In my 4 years of crocheting, this is the first video I’ve come across where a man is teaching! I instantly subscribed lol.

This is the best oval tutorial I could find. Easy to remember, once you’ve done a few times, video was clear with instructions across the bottom to follow if you can’t crochet as fast as Louie! 10 stars from me.

I like the way you explain this, it makes sense. It's good to know the logic behind something, so that you can apply and adapt it, like 'teaching a man to fish' rather than 'giving a man a fish'! I love it, thank you Louis! You help a lot of people, what a lovely person you must be.

I'm new to the crocheting world and so I appreciate both the video and written instructions. A friend asked if I could make an oval basket, but more rounded. Yours was the only one that fit the bill. I finished a practice basket from your instruction and its gorgeous if I do say so myself. Thanks!

I searched and searched and searched for a video or pattern or ANYTHING that would make an oval without it rippling or curving like for making a purse or something and I FINALLY came across this and it was clear and concise and I finally got my oval! Thank you so much, definitely subscribed to check out your other stuff. :)

Thank you for creating this! Brilliant! I had no idea how to make an oval from a magic circle specifically. I hate chain ovals and a I am not sure that the chain oval would even give me the look that I am trying to create. It was easy to follow. I just started crocheting a little over 4 months ago, so I still need to learn a lot. This was perfect!

A hint from my crochet mentor, Rebbecca Matusek, when you thread a yarn needle, lay the yarn over the needle between the thumb and first finger. Close your space rather snugly and remove the needle. Now lay the eye of the needle horizontally over the space when the yarn should be and slide down while ever so slightly opening the space where the yarn is. This eliminates splitting yarn.

Ive found something. If you like a less extreme oval, start to increase the number of single crochets between each increase stitch (2,1,1,2,11,2) (2,1,1,1,2,1,1,1,2) and the proportion will closer to a circle. This is great for things like Boater hats which are only slightly elongated circles.

I can't seem to figure out the stitch pattern to continue with a 6th round. The increase "sets" always contain 8 stitches (2 1 2 1 2). Multiplied by 2 that's sixteen stitches, so the long sides in between would 13 stitches each??? By my calculations, this round should have 42 stitches and 42-16 = 26.

I really like this and the way the first 5 rows look when done! I would like to make about 6-7 more rows than you demonstrate, but am having trouble getting the pattern straight in my mind. Can you at least give me some row counts to aim for. From what you have row 1 has 6 stitches , 2 has 12 stitches , 3 has 18, 4 has 24, and 5 has 30. From this, I assume I add 6 stitches/row. Would the next row be: sc in first 4, inc, 1,2,1,2, sc in next 10, inc, 1,2,1,2 , sc in last 6? (36 total). And the next row I increase the sides to total 12 each to make the count (40) I Or am I totally off? Thanks.

I was a little confused. Does the number of increases increase each row? If so, the math on that seems wrong. For example, you could make a disk 100 miles in diameter using only 6 increases per row, every single row. Increasing the stitch counts by a factor seems like it would give you WAY too many stitches.

    • @AmandaHeyen
      @AmandaHeyen 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Can't watch the video, but I found a text version here:
      www.louiesloops.com/2012/10/let-them-eat-cake.html#
The first round after you create the first 6 in a circle, you have some extra increases in order to ease around the "corners" created by placing the six "circular" increases on the two ends.
The next round you work the increases on the ends again, but without the extra increases on the sides.
After that, you work the 6 increases on the ends, every _other_ stitch, and working 3 more straight stitches (no increases) on each "side" than you did the round previously.
If that doesn't make sense, try doing what it says in the text instructions and I can help later.

Louie's Loops Hi Louie - I like your instructions for the oval but I am a beginner and can't figure out the increase sequence. Can you help me out after Round 5? Thanks.

Louie's Loops Hi Louie - not sure you received my reply so I'm resending it. I really like your oval but I am a beginner and can't figure out the increase pattern past Round 5. I'm trying to make an oval tablecloth. The top of the table is 39" wide by 60" long and that does not include the overhang. If you have the full pattern I'd really like to have it. Can you help me please? Thanks
