  • I have mentioned many times in my live streams that I used to be a Hindutva supporter and I turned away from it some years ago. But since many of you have followed me in the course of the last few months, I wanted to do a show where I unambiguously put out the truth about my past and how I got to the present. This will be that show.

You can only do that when you’re financially and otherwise independent and your parents trust your decisions. It was a long journey for me but I have great relationship with both my parents individually. Ofcourse I had to put effort into it and by no means I am adarsh bachhi. Quite the opposite. But maybe because of my honesty and being able to respect boundaries I can gave political debates with them too. I have managed to keep our heads out of the whole right wing brain wash.
I personally have lost some close friends and even relatives. As I believe people who support genocide can’t be trusted to be good honest people with sane logical minds. If you can justify all the crimes, doesn’t care about what is really happening, you are insane. I happily dissociate with them. Because I can have people who has differences in opinion not differences in levels of humanity.
What BJP and every idiot supporter and every silent person is doing is they are damaging the country, they are letting the country be destroyed.
This is my puny role to speak up. Speak up to family, friends and others who I can trust not to shoot, rape or throw acid at my face for saying something unpleasant.
I should stand and speak out on every occasion to save my nation’s democracy, however I can. I believe if I don’t even do this smallest bit then I can’t really face myself.
I couldn’t sleep after watching the video of Manipur. The blatent garlanding of rapists and animals. Anyone who stands with these criminals are not just brainwashed but are potential threats to our society.
In other developed nations this is known as “grooming” to be radicalised. It’s a crime and people are taught about it from school.

Reading Hindu scriptures was my turning point. Let alone the Smritis and Purana, I never knew even the Mahabharata I read as a child was abridged - taking out the worst part. I realised we practiced an edified version of religion. Some of the same thing I used to accuse Islam (as a blind Hindu follower) is there in Hinduism, but 3 feet under and upon which Hindutva world view on cast, religious supremacy, misogyny, rape, toxic masculinity etc. stem from. But when I became agnostic in about 2008, Hindutva was not as big as today. It is the scriptures which I think every Hindus should read and which will open their eyes - or not - but at least Hindus that remain will know what they are following.
Anyway, somehow I still fell in the Hindutva trap and voted BJP in 2014. I came to reality seeing poor people in line for 2 hours every 2-3 days with a smile and saying "Modiji ne kiya hoga toh...". I realised we are heading towards calamity by a army of sycophants and the JNU events turned me into a vocal anti-Hindutva person. Before that I was agnostic, but never very active in challenging Hindutva narrative.
These days I see late teens and youths - mostly as pre-2008 version of me. If one pair of eye is opening, 10 pair of eyes are being hypnotized by Hindutva. We are still heading toward a calamity - and we are almost halfway through it.

    • @Subh8081
      @Subh8081 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@deepanjan6895 Scriptures are as contradictory as life and death. But to realise they are contradictory, you have to read thousands of pages from 10's of texts. Scriptures are as harmful as stale curry. But ro realise they are stale, you have to read thousands of pages from 10's of texts.
Reading scripture is boring. Very very boring. And 99.999% people are lazy. Why read for 50-60 days when I can finish 10 series in Prime or Netflix in the same time? Gurus take advantage of this and do four things-
      1) Focus on the good part of the scripture.
      2) Spin the bad part as good part or justify them.
      3) Focus on bad parts of scripture of other religion to establish superiority and religious pride. More Hindus I know know the evils in Islamic texts and Christian texts than their own texts.
      4) Ensures that his followers are addicted to the superiority complex and consider the said Guru as a fountain of knowledge and authority of the religion.
What if I do the reverse? I become an anti-Guru and you get a shortcut. Knowledge through short cut never leave imprint in the mind. It remains as weak and easy to dismantle with more lies.
Are they all bad? They range from being a bowl of rice with 2-3 Kankad, to bowls with hundreds of kankad. But you don't pick and choose right? You choose the variety of rice you are habituated in consuming from young age and that's it. Others choose another variety of rice they have grown up with. Just the perspective changes. Imagine the variety of rice as different religions. So, it's not important to realize exactly how many Kankad are in which bowls in which variety, but to realize there are kankads in each variety and the social impact they have on culture and practices - past and present.
That's why my friend, my policy is to never attempt to explain where scriptures are wrong. On one hand, this is a vast topic, and on the other, such is futile as sooner or later cognitive dissonance takes over and years of brain washing wins. Yes, if the discussion is very specific and topic based, I do give my input, that's it.

And secondly, it's not ok to have pride on something which is acquired by birth.
And lastly, at least for me, it's not acceptable to have pride on anything that is rotten.
I think myself as an agnostic and also a critic to all religions, including the one of my births as all religions have ambiguous and self-contradictory texts which evil people use to justify hatred, discrimination and violence and manipulate people. I am having none of it, let alone any pride. But I agree people have right to have pride in anything.
So, you go ahead and have pride on Hindutva, or on your birth religion or on the rotten texts on which religion is based and call yourself Hindu atheist or agnostic whatever you think yourself, no one is stopping you.
However, I also have the right to critic and don't you lecture me on that.

@@vimohlive On a separate note, do you plan to hold a discussion any time in the near future about caste based reservations in India (whether it is required or not, if yes - for how long, if not reservations - what other affirmative actions may be looked into, who should pay for it and in what ways etc.) I feel like to really address this topic of “hindu khatre mein hain” we need to go to the root of this “grievance” from uc hindus and confront it.

37:40 same. I never linked BJP with hardcore hindutva back then(I was also 14 - and ofc like you said- we have the privilege to not worry about the hindutva side of their party because it was hardly going to affect us) what had tipped me into supporting Modi back then was the Gujarat Govt. advertisments that portrayed Modi as a leader of change and development (it was smth about Solar panels).
Obviously there was a huge anti-UPA wave, people were tired of them, and an energetic atmosphere that Modi brought in (again with his campaign ads) was smth I had never seen in my small life. It felt as if country was coming together for smth great.
I think what turned me against the BJP was their arrogance and how they broke and insulted the regional parties.(thankfully it was early for me: Oct 2014, MH elections) The open assault on democracy baffled me. Few years later I was a humanities student and then my opposition extended not only to BJP but also their ideology. It's now nightmarish to think a party with such poisonous mindset is even allowed to exist.

Though caste based bias is still at large even in TamilNadu, leaving caste name from one's surname was a start for better health of democratic values. TN has been forefront for progressive ideology, welcoming inclusiveness overall. Southern states have always been largely resistant for the religious radicalization of people by RSS & BJP. I'm waiting for the day where right wing fanta boi's realize they were wrong all this while and have lame justification for their lack of common sense.

I also feel responsible when I hear about Hindus attacking Muslims.
I appreciate your honest, specific atonement for your contribution to undermining the world’s largest democracy! However, in examining my privilege, I can’t just point at you and say, “well I never did anything that bad, and in fact I vocally opposed anti-Muslim speech from the very first time I heard it from my parents! So my hands are clean and I’m one of the good ones.” Nope, as long as they’re being terrorized, while I can expect more legal protection, my hands are covered in blood too.
Excuses don’t make me feel better. But it brings me some peace to hear you hold yourself accountable because I get the time to reflect about how it’s true for me too, and to ask myself what I’m going to do about it.
Also your story reminds me of the story of a former neo-nazi white supremacist. Until I met him and worked alongside him at Black Lives Matter protests, I didn’t know someone could change so much.
Btw I really appreciate when you share your platform with individuals who have more direct experience of oppression.

29:40 I am 23, Maybe I should be glad that I did not spend so much time watch news when I was young as I do today. I did start taking an interest in news during the lockdown but it got too depressing so I deleted my news apps started limiting the news intake. When I started my first job at 21 I started taking an interest in news again especially at the beginning of Ukrain and Russia War. Now I am very much aware of what's happening around me and how wrong it is.

I also got into audiobooks during the lockdown. I was very much affected by the diary of a young girl, and maybe that sparked an interest and how holocaust came into existence. Maybe everyone should read it in their young years to know what this could lead to. If anyone is interested "The tattooist of Auschwitz" is also once thought-provoking book.

This govt is like a cult and people who follow cults always have insecurities, and cult members don't even realise they r following a cult.
People need to view this govt as an employee where r taxes r like the salary and if r govt doesn't do work it's fired. This is the only way r country can develop.
Lastly my parents r catholic but still voted for bjp in 2014 not bcz of hindutva bcz they were tired of congress. At 2017 they stopped we all r guilty, not just u.
Also I feel bad for all the ex andhbhakth after all they support the govt so much, still the govt keeps giving them a kick in their ass and fills their minds with hindu insecurities. When reality kicks them, they will start to see this govt no different than the British.(divide and rule)

So I'm about 16 minutes into the video and you say that the brutality against the students is what helped you re-examine your world view.
I think you're a much kinder person that I am because when I was a right winger, even as the CAA, JNU was happening. I was still on the side of the government assuming that all the bad things were happening to the students coz they deserved it, they had it coming, they were the ones who started the riots, they were the ones who started attacking the police first and when the police strikes back, they shouldn't cry about it coz they started it.
I had this Hindu Khatre me hai mindset back then which made me dangerously oblivious to my privileges and the injustices that the protestors and minorities faced.
