Have no problem with mobile phone ban during concerts, in fact I welcome it. Then people can be immersed in the experience of actually watching the show without looking through the screen of a phone. I suspect some sort of recording is happening during the tour for potenial live releases at later dates, that might be why there is a ban on phones.

No phones is awesome, having been to concerts since the 80s , it's about time people enjoy these shows. And if there is an emergency, every concert has EMTs right there to take care of them. This worked well in the area before cellphone and there's no reason to think it won't work now. People are too attached to their phone. And if they don't like it, don't attend. Just have to make the decision what's more worth to you: your cellphone dependency or experiencing an awesome show.

Don't go to concerts if you're going to be continually worried about "what if my child has a medical.." or "what if the police need to get hold of me". Stay at home worrying instead. It's only a few hours without your phone. We managed without them beforehand. I remember going to festivals in the 90s with no mobile phones. I'm still here. No emergency happened. Chill out 😂

@@XxJayMayerxX If your child has an emergency, it's up to the babysitter you've hired to take the action of calling 911 or driving the child to the hospital. That you'd hire someone so inept, you don't trust the individual to be able to take care of your kids just for a few hours while you're at a show tells me that you either should be more discriminating about the type of babysitter you hire, or learn to accept the fact that if a true crisis arises, even if you are called, you won't be able to be of any assistance unless maybe you're a medical professional and even then, the ambulance will arrive sooner than you could and the people in it will be more equipped to help.

The younger generation allows no time for curiosity to brew, demanding instant gratification, and killing their imagination. Curiosity and 2nd hand stories were the lures that created mystique surrounding some of the biggest bands in the world. Put the cell phones down and use the cameras you were born with on your face. Record it with the internet between your ears. If you ever want to re-watch it then you can just allow AI to download your brain because that technology exists and will become more prevalent to the next generation. The youth of today will one day say that they remember a time (now) when they were allowed to have personal experiences and think for themselves, and their kids will say nothing because the answer will already be known. Enjoy what you can while you can because right now is all you have.

No one in my way, and I could take photos and videos as much as I wanted without disrupting others.
Ironically I didn’t take as many photos as I usually do, but I did record 4 songs rather than just two.

Call from the lobby to check up on people at home, if you must. The more important point is: Why have you allowed yourself to become so dependent on your phone that you cannot function just like all of us in the 20th century did? It really did work exceptionally well. People felt more free then because they hadn't become dependent on a gadget in much the same way an infant is dependent on a pacifier.

Solution to the no phones issue.. have an official video of the entire concert available for anyone who has a ticket free of charge. Seems a simple solution to me though I am sure some people will have issues with it. Think of the quality though.. especially if it were done professionally with audio direct from the soundboard instead of in the middle of the crowd.
For purists, however, I do see one valid issue.. if an official recording were made then the vocals could be altered in post... so you might not get full live audio 'as it actually was' and instead get some computer modified sounds instead (autotune???) That would be the only issue I would have with the idea.

Artist manager here, also working with stage production. If there were easier ways to implement prohibiting concert-goers from using their phones during shows, I would be first in line in a heart beat. We put a lot of thought into the aesthetics of our shows. The intro goes on, 600 phone screens light up the room. Latin America is the worst offender, 90% of the filmers also have the light on, revealing every single detail of the stage before the band even goes on. It actually really warms my heart to see almost all comments here being about support for phone camera bans. Stop ruining shows with your egotistical behavior. Show respect to the other ticket goers who also paid a lot for their tickets and who prefer to watch the band playing rather than a sea of mobile phone screens. If you insist on filming, stand in the back and make sure you're not blocking anyone.

Here's my take on the "No Phones" thing, and why it frustrates me. I'm not someone who has my phone out the whole show. In fact, it practically doesn't exist to me when I'm at a show. I'm there to enjoy the performance first and foremost. However, I like to snap a couple of pictures at the beginning and end of the show, and maybe during an interlude, like the Ghouls dueling guitars during a costume change or something. As an example, the last show I went to, I took maybe 6 pictures total the entire time once I was in my seat. I like to have that memory as a time capsule.
Where I agree that filming the entire show is a problem and disruptive to everyone (it's something that has always irritated me), and that measures should be put in place to curb that, I think it sucks to not be able to have a little memento of the night when you paid a ridiculous amount to go to the show, and for a lot of us, saved up for a long while to be able to go. And especially if you're like me and aren't disruptive about it and don't have your phone in your hand the whole time.
Also, as you said in the video, on a much more important note, that's a bad idea because the phones won't be able to be used in the event of an emergency, either. It's a bad policy. And I'm kind of disappointed to hear that Ghost has adopted it.

It's actually NOT their right to film shows. The laws prohibiting recording devices during live events has never changed. And the "what about emergencies?" is weak. People were attending concerts for decades before cell phones and survived.

As far as I've understood, these phone-free shows will use signal blocking bags (presumably handed to concert goers when entering the venue) where you're to put your phone before getting in the actual concert hall proper. You'll keep your phone on you, but just can't use it during the gig. Should also be possible to go out of the hall and take the phone out once outside and then put it back when going back. Not sure exactly how securely those bags are sealed and how the phone ban is enforced if someone decides to break out their phone during the show, though.

Back in 1980, there was a triple bill at The Orpheum in Boston of Def Leppard, Scorpions and Judas Priest. My brother in law was a bouncer at that show. I didn't make it to that show, but I went , in 1981, to The Orpheum, to see Judas Priest with Iron Maiden (with the late Paul Di'Anno and Clive Burr) on Priest's Point Of Entry and Maiden's Killers tour.

What I do have a problem with is the dynamic pricing that they had, which is the reason I didn't end up getting a ticket. problem with making a quick video and photos to share on social media where you are / memories etc. But be discreet! It’s also not an age thing - I went to see The Stranglers last week (where the average age was 50+) and at least 40% were constantly filming with their arms held as high as possible to film over the people in front of them. Instead of experiencing and celebrating a great Pop Punk band that have been around for 50 years for ‘real’, I saw most of the gig through other peoples phone displays… 🤷‍♂

I used to love being at metal concerts before the days of smartphones and then anticipating the release of the tour video which I would buy. I dislike standing in a sea of phones nowadays but also find I now have to also video the concert because as someone who is barely 5’8” in heels I struggle to see above the crowd anyway but even moreso when everyone is holding their phones aloft. It also seems that nowadays bands dont release live videos anymore, probably because there is no market when everyone has filmed the show on their phones. So now I find more and more that if I dont use my phone I miss most of the show. I would prefer it if the standing area was phone free but think usage of phones in the tiered seating would not be such an issue. So if you want to film, buy seated tickets.

Galvanise is a fairly common word still used in the English language today. Whilst not always used these days as per the exact dictionary meaning, it is more commonly used these days as a term to 'bring people of similar ideas together' . For instance, if there is a problem at your work where a number of different groups of people are pissed off about something, possibly for different reasons, someone might say 'we need to galvanise the various groups in order to speak to management about the problem'.

I think there is nothing wrong about making a few photos or videos to have a nice memory to watch again later and share with friends and family, but I don't get those people making videos and photos all the time, watching the entire thing through their phone or even start to go completely crazy and hysterically trying to get their phone as highest or nearest to stage just to get the best tiktok video and don't care about their souroundings...
I am so glad that within the metal scene this isn't happening so much as in pop and other mainstream genres, at least from what I expirienced (no elitism intended, just my own expirience!). Regarding the Ghost tour, I don't know if I could choose a side. I totaly get that they don't want to perform in front of a completely hypnotised crowd, and I don't realy count the point that "what if you need to reach someone" because as far as I understand there are certain ereas outsite of the audience were you can use your phones.
Remember guys, not so long ago, there were no smartphones and people managed to survive^^
But I see the point with the ticket prices and I think your personal freedom to choose how to attend and enjoy a concert shouldn't be limited as long as you don't bother others or couse any disturbance or violence with your behavior, especialy if you paying so much for tickets and merch these days.

I can totally understand why Ghost chose this path. I mean, I normally take a couple photos of every concert I'm going to as a small memory for me (which results in me holding my phone up for an estimated 5 seconds, becore putting it away again; and that probably a couple times throughout the show), but especially with artists with a big fanbase in the Tiktok-communitiy, you always have loads of people who're just filming everything, thus annoying everybody around them.
So yeah. As a 21 year old, I welcome this very much.
I mean, it's also kinda sad that you even have to enforce this rule. I normally go to Metal concerts, where this happens way less.

I might use cell phone, but ONLY if the band allows it and I still, usually, won't do it unless for their promotion. If you have an emergency, do beepers still exist? We lived without technology prior to phones; why not now? I agree with you, ENJOY THE SHOW! They might consider reducing ticket prices too. I've been seeing many cover bands this year for pretty cheap and I get front row seats; it's just as good (if not better than) the original and I get to talk to the band afterwards. I considered front row for Scorpions, but not sure I'll do it...I saw their "farewell" tour in 2010 with decent sears, I just enjoy Jabs playing more than anything. God bless.

I once went to see John Mulaney and it was a no cell phone show. It wasn't the end, but no photos or videos are really wanted or needed for a stand-up comedian. However. I love to take a few photos during concerts that I'll have to reflect upon the show later down the line and film one or two of my favorite songs. Like when I went to see Iron Maiden a few weeks ago and was able to record a couple minutes of the first time I ever got to see them play Stranger in a Strange Land. So, I don't agree with Ghost's choice to ban cell phones from this tour and while I love Ghost and have seen them several times, I will not be paying to attend this next tour.

I think Ghost should consider the average age of many metal fans... a lot of us are in the "sandwich generation"- people who have children and elderly parents to care for. I saw Iron Maiden last month. Didn’t take a single photo or video. Just enjoyed the music..
I do get annoyed about all the phones however, I do enjoy watching the full concert vids in TH-cam sooo.
There, maybe should be a video person that films. All concerts and post them on a TH-cam channel full Setlist no edits. ..
Then, that would probably make it so many people like myself. Don’t have to scout TH-cam to find videos of certain tours…
How did they reach someone in any emergency cases back in the day without Cell phones? What was the response time back, then versus with Cell phones?
Those kind of things need for the research and see if it’s actually beneficial for emergencies to have a cell phone and a crowded concert.. I highly doubt there’s any faster of response time due to many factors, including a big crowd, and people have ing to mow their way throughthere….

I dont have a problem with wanting no phones at shows on the surface, but all the venues in my area are cash free. People use their phones as a payment method. If you can't buy drinks at the bar, the venue will be missing out on that revenue. Is that just going to make shows even more expensive. Also imagine 10k+ people all wanting the bag unlocked at the end of the show at the same time. I could see hours of lineups just to leave the venue. That would be a nightmare. Just a couple thought off the top of my head. 🤘🤘 on a side note how do you call it a North American tour with no Canadian dates?
