about it
Yes.
👌
