    This might be an unpopular opinion, however intriguing this watch is, I've seen U-Boat and HYT make watches that contain Oil; and with the recent shutdown of HYT - that's sort of where my worry lies with purchasing one of these. Independent brands some times ignore the Service aspect of watches, especially with Mechanical ones. Which is something that F.P. Journe takes into consideration with their time pieces. Owning one of these, however fabulous it may be - there just aren't that many watchmakers who could service one of these timepieces. If HYT has taught us anything, if an independent brands can simply fail to exist - where does one get the watch services because it's such an intricate timepiece?

    • @SwissWatchGang
      @SwissWatchGang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, independents failing isn´t anything new and yes that is in fact an concern. Only time will tell. Although with Ressence they have more watches which don´t contain oil so HYT was too focused on this one unique feature they had. A different scenario if you ask me. And with Ressence the oil isn´t made to display the time but only push up the dial onto the glass so much less risky.

    • @barfymann362
      @barfymann362 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SwissWatchGang Similar to U-Boat's design, where the Oil is there to essentially create depth. I like the concept, and I hope this allows watch makers to advance their knowledge towards servicing. My love for Mechanical watches is the ability to pass them down, and hopefully this keeps the legacy alive. It's a fascinating timepiece, and surely Ressence is trying something new. Much like Urwerk and MB&F - they're definitely pushing innovation.

    We truly are witnessing a golden age of watchmaking. I don't see that slowing any time soon with technological advancements being achieved in ever smaller increments. This Ressence is utterly mesmerising. Fascinating also that it's often people who are not watchmakers in origin that come up with the most out there solutions and designs. What a pleasure to be able to see these things up close.

    For a super super-premium price, why does an oil filled watch only have a 30m depth rating? The type 5 is rated at only 100m and it is a “diver”. Very cool watches, but wouldn’t an oil filled barrel make it easier to get a rating of 300m or even 1000m? I’m not a physicist, but I understand concepts. Oil does not compress like air and would be pressing against higher pressures way more efficiently. Just asking…

    • @SwissWatchGang
      @SwissWatchGang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @trilobiteterror8015 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, of all the watches to complain about being "just an ETA caliber with a module". The majority (215) of the 376 parts in this watch are that module, the highly advanced and innovative Ressence Orbital Convex System. Watch some more videos on how it works (especially on the compensating bellows system) and you'll see how much engineering and work is put into each one.
