Having worked in Tenerife for many years everyone needs to be aware of taxi colours. Blue roof is Arona council registration, based las Americas to Airport. They cannot pick up in Adeje only if booked by phone, that is why blue roof showing green light won’t stop when flagging down, they ain’t being ignorant they can’t stop by law. Identified by Arona council decals on doors both sides. Adeje council taxi’s, covers las Americas up to Calleo Salvaje and beyond and are all white, including roofs and same rules apply, they can’t pick up in Arona district unless booked by phone so won’t stop even if showing green light. Identified by Adeje council decals on both doors. Always ask price before going on long trips say from airport to hotel and check meter is being used. At end of journey driver will push a button on meter and it will go up a euro or two. They’re not ripping you off it’s just the igic, a small 7% tax that is added on everything, check your restaurant receipt and you’ll see it at the bottom, people think it’s tips added on but it’s like our VAT so be nice and leave a tip
Spare a thought for illegal taxi driver he might of picked up a transgender & got more than he bargained for. You've got to have balls for a latenight pick up.! Lol.
@@COLSPLACE44 I’m not sure praying will be enough but git to try stay positive kers hope we just turn up I can take losing as long as we try I can’t stand it when we lose and the other team wanted it more than us
We had a similar incident late one night after we left the beer garden, guy pulled over and shouted if we wanted a taxi!! Car looked dodgy so we passed on the offer!! Good vlog Colin 👍
Good advice! We went on vacation to Tenerife from Sweden in 1999. It resulted in moving to Tenerife for ever. We have never experienced any problem during the years. It must be the safes place on Earth. Before moving to Tenerife we visited 60 countries. 😊
Great informative video Colin, we had a similar experience last sept, we got a proper taxi from Paddy's opp The Columbus to Torres del sol and he took us everywhere....fare was clocking up...ended being €17 which we refused to pay as its normally €5-7 plus we kept asking where u taking us...we paid him what we normally pay and he threatened "policia" we ended up walking away after another couple who wanted a cab got in
Great advice. I had to wait outside my hotel at 6.30am a few times during my visit. This happened twice asking was I looking for a taxi. I knew who was coming so I obviously said NO. Congrats on 20.05K!
Hi Tricia - hope youre well - its the legit taxis it affects as well- awful that they approached you at that time. We’re all back to reality & dodgy weather now I think 😁 x
Good Job pointing that out Colin. I remember the Taxi Drivers being quite rude and one drove off when he dropped me back to my Hotel before when I had a few drinks in me without giving me my change. And that was years ago. But good to point this out for people to be aware of it. Liking your Editing and Music your Vlogs are really coming along well fella. Great getting a little insight into the other Vloggers on the Island. 😎👍🏼
Sorry for the late comment Colin … great you gave this warning out … there are a lot of scammers out there ….90% of the time we call a taxi from an hotel or use a taxi rank however we were overcharged on a short journey back to our hotel ( near taxi rank) but when we did the same journey couple of days later in another taxi we were charged a lot less When I questioned the higher fare I was told it was ‘because carnival week’ Thanks again for doing this video & hopefully more tourists will be saved from falling for ‘fake’ taxis Well done 👍👍xx
Thanks Anne - i’m catching up on watching videos too! Time flies!! Hopefully the taxi thing doesnt become a major problem for the resort but judging by the comments, it does happen so forewarned is fore-armed hopefully!
Very interesting vlog Col especially for solo travellers like myself. I'm never out late, and the odd time I am I'm always with someone or near my accommodation. I'm lucky I know a lot of people but still always better to be safe than sorry. BTW I loved the tune what's it called ?
Been going to Tenerife for 27 years and never had issue with Taxi. I am here now and had 2 taxi’s and been ripped off twice. First was from airport where he added every supplement and was 10 euro more than normal. Last night from Las Am to Los C the taxi tried to add on airport supplements, when i challenged it, he instantly removed it and grunted. These were official taxis.
Apparently the fares have increased lately but that dies sound like a definite rip off mate. Ive never had problems previously either so sorry to hear this.
Hi Colin you have to be very careful and every taxi we have been in they have been very clean xx. OMG so windy have they planted them palm-trees for you so don't miss Tenerife to much lol xx
Ah beautiful Bournemouth - my new fave holiday place until I get to Tenerife 💜 🎉 shame about the dodgy drivers but thanks for the heads up! Thank you for reminding us of the regulations
Thanks for letting us know Col. It makes you wonder if theres more of these fake taxis. Not all genuine taxis are quite new like you said. Theres many old 90s mercs still in operation.
Absolutely - the main giveaways are the licence plate stickers on the front doors plus the SP badge by the back reg plate. If theyre missing, then avoid 👍
Applauds to you Col on giving serious advice to viewers as it could be a young person well tanked leaving that area and would not even realise they are being robbed and now your home I hope your cherry still intacted 😂😂cheers 👍👍
In Spain and it's islands the rear registration number plate of any taxi has white lettering on a blue background. The one in your video dis appear to show this as it drove away. At a glance it seemed to be a genuine cab but may possibly have been fake running on false plates.
Currently in Tenerife now and searched TH-cam for this reason, I was stood waiting for a taxi and was asked at least 15 times if i wanted a taxi from cars that clearly were not taxis. Some old and rusty and a couple that looked decent but clearly not taxis. Waited for a white one with taxi on the top and meter inside
Sorry to hear it’s still a problem. You can normally tell a true taxi - very clean, usually under 3-4 yrs old & well looked after, driver smartly dressed & meters, card options etc all clearly on display - plus a green light on top & taxi numbers on doors etc. Stay safe! Check this link for more info - www.tenerifeguide.eu/taxis-in-tenerife/
hi Col, we stayed columbus last September whilst waiting outside for the transfer bus going to the airport, car stopped at the entrance a guy got out came up the stairs asking a few of us where we waiting on a taxi as he was the taxi, when I looked at the car there was also a woman sitting in the front of the car, also car had no markings on it identifying it as a taxi.
hi col loving youre videos in tenerife asking rather than telling ?the taxi was a typical colour of blue and white as you say the green light is for pick up and the red light is for when they are busy could he of just forgot to switch his light from red to green ? maybe a call on the way back from a job ? or maybe a fiddle job on the way home ? as you say we dont know if he had a meter in that particular taxi or not either way keep on doin the good vlogs👍
Yea difficult to tell - definitely no green light & from what i can see on the video, no council reg no. on his front drivers door either. Thanks for you feedback re the videos - i’m hoping just to show what I see - most of you guys are intelligent enough to make your own judgements & use it for your own good when over there 😁👍👍
Hi Keith - there should be a ‘subscribe’ button on your phone app or TH-cam page if you are using a computer. Just hit that button & youre done. Totally free. And theres a bell icon that you tap if you want to be notified when i put up a new video 👍👍
If you go on the jet ski tour there is a Russian fake taxi driver there that tells you he is your ride back in fairness he charges more but has a new Mercedes no meter so your taking a risk but it was only 4 euros more than we paid to get there so we didn't complain. its the same place the submarine leaves from .
Where I live it’s £11.00 for 3 miles and if it’s after midnight it’s probably £16 due to late night work. So sorry £15 I would have accepted sorry to say that. Grateful at 1.30 am getting to your destination in one piece is 15 quid well spent at that time in the morning
True but bear in mind there’s plenty of legit taxis still around who will do it for the correct & much lower price. Plus getting in 1 of these - you never know where you might end up. Theyre not legit for a reason.
Scary and staying at palm beach me and sandie got few taxi to los Chris at most it was 6 euros 💶 good look out also one taxi wouldn’t let me get in properly and was sitting next to him he would start driving and even if I hadn’t put seat belt on and he was going crazy in the taxi
Interesting Col, your like the Rodger cook reports, I used taxis in tenerife before they've been spot on. You would of thought the police, other taxi drivers & local council will have stamped on illegal taxis,, then again they don't exactly do much about pick pockets. 20years back they had the 3peanuts in a cup gang game. In certain tourist hotspots. If you clamped down they would just move to other areas. PS I bet they wouldn't misbehave in the middle east. 17000 & counting no doubt you're going to tell me it's 19,000 now.
😆😆😆 - think its just hit 19 Andy - as the account holder i can see figures in TH-cam studio app which is mire ‘real time’, Hopefully this taxi thing isnt widespread but it does obviously occur, judging by the comments here.
