    Dear g
If density decrease the speed increase
Then how we say speed is greater in solid is greater than the speed in liquid
We know desity of solid is greater of solid is greater than liquid

@@mkhanstar9552 it has to do with the mediumds elastic properties. These properties usually increase with higher density, but the increase in the elastic properties is much greater than the increase in density, so the total sum equals a bigger velocity

correction:- density of humid air is less as compared to density of dry air
as density is inversely proportional to velocity of sound therefore speed of sound increase if humidity increase!!!!

That point in the video is wrong, density decreases as temperature increases-accepted
But we cannot State that speed of sound depends only upon the density, (inversely proportional to density)
We have to consider the temperature along with it, if we keep the temperature constant, the density is directly proportional to the speed of sound :)

you have left one more important factor affecting velocity of sound...that is pressure...
velocity of sound is not affected by change in pressure so long as temperature remains constant.
    on diff temp pressure matters

guys don't compare the factor density and humidity with temperature.... for temp key factor is kinetic energy other factors affect that very least... so elasticity and k.E overcome that ....and besides that density and temperature have different relation and even all these have different variation with water gas and solids see that in class 11th physics

It depends on the elasticity and the rigidity of matter . the elasticity of the medium depend on the temperature , though . but while keeping the temperature constant . speed of sound depends of the √Elasticity/√density.

Good question ! The thing is, he didn't talk about an important factor that affects the speed of sound between fluids and solids. He did not mention the Elasticity of the material! Sound in solids, because they are very dense, travels faster than in a denser gas, because in solids the elasticity of the medium is much greater than in gases. In gases, another factor also comes into play that makes it lose speed much more than in solids, compressibility. There is no compressibility in solids and liquids and therefore the elasticity is much greater in these media, that even a denser Air, due to its variable compressibility, delays the shock and the faster advance of the molecules of that Ar (lower propagation velocity)... Because of this compressibility in gases, affected by relative temperature, sound takes much longer to travel in this medium. That's why sound travels much faster in solids than in denser gas.

If speed of sound is constant (344m/s) then why do we calculate speed of sound for different wavelengths, with the formula ... speed of sound = frequency x wavelength. Because there are numericals given in kid's textbook to find out speed of sound with the given frequency and wavelength. Some websites on Google says speed of sound is uniform (344 m/s) and does not depend on frequency or wavelength, when the opposite is clearly given in the formula. Please explain.

That's why sound travels much faster in solids than in denser gas.

ok sir but you mean to say if density of medium increases the speed of sound decreases but if we compare the density of water and air then according to you in air the speed of sound will be fast but in really it doesn't happend

    • @feliwx4087
      @feliwx4087 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You are actually right . but speed of sound doesn't depend on the density , but it depends on the elasticity and the rigidity of the matter . speed of sound is directly proportional to the elasticity of the medium , air has more elasticity . thus speed of sound is faster in air . if the solids are elastic speed of sound in them would be the fastest .

Formula for velocity of sound is √(Elasticity/Density) given by Newton.
So for solids if Density is double then liquids or gases, Elasticity is almost four times. Hence Elasticity is dominating factor here hence overall velocity increases according to the formula.

Not understand well the concept of density
As temp. Increases so density decreases and you tell velocity of sound increases ,, but before u tell that due to more no. Of molecules speed of sound travels faster but due to decrease in density moleculer distance is greater than previous so if molecules are at more distance than speed of sound has to be ddecrease.

    I cant understand this.
You just said that when there is humidity there is more number of molecules so speed of sound increases
But in the same way when density is more the molecule are more closed so speed should increase and at low density speed should decrease ?
    Isn't it ?
