Grasping the Pope’s International Position with Fr. Albert Evrard, S.J/.

  • A former lawyer at the Brussels bar, Albert Evrard studied law, criminology, political science (Belgium, Italy) and theology (France, Canada), focusing on the condition of the older person. In addition to a theoretical approach to the issues and as a member of the Jesuit Order, he regularly works in a service capacity in residential and nursing homes (Jerusalem, Manitoba, France, Belgium). He was a visiting scholar at Robson Hall, University of Manitoba from 2019-2021, where he shared time between research in the legal field and lecturing at St.Paul's College.
    Since November 2021, Fr. Albert has held a position of Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University of Toulouse (Institut Catholique de Toulouse) where he is pursuing research into the rights and freedoms of the aged.
    In addition, for the past 3 years, on behalf of the Holy See's Representation at the United Nations, he is taking part in the work of the Open Ended Working Group on Ageing, which is examining the need for and possibility of drafting an international convention on the rights and freedoms of the older people.
