~COME SPEND A WHILE WI' ME~
Written by Lionel McClelland
Dae ye see yon mountains rise
'Neath the vast eternal skies
An' the world turns roun’ an' the sun gans doon
Afore your very eyes
An' the clock will no' turn back
So come on we'll hae the craic
Aye we'll hae oor fun, e'er this nicht is done
Come spend a while wi me.
Chorus:
Come spend a while wi’ me
For your ay’ guid company
Aye an’ wha kens when we’ll meet again ~wha kens(who knows)
An’ wha kens whaur we’ll be.
We’ll lift oor hearts an’ sing,
While the pipes an’ fiddles ring
And we’ll raise oor heels, tae the jigs an’ reels
Come spend a while wi’ me.
Well Davie’s songs were braw,
Aye an’ Davie’s craic an’ a’
But there’s mony have gone as the years roll on
An’ Davie’s noo awa’
An’ the circle never ends
So we’ll drink tae absent friends,
Aye we’ll raise a glass, tae them that’s passed
Come spend a while wi’ me
Come spend a while wi’ me
For your ay’ guid company
Aye an’ wha kens when we’ll meet again
An’ wha kens whaur we’ll be.
We’ll lift oor hearts an’ sing,
While the pipes an’ fiddles ring
And we’ll lift oor heels, tae the jigs an’ reels
Come spend a while wi’ me.
We work and eat and sleep
Just tae earn oor meager keep
And the stress and strife o’ oor daily life,
Is the harvest that we reap.
But ye ainlie git yin chance,
So come on and join the dance
Come forget your woe, let the music flow
And spend a while wi’ me.
Come spend a while wi’ me
For your ay’ guid company
Aye an’ wha kens when we’ll meet again
An’ wha kens whaur we’ll be.
We’ll lift oor hearts an’ sing,
While the pipes an’ fiddles ring
And we’ll lift oor heels, tae the jigs an’ reels
Come spend a while wi’ me.

Just came across your upload. Lionel is sairly missed. So many songs left unwritten. Lionel had begun this album just before he died. Gregor Lowrey and I were honoured to finish it for him, with a little help from his friends. This was the last song Lionel wrote and it’s heartening to see so many young folk have taken it to their hearts, and I believe it’s a popular choice at sessions. Incidentally, Lionel’s friend (and my partner) Steve Niblick, took all those great photos of Lionel,.
So very glad Kristen, that everyone stepped in and saw the project through. Lionel obviously had a great cadre of friends who cared. It's was a wonderful effort, for a very talented & obviously well loved man. Thanks very much for the backstory.
Slàinte,
Antonaidh
Kirsten, Lionel was god sent was with him the night before he saddly passed away great fun and craic as ever sadly missed, first met him Chris and Gregor gone 30 years ago up when i was working at Clachaig Inn. just found this amazing clip. thanks so much. I have a Very Scottish lawyer friend retiring soon and I am going to find a way to play this for him in court. So beautiful. Might need to find a flautist, I can do the guitar.
Anyone sees this in Victoria BC and you can play flute let me know
Nice! I am quite certain he will appreciate the gesture.
Tell me, has your friend retired yet? If so, how did it go with the musical send off?

High Paul, pretty sure it was the late, Davy Steele. Another fantastic, Scottish Folk singer, gone too soon. Check out the links below. Just stunning.

Anthony Xavier thanks for that ,,,,,I wish I had met him seems to be a fine human being ,,,,,,,we will all miss his easy going style of singing,,,,,,,davie Steele had the very same easy going style that is sadly missed today ,,,,,,,,saying that there is a super abundance of lady singers now ,,,,we are definetly looked after by the gentler sex ,,,,,,,since davie and himself died we sadly miss this type of singer ,,,,all the best ,,,
