Specchio veneziano or the Venetian mirror - this programme compares and contrasts two composers from the city of the Doges: on the one hand the celebrated Vivaldi, on the other a virtual unknown, Giovanni Battista Reali, who was born there in 1681, three years after Vivaldi, and died in 1751, ten years after his illustrious colleague. A violinist himself, he composed trio sonatas, including a very spectacular Folia, which Théotime Langlois de Swarte, Sophie de Bardonnèche, Hanna Salzenstein and Justin Taylor juxtapose with Vivaldi’s Folia, alongside other highly virtuosic pieces, many of them complete rediscoveries, since half of this programme has never been recorded before.

Awesome! Exceptional! It felt like a single instrument playing, or a single soul, how much they are in sync. And the lovely sound of baroque violins without that heavy vibrato is so refreshing, this also contributes to the feeling of unity. This is so much promising for the future!

Magnifique ! La jeunesse n'exclut pas le talent ! Leur disque "Specchio Veneziano" qui contient notamment cette Folia de Reali (et d'autres morceaux de ce compositeur contemporain de Vivaldi, comme de ce dernier) est tout simplement sublime ! Une vraie découverte, et il me tarde de voir Le Consort en concert.

Wonderful listen. Terrible watch. All the panning cameras and constant intercutting makes me seasick.
Terrible videography. We can’t see them playing a whole theme in one shot. Too many switching of angles every ten seconds😅!
And funny when the camera makes a close-up on a cello when it is actually the other that plays the variation. I agree but, sadly... we often see worse !
