A buddy and I around 2010 worked for a guy who sold used cars, he was in love with late 90's legacy's. Needless to say we ended up rebuilding 6 2.2l non-turbo legacy's. It was a crash course in boxer engines. I have to agree these boxers are actually quite easy to rebuild and install. at that point I had no engine skills other than oil changes and accessory replacements. Its one of the reasons I watch your show (even though I am a Jeep guy now). It reminds me of my time with these engines. Looking back we could've been way more efficient but Chiltons walked us through everything on that first engine from there it was smooth sailing on the other rebuilds. Such fun times.
Oh ya almost forgot, we also built 2 3 cylinders from a 4x4 Justy and a FWD Justy. The FWD Justy ended up going to the crusher though it was super rough so we made 2 into 1 good one.

Love it. I will say my favorite STi will always be the Alfa Romeo designers model aka the Hawkeye. I bought a 350Z Nismo when those were released and still regret not buying a new Hawkeye to this day.

I have a 986 with a M96 3.6 911 motor and of course my Subaru Ascent. I’m really aiming to get a 964 or newer turbo. I just love the sound of the boxer motor.

These are my favorite engines to work on! Super straight forward and super easy to time. Chain engines aren’t too bad. But the 3.0 engines suck lol. Iykyk, I will never understand why they used Allen bolts for the timing cover on the 3.0’s, they always strip and snap off lol.
I think one thing that doesn’t get mentioned enough is to NOT USE THE BLUE KEVLAR RACE BELTS ON STREET CARS. They wear out super fast and are completely unnecessary on street cars. It looks really nice and sounds cool to run a Kevlar race belt but it is only negatives
I want one build before you hit 1 mil that is an EJ205 stroker. I think that is the only engine you haven't built to the moon. lots of us out here with that engine and it gets no love,

Isn't the timing marks there being 1/2 tooth off have to do with the heads being resurfaced? Since that brings the 2 heads closer to each other causing the markings to get slightly out of alignment.
quick question, how do you keep all of your bolts organized? when i take things apart i loose my bolts/nuts much to often and was looking for a more efficient way to avoid this could you help me out?😂
I don't 😅 I throw them all into 1 box and grab them as I need them. I've done it enough times that I know where they all go. But a bolt organizer is a good solution to keep track of where they all go 🫡
Hi. I love the channel!! But I have been having a stalling problem with my 2011 wrx. It had a hks bov when I got the car but about a week ago I did a pull and it stalled completely died going about 30. Now every time I come to a stop it dies. I had just got a bypass valve today and got rid of the hks bov because I had seen some videos of yours and thought it would be best to have a healthy motor rather than a cool sounding one. After installing the oem part it still does this. I daily the car and would love to get into contact with you and maybe hear what you have to say it would help a lot just because I daily the car and im new to the Subaru seen im coming over from a turbo b18b1 ef hatch. Question, I have a Gen 4 Subaru Liberty GT, doing a engine rebuild, I contacted Cobb and apparently their access port isn't supported in Australia, is there any other way I can go about getting it tuned without spending $3,500 AUD on a Haltech ECU? I'm currently doing reliability mods, but also thinking about going a larger turbo, FMC, new exhaust from engine all the way back, new injectors and rails, so I'll obviously need a tune. Any advice? Cheers.

Curious why you didn't split the cases and put in new bearings and rings?
At that point I'd have to send the engine out to the machine shop. I won't replace rings without a proper rehone.

They're cheap and easily accessible, they filter out what's needed. If an engine is on its way out a filter won't save it from certain death
The new OEM ones are made in the USA now.

You'll still have codes, tuning I belive may be okay but you'll have cold start roughness
