You don't buy a OnePlus phone from China, you just buy one at any store in the US. Buying a Xiaomi or Huawei phone basically means importing it from China. OnePlus sells phones for the US market. Huawei and Xiaomi don't.

Zheng Zack I don't think so, there are various mistakes, in the beginning he says he first got the Chinese version and later the English version, but even in the Chinese version you can also always pick English as system language, it's not just only in Chinese - so he must be referring to that he later got the Global version. Also in the video it shows that he has the Play Store on the phone (and he is not saying it was missing, and he installed it) that's only included in the Global version. In the video I also don't see all the Chinese bloatware that usually is included, so he must be using it with the Global ROM and in that double tap power to start camera is possible in the settings.

121 Gado because the real money is on software and the information you can gather from it, not the hardware. That’s why Samsung wants to improve and push its apps while hardware is still relevant in order to brace themselves for the future. Also, though highly unlikely, what happened to Huawei can happen to any non American brand, Samsung saw the danger in its dependency from Google and is doing all it can to get rid of it.

Xiaomi ran a poll on their Twitter as to which their users preferred, MiUI or Android One. And Android One won by a landslide. Needless to say the phone they made with Android One didn't have all these little annoyances, but there are some people out there who definitely love MiUI.

I like MIUI more than touchwiz and the Sony thing.
Although I prefer stock android more because the settings are more minimal and there are fewer software gimmicks in between you and getting what you want done.
MIUI is pretty good and sort of takes the best from ios and puts it on an ok android.
Huawei and honor are a lot worse at this IMO.
Due to the warranty I’d really only recommend midrangers from them, but then it’s your choice between them or someone like nokia
DrekiTech actually the poll is in the international English forum, hence those ppl who use android are usually non iPhone for one reason or another, hence they will choose stock android, but if you put the poll in a China forum which whole population is more than enough for their consumption, the ppl there are used to iOS style look at Huawei and Oppo.
Bearing in mind their main market are in China, Caucasian countries and SEA countries are their secondary markets, hence they didn’t bother to develop another version for these and just slap a stock android phones.
So you have to see the target audiences when you review a phone but keyboard warriors oh well 😔
I'm one of them, the only thing I don't like about xiaomi is they copy apple too much, by that I mean the phone design.

I have a Xiaomi Mi A1: Headphone jack, Android One (No bloatware), best specs for the price range, English out of the box... For no more than 200$.
I have a Redmi 5 Plus. Bought for 160$, Global Version out of the box so 0 bloatware (only weather app, music player and IR blaster app all necessary, comes with playstore). For 160$ I got 4,000maH battery that gives 4 day on a charge and 8-10 hour screen on time, 21:9 display with small bezels. Great camera even compatible with Pixel's camera app to give the same results if you need, dual tone flash at the back and even a flash for the front camera, IR blaster, Great specs and 4GB Ram, 0 lag and plays every game and app as well as any expensive phone on them market right now. Meanwhile Linus "Why buy a Chinese phone", You get a shitty Samsung J7 for this price. OMEGALUL.

Yep. Even MIUI isn't that bad, I used it for months and honestly, it's one of the smoothest ROM's I have used, especially if you flash XIaomi.eu instead of the Global ROM.

It is so simple to get permission to unlock the bootloader and flash another MIUI variation, with less or no bloatware, or any other custom rom.
I'm sure he is well acquainted with those methods as well. It sounds like he ran into some issue when trying to do this that is not normal.
Not simple xiaomi has implemented compulsory wait time of up to 260hours before you can unlock.

You should see MIUI 10! The buttons are gone. It's gesture based navigation ala iPhone. You didn't mention the Xiaomi AI based battery saver which controls background applications. Also, the new MIUI 10 includes AI based photo processing.

I paid $150 for it and I love it. The only downside is the camera, but even tho I dont use it much its ok. In good light it makes decent 4k photos.
And the battery lasts 2-4 days for me. Awesome!

Dude, what era are you living in???? No Physical Button to launch the Cam App???? Which phone in today's time has it??? (out of the box). Do enlighten me. And thanks to MIUI, you can easily assign the Volume Button to launch that app.
And i am a big fan of MIUI because i still get updates for my 3 n half year old Mi3. No manufacturer supports their phone for such a long time with OTA updates.

The reasons that have kept me stuck with MIUI and never go back to any other version of Android are:
1. Out of the box call recording that also records calls received on Bluetooth.
2. Theming.
3. Security app that can disallow any app from using WiFi or Mobile data. Useful to get rid of ads for offline apps and being safe from extra billing.
4. Option to block all messages from strangers (numbers not in my contact list)
5. Option to block calls from strangers.
6. Second space.
7. Decent software updates.
8. You can login to second space simply by entering the pattern to second space or using another finger.. so others would never know you had two spaces at the first place.
9. Frequent phrases (in the 'paste' menu)
10. You can remove 95% of the bloat by simply uninstalling them.
And many more that I have forgotten.
I am a Hangouts user and I did have annoyance with the issue he mentioned but I simply disabled pop up notifications and that works pretty well so far.
I used to be a die hard fan of vanilla Android butt the peace brought to my life because of no spam SMS messages is something I cannot give up.
I too used to be a diehard fan for stock android but after getting the Poco F1, I'm in love with MIUI. It reminded me of the cyanogen experience I had in Oneplus One with the customization and many more.
I'm not a big fan of Miui, but it takes less than a minute to go on Google Play and install Microsoft Launcher. Then these phones become good for me, while keeping all of the features you mentioned.
People are seriously biased against MIUI without even trying it. Its days of being an iOS clone are long gone (and even then it was great looking and had useful features). It's fast, very polished in terms of design and hastons of features stock Android will never have. Ads? I've never seen one. Yes, it has some annoyances like the notification system is inferior to stock Android but it's not that much worse and MIUI 10 improves it a bit. If you don't like iOS style launcher, just grab the Poco launcher. I mean, MIUI has evolved so much it's unfair to dismiss it as just an ugly bloated Chinese Android skin.

The main reason i've bought Xiaomi phones through the years, is that they're cheaper than outdated and overpriced phones sold by com providers in my country and the battery life is mostly the double than other phones (having a redmi note 4 with 4k+ mAh at the moment), all the cons provided by Linus in this video are sooooo minimal, it's like he made a list of things that are ok *but let's show them as cons*.

I don't understand why most of the westerns underestimate the Asian UI, especially MIUI.
MiUI has so many customisations, featurea and shortcuts which is far better than other custom UI. Most of the problems you mentions can be fixed so easily. And to be real, MIUI latest updates were better security than even the stock android. And the MIUI users will loves the miui updates rather than the android updates for sure. To all those who insult it, I'm sure you never used MIUI for a month!!
And for the last, MIUI has the most biggest support forum, that you can share almost anything with the developers. Who on earth have a good forum like this? OxygenOS huh? Compare to miui forum, its nothing.
And also Xiaomi always give updates even to their oldest phones which are 4 years old.. There is no other UI as flexible as MIUI.

Ive seen Poco for £300, it's suppose to be sold for cheaper whilst Mix 2S is only £37 more and has a better camera and NFC, Brighter screen, no notch, wireless charging a lot more 4G frequencies etc, i don't think the Global ROM it out for Poco yet
iJamie8467x im buying the 256/8 with armoured edition. and poco has sd 845 and a liquid cool system. i dont need clear cameras because i use it for playing games and some netflix and sd 845 and liquid cooling system is just what i needed for gaming. i dont like brighter screen as well because it really hurts my eyes. as for outdoor i could see it crystal clear putting it half brightness. you can disable the notch btw

Half of the things he said annoyed him are totally bypassable. Like no dedicated hardware button for the camera. You can set up double pressing a volume button for insta-launching the camera app and then using the volume button for a shutter button. You don't have to accept permissions for the weather app for it to work. I have yet to see a phone with a PIN that let's you open and reply to notifications, it completely invalidates the point. You can do it without adding security options like PIN and fingerprint. The global version lets you install Netflix. I have a Mi Note 10 Pro and I had no idea what he's talking about half of the video. And there are a lot of other things that I don't feel like writing about right now. The point is... Almost all of the shit he mentioned can be tweaked or bypassed. Considering this video is from 2018... They changed a shit ton fuck of things on MIUI. It's really good now.
Watching this on my Mi Mix 1 6/256, almost for 2 years now and it still turn heads. It could be mistaken as a note 10 and im happy and super proud of it. That ceramic unibody with edge to edge super immersive screen is hard not to gaze onto.

I could buy a $300 zenfone 4 at the time using snapdragon 625 and decent spec all around. Or i can buy an old flagship, mi5s plus with Snapdragon 821 for the same price.
Since none are android one anyway, i go for xiaomi. And it has software issues indeed but I can't find a better phone at the same price. Redmi note 5 are cheap, has great camera but the processors are a downgrade if i use that.
I really don't get why you think MIUI is bad. Actually in China, MIUI is one of the biggest advantage of Xiaomi comparing to all other android phone makers. Xiaomi provided third-party android rom for brands like Motorola and Samsung before they made their own phones and those roms (early MIUI versions) were so popular at that time because they are convenient to use at that time. nowadays MIUI still has the fastest reaction time and the most various functions among all android roms.

You can't install netflix mainly because I guess that you are running miui 9 beta... And Xiaomi has not google play-protect (what ever crap it is called) signatured devices running beta... And btw the notification bug was cleared in software update. But all (including coming up bugs) will change when the miui 10 comes out, looking forward to see if that helps you 🙈

I own a mi mix 2s.. among many other phones. I'm quite the collector. Anyways though, I absolutely love it. It's one of my favorite phones of all time. Performance and speed it the biggest thing for me and the mi mix 2s is 110% on point. I find it to be faster than my Galaxy s9 plus, my one plus 6 and my iPhone x. It's even faster than it's more expensive counterpart I own the mi 8 explorer edition. Yes it does have some insignificant down sides to it but honestly they are quite easy to forget and let go for the price and performance your getting. Mi mix 2s is hands down amazing

Android TechGuy23 , I agree with you totally. I've got the S9+, a pixel 2xl , also had the op6, 8gb version, and in my experience the mi mix 2s is the fastest of them all. I also really like the swipe gestures you can activate which I think is the best swipe attempt of any Android phone so far. It however doesn't beat the iPhone X in that aspect. The biggest mystery of all is why the mi mix 2s is so underappreciated if you compare this phone to the op6 which I on the other hand think is way too overhyped. Guess the number of TH-cam reviewers matter a lot here.

I think Chinese phones a have big appeal to those of us who are savy enough to install custom ROMs but feel uncomfortable shelling out large amounts of money for a passable smartphone. Imo it is not economically worthwhile to spend $800+ every two years for a new smartphone. So if bang for your buck is your thing, and you are savy enough to use custom ROMs, Chinese phones have a great value proposition.
This isn't as related, but I've been been using my OnePlus 3 since release and it fulfills every need I have in a smartphone. It has decent battery life, a good camera, a speedy processor, a nice display, and a fast fingerprint reader. But most importantly for me, I have been able to customize the software to my heart's content. Despite having supperior hardware, I would not trade my OnePlus 3 for an iPhone X simply because of software.
this is pretty funny for me, almost none of the criticisms (folders, hangouts, hardware camera button, wake on lift) are about things i use even when i have them.

Ugh, the software problem will keep Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei and many others, from making any kind of meaningful penetration into North America. I get that they are trying to ape iOS. But in North America, people who like iOS will simply by an iPhone. They aren't going to move to an Android clone.

Altough i use a Xiaomi as my daily driver, and i love all types of Xiaomi products, i would not by their premium phones. But their cheap, medium-end line up is perfect for most people. Shout out to my favorite: The Mi A2 lite. With the power of a iphone 8 plus and larger battery than a iphone 11 and almost perfect software ( android one) with the cost of about 150 dollars in Sweden, i love it. LONG LIVE XIAOMI!

I bought my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 for 350€ on amazon. I have none of the software issues you stated. Either you have an old version of MIUI or the update has been exclusively for Europe. I bought the phone because to me the price to performance ratio seems unbeatable at the moment.

I think most ppl purchase the lower priced chinese phone rather than their high end one.
Why? It somewhat comparable to the more expensive non-chinese phone.
Plus with all the high end phones like samsung and apple pricing at above 1k to 2k, it just doesnt make sense to buy them anymore when most ppl out there does not uses all these extra power or features. Why pay for something you dont use? Most ppl just need a smartphone to do all the phone things, social media and maybe camera that is good enough.
