    Back in the day, my dad and I flew everywhere in his 1976 Lance N6512F....with an almost identical paint scheme. Very different avionics though.
    We hauled washer machine parts from Tennessee to Ohio on a regular basis. Thank you for featuring this wonderful work horse of a single engine airplane on your channel. Brought back great memories of my flights with the most skilled and safe pilot I’ve ever flown with...my dad.

    The point of the "Hershey Bar" wing is economy of manufacture. All the wing ribs were the same profile reducing cost.

    I flew some flights for funeral homes in a 300 Six. You take out the middle and aft seats. They were on gurneys in bags not in coffins. It was a very good vehicle for that job.

      People don't wanna wear a mask for hours in the airport so they fly private. Same reason I'm buying a plane now. Plus the threats of vaccine id to travel and all that nonsense. Just not worth the hassle. Then there are those that are scared of getting sick crammed on a plane. Easy to see why prices are jumping

    One thing, if you stand about 10 feet in front of the Cherokee 6 and the Lance...(stand centered on the longitudinal axis, you'll notice a slight cant to the engine to the right). I believe this is to offset some of the p-factor effect in longer airplanes.....with larger props.....just an interesting fact.

    Legit question: why would someone today want to endeavor into a new kit plane (say, your very own sling tsi) while you can already get such amazing tried and tested options like this baby with better comfort, power, range and carrying capacity? (+ even similar or lower cost of ownership, since usually insurance is a lot less on these compared to experimentals)
    Is there anything really to be fearful about old airplaines vs the option own new?

    • @NerdmouseSux
      @NerdmouseSux 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because with planes, all major repairs have to be done by an A&P mechanic. There's also the annual inspection which needs to be done by an AI (Aircraft Inspector) and those can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars EVERY year.
      If you build a kit plane, then YOU are the manufacturer and are able to do all that work and those inspections for yourself instead of having to pay a ton of money each year for someone else to do them.

    • @TheLiasas
      @TheLiasas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NerdmouseSux k so a kit plane also allow you yo save on the actual cost of ownership... But only so long you're willing to invest you yourself onto those maintenance things... Now another question: what if I'm not interested in performing such duties myself?
      like, I'd love to own the plane and fly it, but I sure as hell ain't a mechanic I would trust with my live, so I would definitely get a pro to work on it for inspections and maintenance...
      Considering that, a new experimental now comes closer to certified used, or is there still a big gap somewhere?

    • @HECTORFARRA
      @HECTORFARRA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spare parts. Some of these planes haven't been produced in decades (although Piper and Cessna had a decent stock of parts and some of them are interchangeable between models). But other than that, you should be good with old planes.

    I would guess that the forward baggage compartment is there to provide some forward CG (center of gravity), you certainly don't want any fat passengers in those rear seats, more like kids, preferably little ones. I'll bet the pilot's manual has a big chapter on CG calculations.

    It's an interesting configuration, seat count a bit like a private jet yet not yet the bus with an aisle config where stuff gets really heavy. But we need new designs, not this old anvil tractor stuff. Other than a lighter composite body with reclined bucket shell seats with room for legs by the side and maybe only a single forward pilot position and fly by wire joystick on the wall for the first passenger seat, to make better use of the space. And where it will really matter is two small feather light turbofan jets at the rear instead of the awful lump up front will make it such a capable aircraft. Pressurized will be necessary to take proper advantage. I figure such a craft done well could weigh less than 500kg empty. Much less than half of a Piper Lance. Imagine how much nicer a bird can fly if you ditch 3 pianos (say 200kg a piece). It matters. I wouldn't be surprised if you could ditch 4 pianos from a Piper Lance. Try picking up a piano some time. It's heavy.
