Explore With Us next time count the sparkplugs and you will know how many cylinders it is!!!! There are only a handfull of engines that have two plugs per cylinder
Explore With Us How often have you encountered venomous snakes and other dangerous critters? Also do you use masks to keep from inhaling the dust and dried feces/guano? That first one lacked the dust and rodents, any chance it's actually still in use?
I have heard of these places. They are for hikers and explorers who respectfully use them in need, and they are restocked and maintained by people called "Angels" or something like that. They are awesome.
They do in real life what I do in survival games like Ark. There's great satisfaction in helping people in need, even if they never thank you. To FREELY serve others is the most effective way of bringing meaning and fulfillment to one's life. Of course, when forced to serve others, that's when true hatred manifests.
Death Valley has cabins like this as well. The fact is those who venture out typically respect these old places, the harder the place is to get to, the better shape they tend to be. These old treasures should be respected for future generations to share. Good find!
Very surprised that these cabins were in that good of shape. Destructive people travel far and wide to find places like this to loot and trash for jollies.
Yeah, it was maintained by people who actually preserve the original structure for everybody to enjoy, you can go from cabin to cabin. There was a log book on the table, sign in. Most these cabins belong to the Nat'l Forest Service or BLM. These cabins are first come first serve, free to sleep in. Pack your trash out.
I like that you leave things as you found them and don't tell locations. Back in the 1960's we explored all over the desert, lots of mines and abandoned areas as a friend had a mining claim. We built a cabin (11 of us), eventually vandals found it and destroyed most everything except the mine shaft. It's sad that people think they have to destroy and shoot up everything. In any case your videos are very interesting for those of us that can't get out there anymore. By the way, that old truck engine looks like a flat head. We overhauled some of those back in the 60's.
I always got this sort of sad and haunted feeling exploring abandoned places. Places that once were full of life and had a purpose and now are left to decay with fading memories...
I really respect that you guys don't share locations! I hate when people do this because the places always get wrecked. A few beautiful hidden spots around where I live were discovered by the cities hiking blog & they posted about it & then it went viral & now the campground is so destroyed they had to close the grounds for a year to help it recover from the damage of partying & heavy traffic. It's happened to a lot of places around here & nothing makes me more angry than people giving these 'hidden' locations away!! If someone wants to go bad enough, they should do their research to find the location!
These cabins are kept stocked by volunteers of the national parks service. They’re kept up for avid hikers and backpackers who make their way through the area and are in need of a rest place. As well as wonderful rest areas they also serve as incredible testaments to this desert’s history.
One time (around '69) in Big Sur... on one of the mountains inland found chimney / fireplace shaped masonry structure... visited Sur again maybe 4-5 yrs ago, could not relocate. Resident said survival structure for hikers stuck there overnight. No supplies just structure...
You can tell he doesn’t really hike or he’d know this. It’s people like this that destroy other people resources without knowing what they’re doing. A lot of folks respected the rules and left emerge supplies and kept the place clean.
This is a "free use" cabin. If he had looked in that notebook he would have seen entries from people who have visited/used the cabin. There was probably a flag inside that is meant to be hung outside to let others know the cabin is in use since these are on a first come, first use basis. The proper thing to do is to leave non-perishable food or other supplies for the next user.
Theres a lot of old abandon mining communities in the Mojave desert. Bickel camp is still mind to this day, there is an old mining community just beyond Bickle camp that still have a few cabins for folks to stay in who visit the area. Theres a few rules though (1) respect the place. (2) must leave a single item of non perishable(s) or something of use for the next person. (3) must write your experience about your stay in the notebook that is provided. You would think the cabins are abandoned but they're not.
This area is amazing. So much to explore. Lots of mines and lots of cabins. You can stay and go as you please and there are log books where you can check the last time someone’s been there. There should be a flag pole at many of these locations. You raise the flag to alert others in the area that the cabin is currently in use. There is a little area near there with a huge bus and a couple of old buildings that are very best down. Such a fun place. Could explore out there for years. The reason that vandals aren’t messing up the cabins is because they are in use a lot and frequented by the Mojave Reserve personnel.
Saddens me when people vandalize these cabins that people put there heart and soul into. Simple people that just wanted to get away from mainstream city life. This cabins are a refuge for explorers and hikers. Take something, leave something it could be that bottle of water or can of beans that saves your life. And always as most know pack out what you pack in. Places like these are a treasure and I have personally can attest too being glad to have stumbled upon one during a week long outing. Please respect these places for others and always write the date you there.
WE WENT ON A 'NATURE WALK' ALONG A NATURAL MARSH IN LOS ANGELES (ACTUALLY ORANGE) COUNTY CALIF. WITH MY YOUNG SON'S GRADE SCHOOL CLASS... SEVERAL TIMES THE TEACHERS HAD TO ASK THE MEHICANO STUDENTS TO STOP USING THEIR BIG GRAFITII MARKERS TO "MARK THEIR TERRITORY BS!". IT'S GOTTA BE F'CKIN' INGRAINED AT BIRTH; PASSED DOWN FROM 13YO PARENTS GENERATION AFTER GENERATION!
As someone who also lives way out in the Mojave, I don't want to know how oppressively hot and boring summers in the Mojave would have been for a miners family. I wonder if they sent their families to cooler areas for the summers if they were able.
Sometimes those cabins are life saving you never know when somebody have a emergency situation and need a place to stay that is why respect those places is a good thing.

Went to California and Las Vegas, and fell in complete LOVE with the dessert. It was like I was finally home. 🥰 I live in VA, and it was nice to have a change of view.
Another desert volunteer cabin. They are well kept for a reason. People who explore go out to these places and stay. Usually the sign of a flag from the porch indicates someone is staying in it during that time. These places are all over, if you know where to look.
I felt like I was there with you, what a nice video, you really did try to cover every area, often times other explorers have fancy music and footage but leave you wanting to see more, really enjoyed this one, down to earth, very respectful and thorough, you sound like a sweetheart, thanks and blessings to you! Always stay safe.
Its a mystery why mindless vandals can be bothered to go all the way out to a place like this, just to trash it. Wtf. and a sad reflection on society. Awesome location ❤
Places like this are great for miners, campers, hikers, and anyone that is that far out and needs shelter. It is so senseless to vandalize them. It's just stupid, you never know when you may need one! Always try to leave them like you found them, and restock if possible. Happy trails!
I've stayed at a few of the old camps like this. If you read the signs on the walls, some say they are free to use, just don't destroy it for other explorers to use. One I stayed at actually asked for people to help improve the area and had a list of easy things people can do, and of supplies you could leave if possible. Fresh drinking water was #1..
I can't help but imagine these places in their hay day when people occupied it and what occurred to cause some of them just to up and leave all their possessions and never return. I get almost melancholic thinking about it. I love your guys' channel! Thanks for bringing the past alive for these forgotten places!
It is many years later that I'm writing this comment...but in the kitchen of the larger house with the great view...over the sink there was a jar with water and a sprig of something green, a flower or something in it. It gets really hot there in the desert...and was wondering how the water could still be in the glass and how the plant could still be standing upright? I'm sure no one will answer this question because this is an old video, but it seems someone must've been there not too long ago. Thanks for the videos...sure wish you still did these types of videos. Your voice sounds so excited to see all these things and how you are able to view peoples lives from such a personal angle. It makes it so interesting...as we are walking along with you as you see all these forgotten treasures left behind by forgotten people. Your enthusiasm is really fun to see. The good old days, right?
I agree with you. It is better not to share because of vandals. It is beautiful to see a place and keep it intact, preserving its spirit, as when it was seen or used for the last time. It is an awesome sensation to feel the mistery of all the objects there. Imagining energies crossing by the places...
One of the other reasons why the team had abandon their original topics was due to them having troubles with some stalkers and trolls. They did state that they are willing to return to their original topics if many of their subscribers are interested. Oddly the Corvid-19 pandemic was another reason.
A friend of mine was living in Randsburg (old mining town) when one Saturday morning he heard voices in his living room, he got up to investigate and about four people were walking around looking at his stuff, he asked them "what the hell are you doing in my house ?" they responded "oh we thought we were in a Antique shop" --LOL so is life living out in the middle of nowhere.
You've gotta go to trotter road outside of Mojave. Then explore east retards Barstow. You'll find some cool places. And then just off the highway from for corners, heading towards Barstow theres a hill with some cement chimneys on them. It's an abandon military training facility from post WW2 for decontamination from fallout. The locals used to call it Christmas tree mountain. Goes three stories under ground.
I appreciate that you respected the location. Its good that you dont show exact locations because there are some malevolent people that would encourage mayhem. It looks like people just left abruptly...GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED.... You are BRAVE, Much respect.
Absolutely AWESOME tour through the old structures. My camera is whining, “Git me out!! Let’s go take some pics!!” Excellently well-done! I’m guessing 1930-40’s-maybe some escaped convicts?? NOBODY would creep up on them there with a couple of big dogs on watch! I’d love to take a ton of B&W photos & print them myself.👍🏻
At 4:02 omg! EDWARDS Coffee! 😂My Daddy, a WW2 Veteran, was both charismatic and hilarious! Dad: "Do u have Edwards in a can?" "Yes." 70 years ago, I found a fully stocked drug store in Custer South Dakota, and a home next to it, so I knocked on the door and if I could go in, he tool me in and what a bunch of stuff! I noticed about 8 packages of Eagles brand of cigarettes. told him it was just for saving, I did not smoke!! He said, No, you are underage!!! Told him I had a collection! have an old green label lucky strike, Camels Hit parade, Vanguard, and about 20 others!! Nope!! When I became of age I don't know why I never went back to get them!! O lost them all by giving them to Mom and Dad during the 1949 Blizzard, when they panicked being out during that storm!!
This appears to be part of a set of cabins that are being upkept by a historical foundation- Geer and Rogers Cabins in Mojave Preserve. "The two cabins represent the first half of the 20th century mining era in the preserve. The cabins need cleaning, structural stabilization of roofs, and repairs of windows, floors, and doors. The preserve wants to make the historic structures safe for visitors to explore and experience the early mining era and to preserve the mining history for future generations."
Todd Quigley NOT JUST jeeps!! People in REAL trucks go 4-wheeling out there too! Those cabins are a nice stop-in before AND after we get done 4-wheeling up in the hills!!!
The first cabin definately Some one was there recently , sad to see and to think that many people lost jobs due to mine closing down, the photo of the oldish couple made me sad, i don't know y though , thamks for a great VID , God bless u
Great video!! These vids that you do like this really make me want to move back home to So. Cal. Your camera work and the clarity of the video is awesome. Thank you very much for doing what you do, I enjoy seeing the desert!! Personally, I'm with You on keeping the secrecy of your locations. Places like this need to be protected. I had to edit my opinion with the fact that the horse shoes on the doors are mounted in the correct position. If they were mounted the other way around meaning pointed down, all the luck would run out. But they've held the luck in and maybe that's why this place has not been severely damaged by vandals. Just sayin'.
The plactic as you called them sheets were used in the printing of a news paper. The were placed on a roll cylinder and clipped down on the edges. As the paper sheet rolled through the machine the roller printed the pattern onto the paper. Those were used in color printing. Each color used its on plate. At up 3 to 6 plates and you would have a picture of a sale item, clothing mostly in that size on a half or full page. Keep going love your work. John in Springtown TX. 2018 Dec. 31.
i noticed that too! i was a pressman & plate burner @ the Hi Desert Star for years when i was younger...cant help but notice anything having to do with printing
Yea, had to Google it afterwards, apparently it's free to use for any hikers/overlanders on a first come first serve basis, just leave it as you found it and leave something for the next person. Supposed to raise the flag as well to let people know that it's currently in use.
That whole location looks like someone still lives there. The interior buildings and the outhouse look awfully clean for being an old ghost town. I think it is still occupied.
The first few buildings you checked out defiantly didn`t look abandoned . Not buy the looks of the propane Coleman lanterns. The Glow mantels were all still in tact.
THIS. I respect this so much. FInding places like this are like gems. Id love to take over an abandoned shed/cabin and rebuild it. My garage is exactly like this. Only filled with 50-60-70s stuff. If id ever come over to the states on holiday, this is what my holiday would look like. Love what you do.
I know exactly where this is. There's another camp close to that one. The gentleman is actually burried in that valley. And yes that place is watched and has been restored
This is a survival shelter/cabin for hikers and visitors. There are many cabins like this all over the Preserve. I stayed at this particular one before. Visitor put up the American Flag (you saw at the beginning of the video) when occupy the cabin overnight, take the Flag down before leaving the premise.
The engine in the old truck was an inline 6 cylinder...only six spark plugs...the old water heater was manufactured about 7 miles down the road from my area in TN. I used to work there, STATE STOVE WATER HEATERS. Back then, they did not hire many women, but as my luck would have it, they hired me...a female...on the assembly line...GREAT video! Took me to an entirely different state and to an entirely different time! Keep up the good work!
This is a great find. Very happy that you do NOT reveal it's location. Anyone can just use Google Maps to research it's location, if they really want to know. I can already feel the solitude and quiet this location offered. Thumb's UP. Thanks.
Looks like a ghost woman drinking coffee looking out the window at the 8minutes :21 seconds mark on the right side of the frame as you walk by the doorway. I thought somebody was with you, but I didn't hear anyone else the rest of the time
I used snapped photo editor and lightened it up and enlarged it can't see details but definitely looks like someone holding a cup or something in front of the window
Those plastic sheets were what the printers used to make the news paper on a daily basis. They were a negative, ink applied paper laid down pressed and wallah newspaper is printed.
Another awesome video and I think those white squares you were looking at lined against the wall as isulation may have been from a printing press for a newspaper? Like the templates they use to press the ink onto the paper, just my guess. Thanks again for the great video!
Yes, I agree about the offset printing press (disposable) plates (or platens, they may have been called). And that old truck was an early '50's Dodge with a 6 cylinder flathead engine, an old design. You guys remind me of when I was a lot younger and loved exploring and taking crazy risks, but wow, what a rush! I am hooked on your videos, and love the curiosity and energy and enthusiasm for adventure you have; "let's go! " nicely sums it up.👍👌🤜🤛🤩
Thank you for sharing. This is awesome, I’ve enjoyed it. I don’t need to know where it is. There is a hiking trail just outside of Tucson, which was beautiful up to a few years ago. A couple of years ago some went up and now the beautiful rocks has graffiti all over them destroying the whole atmosphere.
18:05 Creepy chair again. I'm going to move all the stuff out except leave one chair. Why is there always a chair in every creepy shack? Great video EWU! How are you not at million subscribers yet? You find great places. Head south to Arizona soon!
Thanks for the respect. Wish more people would respect the old spots. You can always add items just don't remove stuff. When we all share it works for all. Happy trails!
This dude literally just walked into somebodies home that is clearly not abandoned and was like like “woah guys there’s food in here! isn’t that crazy?!”
At 9:30, I think you walked right by the old mine adit (entrance) that has been blocked off by a wooden barrier to prevent people from falling in or thieving from it. The cabin you explored next was probably where they smelted the ore from their mining. Hence the stove that wasnt used to heat that building.
Just ran across this video in one of my old Urbex/exploration playlists. I really miss the old Explore With Us channel! I hope the previous owners of this channel are doing well these days!

One of the other reasons why the team had abandon their original topics was due to them having troubles with some stalkers and trolls. They did state that they are willing to return to their original topics if many of their subscribers are interested. Oddly the Corvid-19 pandemic was another reason.
I kept expecting Randy Quaid to pop out. Good old cousin Eddie. "Rattlesnake Roundup time!!"
LMAO you need help setting up the grill Eddie ??
Reallll..... tomato ketchup Eddie?
A friend of mine was living in Randsburg (old mining town) when one Saturday morning he heard voices in his living room, he got up to investigate and about four people were walking around looking at his stuff, he asked them "what the hell are you doing in my house ?" they responded "oh we thought we were in a Antique shop" --LOL so is life living out in the middle of nowhere.
You didn't even open up and read the notebook. Are you sure you didn't meet the occupant?
Saw Fireball on the shelf....can't have been unoccupied for very long
Thank you, for showing this, and thank you for not disturbing anything
Looks straight out of "The Hills have Eyes" or something the Manson Gang would have used.
So eerie seeing that photo of them. Makes you wonder about their lives.
At 4:02 omg! EDWARDS Coffee! 😂My Daddy, a WW2 Veteran, was both charismatic and hilarious! Dad: "Do u have Edwards in a can?"
"Yes."
Dad: "You better let him out!"
😂🤣 (i guess thats a Prince Albert joke? 😊) My Dad sd, "At my funeral, I want a recording of me SNORING played...rite behind me." 😀😂 My Daddy, my Best Friend, recently passed away. 💕🙏💕 Thx 4 reminding me of the fun we had. God bless, be safe😙😇💕
So sorry to hear about your dad, but it's nice you have so many wonderful memories with him.
This comment really made me smile, and then cry, and then go back to smiling
They have that joke in the original Steven kings IT and I never understood it until this comment lol
70 years ago, I found a fully stocked drug store in Custer South Dakota, and a home next to it, so I knocked on the door and if I could go in, he tool me in and what a bunch of stuff!
So sorry to hear about your daddy. He seems to be a very nice man.
They are often visited by Jeep guys going on the trails nearby. They are not abandoned :)
Jaekn
YES, and there was mining done there as late as the 90's!!
Todd Quigley
NOT JUST jeeps!! People in REAL trucks go 4-wheeling out there too! Those cabins are a nice stop-in before AND after we get done 4-wheeling up in the hills!!!
Thank you!! For this video 👍👍 love the Mojave desert....arriva!! Arriva!! Arriva!!! You rock!!
The first cabin definately Some one was there recently , sad to see and to think that many people lost jobs due to mine closing down, the photo of the oldish couple made me sad, i don't know y though , thamks for a great VID , God bless u
That cabin looks very clean for something that has not been lived in since 2016
Great video!!

This is where I live !!!! Good to see you explore the Mojave Desert, it's a gorgeous wonderland
2018 Dec. 31.
He's not smart, he can't even count sparkplugs either.
i noticed that too! i was a pressman & plate burner @ the Hi Desert Star for years when i was younger...cant help but notice anything having to do with printing
Glad to see you and your family out and about. First time in a long, maybe a year, I've watched any of your videos.
Unfortunately this is from 5 years ago
I think that first building was recently inhabited & probably come back from time to time. Big area to explore. Great channel 314K subs incredible.
Joe Brown at the front it had a paper titled rules of the cabin
JESSICA Shea you can see it at 1:57
Yea, had to Google it afterwards, apparently it's free to use for any hikers/overlanders on a first come first serve basis, just leave it as you found it and leave something for the next person. Supposed to raise the flag as well to let people know that it's currently in use.
Bingo
That’s not abandoned, there’s flowers in a vase in first building and in one of the others small fresh flowers in a small bottle on the window 🙄
The garden he refered to, is a native gourd plant that grows throughout the desert in higher elevations. Cyotees like to eat 'em but I wouldn't!
I've been watching your channel for two tonights now😍 thankful i found this kind of adventure 👍🏼 love this soooooo much guys ❤️
THIS. I respect this so much. FInding places like this are like gems. Id love to take over an abandoned shed/cabin and rebuild it. My garage is exactly like this. Only filled with 50-60-70s stuff. If id ever come over to the states on holiday, this is what my holiday would look like. Love what you do.
14:02 Count the spark plugs. They're a very good clue that it's a 6 cylinder engine, not a "straight 8". Sheesh!
I know exactly where this is. There's another camp close to that one. The gentleman is actually burried in that valley. And yes that place is watched and has been restored
One of your best videos for sure man. Sick spot. Love from England as per usual
This is a survival shelter/cabin for hikers and visitors. There are many cabins like this all over the Preserve. I stayed at this particular one before. Visitor put up the American Flag (you saw at the beginning of the video) when occupy the cabin overnight, take the Flag down before leaving the premise.
This dude really walk inside someone house 😂
Yes he did the people still live there, fyi they were out of town.
It's for all hikers .to come and leave as in .intended
Lmao yup
@@harley12327 are you serious???
Yep, clearly people have been in some of these cabins, not abandoned lol
The engine in the old truck was an inline 6 cylinder...only six spark plugs...the old water heater was manufactured about 7 miles down the road from my area in TN. I used to work there, STATE STOVE WATER HEATERS. Back then, they did not hire many women, but as my luck would have it, they hired me...a female...on the assembly line...GREAT video! Took me to an entirely different state and to an entirely different time! Keep up the good work!
LOL "I think we're on the right road." How often I heard my father say that. Thanks for the memory.
Thank you for not telling people locations. You’re right, they would just trash everything. Thank you for respecting things
Thank you for keeping the locale secret and safe!
This is a great find. Very happy that you do NOT reveal it's location. Anyone can just use Google Maps to research it's location, if they really want to know. I can already feel the solitude and quiet this location offered. Thumb's UP. Thanks.
Pretty good video guys, in England we don't really get abandoned homes let alone full towns.
Looks like a ghost woman drinking coffee looking out the window at the 8minutes :21 seconds mark on the right side of the frame as you walk by the doorway. I thought somebody was with you, but I didn't hear anyone else the rest of the time
Great as usual! Wish I lived in the area to explore as well. FYI Cabbage patch kids was in the 1980s.
70's
invented in 76 but sold commercially in the 80s lunch box would have been late 80s or early 90s..
I TOTALLY AGREE ABOUT THE VANDALS!
Keep doing what you do-YOU ARE AWESOME!
On 8:21 on the video you can see someone in white gown looking out the kitchen window and it looks like they are holding something while looking out.
I used snapped photo editor and lightened it up and enlarged it can't see details but definitely looks like someone holding a cup or something in front of the window
@@richvanek1363 thank you for checking it out, I thought I was seeing things.
Those plastic sheets were what the printers used to make the news paper on a daily basis. They were a negative, ink applied paper laid down pressed and wallah newspaper is printed.
I like to travel back in time and see how this find looked like...cool video.
Not sure if it’s depressing or a relief but these videos show the impermanence of everything.
Another awesome video and I think those white squares you were looking at lined against the wall as isulation may have been from a printing press for a newspaper? Like the templates they use to press the ink onto the paper, just my guess. Thanks again for the great video!
I think they were fixed to the rollers on a lithographic printing machine and were the masters for running the prints off.
A couple of years ago some went up and now the beautiful rocks has graffiti all over them destroying the whole atmosphere.
following from SICILY ...thanks man for sharing !!!!
At 4:58 that's an old Servel gas refrigerator, my dad showed me how to repair those back in early 60's, I'm 71 now!
18:05 Creepy chair again. I'm going to move all the stuff out except leave one chair. Why is there always a chair in every creepy shack? Great video EWU! How are you not at million subscribers yet? You find great places. Head south to Arizona soon!
It makes you realise just how small we really are when you look around!! Great video. I'd love to metal detect those places!!
I think that is one of those volunteer cabins that was restored for hikers
i remember storing my NCR armor here when I got over-encumbered
Gere Mining Cabin! A favorite rest stop for people exploring the desert.
Thanks for the respect. Wish more people would respect the old spots. You can always add items just don't remove stuff. When we all share it works for all. Happy trails!
Subbed. . Spent a couple hours searching for this place and I found it!. Secrets safe with me though. Cant wait to go!
This dude literally just walked into somebodies home that is clearly not abandoned and was like like “woah guys there’s food in here! isn’t that crazy?!”
Glad you're still at it. Hope you're being cautious.
Zen internet
I miss the Mojave desert from time to time. I spent the 80's and early 90's out there.
This is how based on a true story horror movies are made...
Did you check the floor for underground tunnels?
Awesome video. Thanks a lot.
New to your Channel love your videos keep up the good work been watching all your old ones found some good places
At 9:30, I think you walked right by the old mine adit (entrance) that has been blocked off by a wooden barrier to prevent people from falling in or thieving from it. The cabin you explored next was probably where they smelted the ore from their mining. Hence the stove that wasnt used to heat that building.
Have you ever gone into a place and someone is there?
Just ran across this video in one of my old Urbex/exploration playlists. I really miss the old Explore With Us channel! I hope the previous owners of this channel are doing well these days!
Simply the best exploring videos
on TH-cam!
Did anyone else notice what looked like a woman standing in the kitchen (looking out the window) on the right side of the video at 8:21 - 8:23?
you’re lucky the powder gangers didn’t interrupt your sightseeing bud.
The hills have eyes. I camped out in the desert near Nipton back in February. Definitely had the feeling I was being watched the entire time I was there. Very creepy feeling.
Really well preserved. Just wonder if a care taker watches over the land. They might have used generators for power. Great video.
