I've been debating between the EX and Sport. I'm leaning EX. The Sport looks sick but wheels and a body kit are easy to add to an EX. The EX's moonroof, push-button start, better head unit are much more difficult to add. Not to mention that you can use regular vs premium.
Only reason to get sport is for the manual

u never mentioned that the sport touring is not available with a manual transmission - a very important piece of information to miss out
the Sport has more HP only if you use premium Gas, its computer adjusts the timing when it determines that you are using a higher octane gas

One custom part you missed was how there are sporty rims available on only certain models. 😉 great video much help. Trying to save up for Honda Hatch Touring. Love the lights. Do they come with leather seats as well? Hope there's a 2019/2020 model because Rd gunna be a while for me lol.
haha, yea there are a few other things I didn't mention, I included links to all of the details in case you wanted to look them over from Honda, and yes, the touring DOES come with leather, it's fully loaded. there will for sure be 2019 and 2020 models, rumor has it this hatch will be around until 2022 or 2023
FlyinGato thanks for replying! I think you did a great job, I personally like the sporty rims they are 19"? Something nice I can't remember. That's fun though so that means I can get a brand new one when I have the money instead of buying certified used or something. Thanks man!!

I was just going to aim for the standard 1.5 Sport trim when I look to get one in a couple of years, my 8th gen Civic still has a good couple of years left in it! Mainly going for the Sport as I want the 1.5 engine rather than the 1.0.
Could have sworn all trims shared the same engine... hmm!
+kurohyou69 in Europe they have the 1.0t, the 1.5t, and will soon have a diesel option. The US only gets 1.5t and 2.0 NA in the non hatch lx models
FlyinGato Yep, UK resident here! 1.0 Turbo doesn't sound bad at 129 BHP but 129 vs 182 (some people seem to think it may be pushing a higher figure than this) makes the choice oh so easy. Current Civic has around 140 BHP (seem to recall 138 officially) so it'll give me nice little increase over my current car.

the 2018 I believe has all the same features and pippyness of the Sport models. I have a LX and didnt notice any difference during the test drive on the same twisty road I drive almost every day between the two. Also, to my understanding, the Sport is heavier than the LX? The only diff between the 2018 LX and Sport was the bottom lips, bigger wheels, exposed exhaust(which sounds better than the LX and only adds 5 HP from the sport trim. and the lane assist and crash avoidance assist. Either way, exact same car. Also the 2018's have the same amount of HP -5HP for the LX.
IMO if you plan on modding your Hatchback, save some money and get the LX. its the same exact car, same engine, same tubo, just different trim. BTW only old people buy the EX and Sport Touring trims. No Joke. Who is dumb enough to pay +$6k for leather seats and a way heavier car?
Hatchback are sexy. But which one comes in manual? I was debating on civic or Subaru wrx but it seems like civic are more reliable.
Now I’m debating on the SI or the hatchback.
EX all day! Sport trims are gimmicks and you lose a lot. Plus, i can't afford premium gas.
The car doesn't require premium...just recommended.

LX has no fog lights. Of course, only Sport and LX available with 6MT.
I went with the LX, partly for availability reasons, but I don't track (highway is close enough though). Also, central exhaust on Sport gets in the way of any hitch/bike rack you might want to use.
And don't forget,you can always tune, replace the head unit, customize Honda's pretty easily.
For me, "Honda" "hatchback" "6MT" "turbo" was enough.
The Sport Touring is also available as a 6MT... in Canada...

I've been looking for the Honda Civic Sport Hatch with manual since March! I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area (8 million people) and I only found one Sport Hatch and 2 LX Hatch's but all 3 had CVT. My dealer told me to just get an Si, but I only like the hatchback with manual and don't care for the Coupe or Sedan. He told me they were all basically the same. I had to remind him that the Sport Hatch is 4 inches shorter and had 18" tires. I haven't been able to locate a Sport Hatch manual in the entire state of Texas since March. Now I'm not sure what to do. Get an Si? (don't like the styling and it's overkill for my needs but my dealer has TEN of them!) or maybe get the new 2018 Honda Fit Sport (which my dealer has). They're nice but almost the same price as a basic Civic and doesn't have a turbo engine (Plus the mpg is actually lower than the Civics). Or should I just wait for the new 2018 Sport Hatch manuals to come out (if they ever do)? The 2018 Fit has gone back to a volume control knob - maybe the rest of the 2018 Honda's will too.
Hey Jimmy, couple of things to start - 2018 Civic hatches will be staying exactly the same as the 2017 hatches. The Si and the hatch sport are similar, but the Si has slightly more sporting features, principle of which is the adjustable suspension. Here are a few questions for you, to help your search - do you want something sporty, that will be kind of fast/fun and ultimately moddable? OR, do you value space above all? OR, do you want a mix of both. If you want the sportiest option for the price, get the Si, if you want the one with the most usable space (flat floor, etc...) get the Fit (it's a bit slow). If you want the mix of both space and sport, get the hatch Sport manual. Don't settle for less if you really want both. Follow my advice in the video I made (th-cam.com/video/hHH5zcxoBv0/w-d-xo.html), call a bunch of dealers all around you, starting with the closest, going as far out as you're willing to go, look at cars.com or autotrader, and then see who's willing to make a deal.
jimmydaves get a 2018 Honda Hatch almost never get first generations. Even comebacks. Just my helpful opinion.
Hey FlyinGato. Really good advice that you give. I have a 2002 Ford Focus 2-door Hatchback manual. I bought it brand new and it's been a great car for me. I can't believe it's lasted me almost 16 years. Back when I bought it, all it came with was AM/FM and a CD player. These days, there are so many things on the new cars that I've never heard of and I don't honestly think or know that I would need or use most of them. Therefore, what I'm looking for in a new car is reliability, hatchback, manual, excellent mpg, good handling and simplicity. I've look at the new Ford Focus for a couple of years now, but dealers simply don't carry them in manual anymore and their A/T's have a bad reputation. The Honda Civic seems to hit all the right buttons for me at this time. I personally think the Si is just plain overkill for me (plus no hatch). But I've read and seen nothing but positive reviews on TH-cam and read professional car reviews that all recommend the Civic, especially the Sport Hatch. And all of the current owners of the Sport Hatch love them or like you, if they get the Si or Type R, still have very positive comments about the Sport Hatch. I'm going to keep looking for one, but I noticed that one of your subscribers has already ordered the 2018 Sport Hatch from their dealer. I might just do that as well.
Dude! I feel you. I live in Central Texas (Just north of Austin) and it is the SAME here. Like the only manual vehicles ever on a Honda lot are Civic LX or Civic SI. I have one local dealer with 8 Civic SI's just sitting, but 0 of the blue ones...lol. At this point I am just going to wait for 2019. It just sucks, being a manual transmission lover, and our options are just getting smaller and smaller :(
@@jimmydaves Dont get the Civic Hatchback then. These cars have a 1.5L TURBO engine. If you want something that will last another 16 years with Zero issues, get a non Turbo Civic, like the sedans. Even the new Si's come with turbos now, unlike their old ones with non turbo. Also these civics have Direct Injection which needs to be professionally cleaned at a shop every 30k miles or else MPG and performance suffers until cleaned.
What about transmissions and the SI? Is the Sport Touring 6MT avail in the US yet? We have one and love it.
not yet in the US, only the LX, sport Si and Type R models come with a manual unfortunately.
I mean, if the piping is bigger on the sport vs the lx and they’re both turbo’d technically the car with the better tune will be faster.

Correction: The difference in height between Sport and EX is .2 of inch (~.25") not 2 inches and must be related to the wheel + Tire Size Combination. Regarding the Steering Wheel de difference is .11.
you're 100% correct. The cars do feel different when you drive them back to back, the Sport manual is the best model hatch to get!
FlyinGato Hmm. When you have to drive around a total of 120 miles a day, to work and back, it could be a little bit tedious, especially in roads with a lot of lights, however in other circumstances manual is enjoyable...🤙🏻

The Canadian version of the sport civic hatchback is basically the same as the touring the only difference literally is the leather and rear heated seats . I find it weird how in America there isn’t a touch screen and android/apple car play and the back with the Honda sensing..
For the lx can you put the center exhaust or nah?

Honestly? I don't think so, after driving the Type R today, I'm addicted! The Type R is AWESOME. It's more "tense" than the hatch sport or the Si. However, if all I had was one car, I would actually love a hatch Si, it would be more comfortable than the type R, better on gas, cheaper on maint and gives me room (and money) to modify the car to my liking. As it is, the Type R needs very few mods.
What does the S on the LX model mean on the stick shift?

First of all if you're buying a Sport Hatch I'd strongly recommend spending the extra couple of thousand and getting the Si sedan. It's not as utilitarian as the hatchback but it's plenty capable of carrying large items especially with the rear seats folded. I couldn't help hearing you complain about the fragile clutch in an earlier video. That's because this car wasn't designed for the track. If you're going to drive like Racer X, expect to be replacing the clutch very early in the car's life. Even with a racing clutch you're still likely to burn it out but at least it's designed for that kind of abuse. If I was looking at the hatchback I definitely would go with the EX. That fact that Honda offers the Sport Touring at a much steeper price than the Si makes absolutely no sense. Honda should offer that six speed manual across the entire line though.
Yea the Si is set up more to be a driver's car, the sport hatch is more of a good looking commuter car. The thing with the hatch is that it's just so useful! I think with the right mods, you can really get the hatch close to Si level of performance.
In fact, there's a very substantial difference in equipment between the Si and the Sport Touring Hatch, justifying the difference in price.

yes, the EX rides a bit softer due to having more sidewall on the tire as well as slightly more suspension travel

Wouldn’t choose any of the Civic trims. Would choose the Toyota Corolla Hatch in a 6 M/T XSE trim. Honda claims 180hp in the Civic; but that only happens using 93Oct. Where is anyone getting that Octane at the pump? The Corolla Hatch is 168hp in N/A motor and with just 87Oct. The Toyota won’t heat soak either 😁

if you look at the official specs, the Sport and Sport Touring are .2 inches lower, the steering racks are different (sport has a more precise rack), 18 inch rims vs 16 inch, and different exhaust.
