He used slowdown and savestates in an emulator to record a sequence of inputs that, when played back, constitute the run you saw in the video. So he made the run, but it's not possible with human levels of skill - hence _tool-assisted_.

He did the run not in real time, but with slowdowns and such, recording his inputs (button presses, button releases, specific joystick angles and tilts) at every single frame of the playthrough. Then, that recording is played back through the robot into an N64 - the signals for each frame's button presses and such are being sent to the real console as though a regular controller were plugged in.

I don't get it. What is TASBOT? I was under the impression that the robot is playing the game (something that can be difficult to program), but the guy is talking about the gameplay as if he's playing it despite not holding a controller. This is confusing.
If I were sitting next to the guy who was fucking laughing out of his mind, I'd probably just wanna leave. God. Its so loud on video, I couldn't imagine how irritated some people were hearing that the whole time.
