The keyway is the slot that the key fits into. The removable pice is called the “key”, not the keyway.

Makes sense that you can't just push in sleeves and go. Gotta make sure the bores are perfectly round, straight and perpendicular to the crank.

When you tapped on the keyway, the shaft seemed to go in significantly. If that was the crankshaft, you may have a problem with your thrust bearings being worn out. I am sure that this engine is put back together by now and that you are putzing around. You can check the endplay of the crankshaft of the engine assembled to see if this is the case. Additionally, replacement of the thrust bearings typically requires only the removal of a single main bearing so that you have access to the thrust bearings. Leaving them be if they are way out of spec (and maybe I saw incorrectly) can lead to seal failure (leaking oil) and in extreme cases engine seizing. Typically you get a seal leaking. Hopefully I am wrong, your engine is great, and life goes forward. Good luck and thank you for this video (I was about to do a cylinder swap on a Mitsubishi L-series diesel. Now I will check the new sleeves against the piston -before- I swap things out. Good luck.

Hi John Robinson. Thanks for the comment! Stay tuned for the next videos where you'll be able to see how the engine / tractor turned out.

I see that we have all the same problem with the diameter of the new sleeves ...

Anybody used a van Norman boring machine on Kubota block? Claim to bore a engine still in frame (s) machine to have vacuum to extract chips of metal as boring takes place. It would save hours of tear down. Thanks
