      I recently re-watched the planet series and was wondering when the earth is coming out. I can honestly say:
      I am currently subscribed to 143 channels and this is my favorite one.

    I find it simply incredible how our quarrels and matters appear to be impressively big when we consider our own lives, but also how they prove to be so small and insignificant when we take a look at how complex our planet is.

    • @guillermolledowolkowicz7085
      @guillermolledowolkowicz7085 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Without looking at the planet, just looking at how complex the human body is, all this faithful meat saving our life, no matter what food or drugs we feed it with. How much does some depressive thoughts, or even our whole mind, weight in comparison?

      I have a different vision. We fight and we die for our purpose and our land, despite being so small in the grand scheme of things. We fight while being humble of how small we are.

      Each decade billions of people added to the population. Connected more now than ever through the Internet. If we continue this way the world will be one giant metropolis with a lot of extremes in the class gap. Sending some to Mars ain't such a bad idea.

    • @imarchello
      @imarchello 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colonize Mars!

    • @emmiannon1266
      @emmiannon1266 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@heisenburg8608 Only that we cant get individuals there yet, let alone billions, theres no usable atmosphere, bad gravity, no megnetasphere, the tech to create and atmosphere or magnetasphere not existing in any form yet and unlikley to for a long time, not enough sunlight, the dust would be very harmful for our lungs, and there would be no way to help them in an emergency.
      Mars isnt another earthly landmass, this isnt like the colonisations of old where we occupied habitable areas, most of which already populated, this is a different beast all together with so many obsticles in the way that it is pretty much impossible with our current tech and will continue to be for decades if not centuries to come.
      So yes, we have no other planet to go to, we need to keep earth alive and well as it will be the only home for humanity for a very very long time yet.

    It's crazy how many people take the spectacle of life for granted or the simple wonders of staring out an open window, let alone recordings of Earth from space. How these wonders form faiths and ideologies that allow us to be divided and distracted with one another. It is easy to see how petty our squabbles are when compared to the sheer scale of space and time. I love how Astronomy comes full circle eventually and gives the enthusiast the opportunity to truly appreciate our home world.

    Your best video, yet... and rightly so. How can we respect more thankfully our home planet? This is an important question? We are so tiny and seemingly could have any impact on such an amazing and powerful "natural" process.... how can we give back to the process (life supporting force) that we so enjoy? 😇🇺🇸

    I have been studying all of the most interesting/most important moons in our solar system. Without even thinking about the incomprehensible vastness of the universe, that is to say, merely looking within our own solar system, one begins to understand that there is a mind-boggling amount of real estate out there which is not only uninhabitable, but outright hostile to life as we know it. That everything aligned such that we have this lovely planet on which to live....brimming with life....and that many people don't care enough to protect it....is both awe-inspiring and frightening. We live in especially wonderful and unique and rare circumstances. I wish more people took the time to understand that. Thank you for your educational efforts, Mr. McColgan.

    Thanks Alex, your videos hit the sweet-spot with just enough depth of science, yet do not scare away the casual but interested layman. Your calm and relaxed vocal delivery beats the far too common 'Oh my God!' far too excited delivery of most American professional productions. I sincerely congratulate you, I find your videos enthralling, and always answer questions that have come to me over the years. You remind me of the great David Attenborough, whose delivery is above compare in his field. With your meticulous research, and understanding of your subject, I hope you might find yourself walking in David's footsteps on a professional level, but in the Astronomy field. So few people seem to notice that we have an amazing Star just a short distance away from our planet, to which all life owes its existence. Many thanks for your hard work on each and every production you make, and please continue to inform me...I can't think of another YT
    channel as succinct as yours on this subject :)

    Seriously -- wonderful film you put together! One thing about the moon and life on our planet: it has a stabilizing effect on Earth's rotation. Without it, the Earth would be more prone to wobble over time on its axis producing an unfriendly polar climate anywhere that would damage evolutionary pace. Even though some species could adapt, most would certainly suffer from being plunged into an unscheduled ice-age from time to time.

    I don't think anywhere else can be as perfectly welcoming. We came out of this planet, and therefore this flavour of life will only be perfectly suited to this planet; unless of course there exists another planet that has had the same life as our Earth. But perhaps given the size of the universe, there may be literally any given number of Earth twins out there...

However, I do love life and I can't stop fucking pushing myself, because I love everything about this planet and all humans, no matter who you are. Fuck the past, fuck depression, I want to fullfill my dreams and make earth a wonderfull place. I'm happy to be in this fucked up, yet beatifull world, that actually makes life possible and all unique features life wonderfull and interesting. I just wish to be on a mountain and stargaze all day and travel arround the world and see different people, cultures, landscapes and more.

      Keep going! Whatever you achieve in life, I believe what's most important is how you deal with the lot you are given - and having to deal with depression is a pretty tough lot. At the end of the day, you can't do more than your best, and that's all that can be expected of yourself. It's not about the destination, it's about going to the right direction - even if it is sometimes two steps forward and one step back. Good luck!

    I've been seeing that lava clip at 12:34 for decades, in documentaries and even movies. Do you know where it comes from and where it was taken?

      Probably because it's a royalty free clip! But I don't know what eruption it was sadly.

    I've noticed that I wait for your videos as if they are the next episodes of a fascinating TV series. Something in par with GOT!
