Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and civil rights activist who had a seismic impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s. Among his many efforts, King headed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Through his nonviolent activism and inspirational speeches, he played a pivotal role in ending legal segregation of Black Americans, as well as the creation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, among several other honors. He was assassinated by James Earl Ray and died on April 4, 1968, at age 39. King continues to be remembered as one of the most influential and inspirational Black leaders in history.
King was fatally shot by James Earl Ray at 6:01 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 1968, as he stood on the motel's second-floor balcony. The bullet entered through his right cheek, smashing his jaw, then traveled down his spinal cord before lodging in his shoulder. Abernathy heard the shot from inside the motel room and ran to the balcony to find King on the floor.
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park covers about 35 acres (0.14 km2) and includes several sites in Atlanta, Georgia related to the life and work of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Within the park is his boyhood home, and Ebenezer Baptist Church - the church where King was baptized and both he and his father, Martin Luther King Sr., were pastors - as well as, the grave site of King, Jr., and his wife, civil rights activist Coretta Scott King.
The tomb of Martin Luther Jr. and Coretta Scott King is located across Auburn Avenue from the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park Visitor Center on the grounds of the King Center. Freedom Hall sits at the east end of the reflecting pool that now surrounds the tomb, and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church is located near the west end.
King was originally buried at South-View Cemetery on Jonesboro Road in Atlanta, the same place as his parents. His body was reinterred in the King Center tomb in 1970, though at the time the administrative building, Freedom Hall, and the reflecting pool did not exist (the administrative building and pool were completed in 1977, and Freedom Hall opened in 1981). When Coretta died on January 30, 2006, she was also buried elsewhere because the original tomb was only designed to hold one coffin. After being enlarged, her body was reinterred next to her husband in November 2006.

As a native American from Colorado USA feel so honored to be able to take this walk with you,for I know that I'll never see this place in person, I'm so thankful for the huge sacrifice Dr.King made in His lifetime and the how his story ended, but as we all know ,he's dream n prayers and the hard work was not in vain, for we,as children of black and brown people will overcome, thank you, Scott for this wonderful experience,

I live in Atlanta I remember back in 2016 I was working and we had no work and my co worker told me where Martin’s grave was at I was down the street from it so I went to go check it out and my job didn’t mind. I went and saw his and his wife Coretta’s grave, I saw the church they used to attend to, and the SCLC place they used to be at as well and I was amazed to be there cus I love MLK and the security guard was nice as well she just told everyone don’t sit on the thing where the graves were at but we can take photos. The experience was amazing for me.

Beautiful. MLK had a profound impact on me age 11 all the way over here in New Zealand. His vision, his work and commitment to his people was amazing. Now at 42, over my last 30+ years I have read, watched and learnt so much more about this great man and this important movement. I love that you let the places, words and visuals tell the story. Compelling. Remembrance. Hope. I hope to visit one day soon. Much love to you Scott long time fan, love your videos. Rest in Power Dr King and Mrs King.

This is one powerful video, really hits deep, my Mother taught me from a very young age that we should respect everyone, no matter your race, religious beliefs, we're all equal. Some of the most inspirational people to walk this earth were Black, MLK, Rosa Parks, Bob Marley. Still to this day their message is just as powerful.

Thanks so much for this, Scott. I came here to New York from Maryland in 1968 with my mom & lived downstairs in the basement apartment in my grandmother and aunt’s house. I remember being upstairs in my grandmother’s house in the living room and I saw Dr. King’s funeral procession on tv. I didn’t understand who he was, then, cause I was age 5 going on 6 that year. As I got older & did more research and watching documentaries, I fully loved and appreciated him as well as Coretta for everything they’ve done in the name of civil rights. After Dr. King was assassinated, Coretta picked up where he left off & kept his memory alive. This video got me very teary eyed. I miss Dr. Martin & Coretta Scott King very much. Thanks again. Much love to you.

But we teach is the truth. Violence don't solve nothing. We enjoy your videos.so keep doing what you are doing. Know we love and appreciate you. Feb is also heart month. Again thank you. I toured Dr. King’s childhood home. At the time I was there the King Center was undergoing renovations! Mrs King was still alive. Such a Great Man! Who made a huge sacrifice for us all! Let Freedom reign!! Thanks Scott! Really love this one! 🙏🏽

Hi there, RIP Martin Luther King, 💐💐💐💐💐💐, murdered for trying to change the world and to give people freedom and there human rights. He was so young when he was murdered, a very beautiful memorial site for a very special man, the grounds are exceptional and graves are amazing. We must never forget what this man tried to do for us. It should be equal rights all over for Black or White people, women or man. Thank you Scott for letting us tag along xxx👍✌️🤟🏼⭐️

Beautiful video, I remember visiting that museum as part of a 4 day field trip in my 6th grade class visiting Atlanta with the rest of my classmates and teachers as a end of the year trip, we were picking up on so much about the civil rights movement and I never got tired of it. We also visited the grave of Dr. king and his wife. I love every bit of the video, thank you Scott for sharing this with the rest of us.

I echo the same comments as everyone else to THANK YOU Scott On Tape. I've been watching your channel for a while. Loved your Emmitt Till video, Black music artists, you do me proud. Keep up the good work 👍🏾 This video was on point. I've been there three times but only got one chance to go inside the house. If you get a chance, tour the house. It is amazing. Toys he would have played with, food items his mother would have used to cook with 😊 Again thank you. 👍🏾✌🏾♥️

This was all very moving, thanks for bringing us along. The monument and park is a very fitting tribute for such a great man. My parents always brought Dr. King up alongside Nelson Mandela examples of the struggles for equality and civil rights in different countries and I’m glad to be able to show them his and his wife’s final resting place. RIP Dr. & Mrs. King

What an amazing video and tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Junior the sad reality his dreams have been lost if he was to see how society is today the racism that still exists high rates of murder drug induced deaths suicide all those beautiful dreams have been lost, but with videos like this, they will not be forgotten. I just hope the kids of today grasp Some of the lost forgotten history and make a change
