Maple Leaf Gardens went from a 16000 seat hockey arena to a massive high end grocery store, a massive atheletic complex with gyms, classrooms and weight room and then a 3500 seat hockey arena on top...still same four walls
And it was done by Tony George, who ran the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the time in 1997. It was named the 16th Street Raceway, which was an homage to the raceway close to IMS in the 40s and 50s.
Not quite a sports venue but the old Fiat factory with the race track on the roof is now a mall with an art gallery using the roof track for outdoor pieces.
The facades of the two main stands at Arsenal's old Highbury Stadium were 'listed' by the government which means that they were given protection against demolition for having historical or architectural significance. In this case as early and classic examples of Art Deco buildings. So the developers had to incorporate the facades in a way that that would preserve them and highlight their original purpose. And also not face the rage of many tens of thousands of disgruntled Gooners if they effed it up. All castles, palaces, mansions, Roman ruins and many, many just very old buildings and houses of which we have a f**king lot, have 'listed' status of varying degrees to protect them from the ravages of unscrupulous development.
Honorable mention: Baltimore Memorial Stadium, which is now a massive housing & athletic complex while retaining the original field dimensions in the center
Ooh I saw the one about the apartments yesterday. I don't know that I'd live there but it's a brilliant concept! Edit: Holy fuck the Robert Kraft joke 😂😂😂
I know the Osaka one wasn't really a neighbourhood but if I had to live in a city I'd choose to live in a stadium! My wife might not like it but I would love that. Your commentary/jokes are getting pretty funny.
Another example is the Florida Gym which was the original basketball arena for the University of Florida. Today, the building has been converted into classrooms and lecture halls
North Americans struggle with names like that. Worcestershire well any county that ends in "shire" really for example. Unless a guy has heard it pronounced they don't stand a chance lol.
I suppose that the Grand Prairie Stadium conversion from baseball to cricket isn't the sort of "conversion" you mean, since it still has a sporting use?
I really hope that former Bull Fighting ring has a McDonald's. An $18 Big Mac is only worth it if you're eating the great great grand daughter of the bulls who died there.

Fun fact about Bush Stadium was also briefly converted into dirt racing track, known as 16th street speedway, for a brief time.

Came here to say this, fond memories of watching both baseball and racing at Bush with my Pops.
That wasn't fun.
I'm surprised you didn't have the Pyramid in Memphis being converted into a massive Bass Pro Shop on here!
Maybe they can refurbish FedEx Field into the world’s largest vacuum cleaner.
If they do, it'll malfunction and start blowing, instead of sucking.😂

I believe every stadium should be remade to something that would benefit humanity in some way.
Like lots and lots of housing. That's basically the only politically workable solution to the housing crisis.
@@TheNewChevyRoll48 I'd like to see you try and move people into FedEx Field. Raw sewage tends to be a no-no for residential zoning committees.
holy soy

Highbury never seated 70,000 people. They were almost all standing, packed in like sardines
I wonder what Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadium could be converted into if both the Royals and Chiefs leave Truman Sports Complex

Eight Men Out was filmed at Bush Stadium in Indy.
Just found your stadium Chanel and I’m in love lol
That was a cool and unique stadium video.
YOU FORGOT THEY TURNED BuSCH STADIUM IN INDY INTO 16TH STREET SPEEDWAY FOR SPRINT CARS
It's High-brrr-y not Highberry, Adam. But yes the Highbury Condos are cool.

Robert Kraft was accused of frequenting a massage parlour aka a rub n tug.
We don't want to have to explain that joke in polite company...😃
