It came from a collection of old physics movies put out by the American Association of Physics Teachers many years ago. After searching for a while, I couldn’t find anything about the Rutherford experiment that was very interesting on TH-cam.
I'd imagine electrons are so much more delocalized than the Gold nucleus, and coupling it with the fact that an alpha particle is so much more massive, dense while carrying immense kinetic energy; that the electrons of the Gold atom would have a negligible effect on the alpha particles
@@mmoverman The mass should be irrelevant because at this scale gravitation is practically non existant. The electical force of electrons and protons however should be equal.
@@Skandalos yes, gravity would not need to be considered here. If an alpha particle did happen to hit an electron, the electron would certainly be knocked out of the atom but because the electron carries so little mass, the deflection of the alpha particle would be somewhat minimal.
Old is gold
Brilliant mind and labor of rutherford
Great video!! Thanks for uploading!!!
This is gold
Experiment was not originally performed by Rutherford but by Earnst
Rutherford's full name was Earnest Rutherford
It was performed by his two assistants
It was preformed by Geiger and Marsden. Though Rutherford had interpreted what their experiment meant.
This where dumb people like me get confused 🤣
H. Geiger and E. Marsden
Great Im searching for this only
Do u have complete footage
This is all I had.
@@mmoverman from where did you get this?

its in my class 12 th text book 🗿
Thanks man...
Awesome. I wonder if the electrons of the gold atoms also have an impact on the path of the alpha particles.

Yes, the electrons are about four magnitudes of order less massive so essentially no effect.

Finally
is he using an old oscilloscope?
It probably wasn’t too old at the time lol.
@@mmoverman lol
It's to good
Is that Rutherford
No, just an actor playing a scientist.
Wooooiw

Nice! Gotta re-upload it
Hahahhaahahahha maxwelll
Thankyou
You’re welcome! I have to admit, I was really surprised how popular this video has become.
Who is the scientist? He doesn't look like Rutherford (at least not with the images google showed off)
Probably just some random actor sometime in the late ‘50s.
