this is the last nightwish show with Tarja (end of an era 2005). she was the first vocalist and she's amazing! now, she has a spectacular solo career! I don't understand why Floor fans always criticize their videos or songs, I don't like that. I'm not going to criticize Floor's videos. I feel that those fans get very angry when people do not react to Floor videos but they should recognize that NW had another era and another singer for many years and already sang many songs that Floor sings today. This entire show is the best, I recommend you: wishmaster, slaying the dreamer, phantom of the opera, ever dream, nemo, planet hell, etc.
Sorry to correct you but what you are saying is complete nonsense, almost all Floor fans speak very respectful about Tarja, and praise her for her excellent contribution to Nightwish. They always respect the old fans who prefer Tarja. IMHO i think its more a problem of some of the old Nightwish fans who prefer Tarja who feel very frustrated when they see so many thumbs up when new reactors or people writing comments saying they prefer Floor. Hope you stop using words as criticizing Tarja in the future when talking about the majority of the Floor fans. (Ofcourse there will always be nasty people who love to insult people , I advice you to just ignore them, I remember a Tarja fan writing down about the last notes of Floor in GLS writing it wasn,t singing but screaming , to be honest it made me laugh, not taking it serious)
@melisa herner...I am a Floor fan but I also love the earlier albums with Tarja and some of the live with Tarja too. For instance, for me Nemo is and always will be a Tarja song. Floor does it well but for some reason did not do her usual and make it her own. and for that I will be grateful..Tarja's voice is perfect for it live or studio. I think that all three female vocalists brought something unique to Nightwish, and I think that it will keep evolving. Love this band, they literally saved my sanity. Peace out.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2005 in the"End Of An Era" concert, in Helsinky, Finland, then with Tarja Turunen, the first female singer of the band. This was also Tarja's last concert with the band, she was fired immediately after the show, with an open letter. Bitter-sweet memories..
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful vocal performance of Tarja and the high level of musicianship of the entire band. Hope you'll try some more.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

If you and wife like operatic sound in metal then maybe you should react to Phantom of the Opera Nightwish cover..
Nightwish is a Finnish band that started in 1996. The band has 9 studio albums, the first 5 were recorded with Tarja, the woman you just heard. The second vocalist is Anette, who recorded 2 albums, and the current singer is Floor, who has also recorded two albums so far. The three vocalists have completely different voices and styles, but each one is good in its own way. Because of the different vocalists, if you want to know the band's catalog, it would be nice to explore the different eras. The five albums with Tarja are influenced by Gothic metal, power metal, symphonic music and folk music. Since Anette the band has been concentrating on elements of symphonic metal and folk music. Tarja left the band in 2005, at the time when TH-cam didn't exist yet. Most of the videos of live performances with Tarja were posted by fans. Some have good recording quality, but others do not. As for Anette, despite being less old than Tarja, it is more difficult to find good live recordings from her. Regardless, Anette has a better ability in the studios than live. Floor has been an official member of the group since 2013 and it's easier to find videos of her with better recording quality. A lot of them were posted by the band itself. When reacting to Nightwish, it would be nice if you heard the versions recorded with the original singers and the current versions with Floor. The same song is quite different depending on who is singing, either because of the different voices and styles, or because of the changes that the group makes to adapt the old songs to the newer singers. I love Tarja's era. Tarja is my favorite of the three. I love her voice. I would like to suggest one more performance of this same show (DVD End of an era). Original and my favorite version! ❤️❤️ The focus of this song is the orchestra and the choir, but after 2012, it is no longer focused on that, it was focused only on the voice, which for me made it lose its grace.

Although Tuomas (on keybords) composed the music and wrote the lyrics, the vocal arrangements were created by this singer Tarja Turunen (pronouced: Tarya Turunen), and as you pointed out her voice is more classical infused ("operatic"), it is actually a really Big dark and Loud voice so the backround choir and instruments were in fact much louder in this original version compared to the latter ones (with the other 2 Nightwish singers that came after), and even nowadays Tarja really enjoys to harmonize with her own backing vocals. For exemple, in January of 2020 instead of having them pre-recorded (like on this video) she actually had 3 backround singers for her more recent Bucharest and Prague concerts (filmed for a future Dvd).
In the case of "Ghost Love Score", with this singer, Tarja, the final climax goes to the orchestra and choir as she gives a lot of space for the other parts to shine, while their current singer (Floor Jansen) decided to give her own twist to the song and I think she also did it really well but it gives me tottaly different vibes compared to this one, so I actually like Both: in my opinion Tarja shines more in the first half of the song, while Floor puts more effort in the second half (fortunately I've got the chance to see both Tarja and Floor Live in concert, and both were amazing, but Tarja impressed even more I may say)...
Overall the sound of this Live version of "Ghost Love Score" matches much more with the album's original concept for it, and you can hear much more details in the mix, as you will notice if someday you'll hear the newer versions.
Out of curiosity, this was already the 14th song of this concert setlist, and Tarja went for a small pause and wardrobe change at the end, she would eventually come back to sing other four songs. If you want a great nightwish song finalle with Tarja & Marco (the bassist) in FULL POWER it is definetly their duet in "The Phantom of the Opera" Live at the End of an Era (this same concert). BUT I would recomend you to watch firstly a more recent live performance by Tarja, where she sings not only in classical style but also mixes different techniques and creates a really theatrical effect (It's a Muse Cover btw): th-cam.com/video/wmMBI_0X3oE/w-d-xo.html ;

Great reaction. Like others have told, this was their first singer, Tarja Turunen. Their current (and third) singer is Floor Jansen. Most fans today prefer that reactors do live videos with her, but I love to see these older videos also, and I really love their old studio albums as well.
I'm an old fan since 1998, and I will always miss this line up, and their unique sound. Big part of it was Tarja's dark and dramatic voice. I do love new Nightwish also, but there was certain magic on this, and I also love that it was fully coincidental. It is crazy that this small Finnish town happened to have this metal Mozart, Tuomas Holopainen (keyboardist and main songwriter) and Emppu Vuorinen (guitarist), and Tarja, and that they ended up to found this band together. What Tuomas had planned was totally different from this song thou. Tuomas' idea was, that they will play acoustic mood music, and that they will never do gigs or tours, just a demo or maybe an album at some point. So Tuomas and Emppu just happened to get together, and Tuomas knew Tarja from past, so they asked her to come to sing on their demo. But guys didn't know that Tarja's voice had changed to something this powerful after their teenage years (due to her classical training), and they were bit in shock. Then Tuomas thought, that they should try to write something more powerful for her, so they added distorted guitars, bass and drums, and the rest is history.
They recorded their first demo in 1996, and second demo in 1997. That second demo became their first album, because record label wanted to publish it as it is. On this point they had got Jukka Nevalainen on drums. He was a good friend with Emppu since childhood, so one more happy coincidence, because Jukka is incredible drummer and his drumming style and stage presense was a big part of Nightwish' sound. He is my all time favorite drummer. Sadly he had to step a side from drumming duties in 2014, because of severe insomnia and migraine headaches, and his good friend Kai Hahto (ex Wintersun) took his place. Kai is even better technically and faster, but IMO he can't replace Jukka's sound and energy.
In 1998 they recorded their second studio album Oceanborn, and when I heard it first time, I was sold in seconds. On this album they already got Sami Vänskä on bass, who was their bassist on 3rd album (Wishmaster) also. Sami also plays on their first live DVD "From Wishes To Eternity" (recorded in December 2000). You can find a good quality version of it on my channel's playlists. After their Wishmaster tour Sami was replaced by Marko Hietala, because of Sami's lack of motivation.
So Marko was on bass and doing male vocals since Century Child album, and while I loved Tarja's vocals even more on their early albums (more dramatic, more operatic), Marko brought another dimension to their songs. Marko is very good bassist and incredible singer. But Marko announced very recently, that he will step a side now. He has been in rock scene over 30 years, and he has some mental issues. He also wants to spend time with his family. This is huge loss for the band, but of course Marko's health is more important.
Anyway, It was so much fun to watch their journey to world success, but then the worst thing happened after this 2005 concert, they fired Tarja. For years they had their dissensions, and finally guys made that decision, that Tarja has to leave. It would have happened after next album in anyway, because Tarja had already told, that she will go, but guys chosed to humiliate her with an open letter. Big mistake, which I will never understand. Very immature and childish. Tuomas' was just so pissed about Tarja's leaving, about her husband manager interfering everything, and that this band was not as important to Tarja than it was for him. Maybe he was also jealous to Tarja's husband, because many songs they have from this era seem like they were written to Tarja. Impossible love, forbidden love, one-sided love. Many of their songs can be understood that they were about Tuomas and Tarja, and that Tuomas had romantic feelings for her.
After Tarja came Anette Olzon. Her voice was totally different, much more contemporary and even poppish. I lost my interest to this band, because I couldn't feel anything. After years have passed, I have started to tolerate and even like Anette, and I regret that I abandoned them, but contrast was too big for me back then. Anette was also a good singer, but her voice couldn't handle touring too well, and her range was not for these old Tarja's songs, and she really struggled with them at live. Then Anette got pregnant in wrong time, and they would have had to cancel their Imaginaerum tour, but guys wanted to continue with replacement singer. Anette didn't accept any replacement, so guys fired her. This was also just the "last drop", and they had their problems long before this. Marko has told that basically Anette whined herself out of the band.
So this is where Floor stepped in. There is a great documentary "Please, Learn the setlist in 48 hours", refering to the situation where Floor came in. She only had 48 hours to learn the setlist. I let the others explain more about Floor, when you get there.
Great summary for those who know nothing without Floor. The orchestral ending with the choir is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in my life.

Any song that NW does is an epic adventure. They are a symphonic metal band. New sub.
This song is very symphonic metal. When compared to conventional popular music these days, this song has more strongly defined sections (movements) like a traditional orchestral symphony would have.
I have my personal favorites, but Nightwish "Storytime" is another amazing song of theirs to try when you are new to the band. It's just a song that gets you more hooked then you already are.
Especially the Wacken version 😊 It's solid gold. 🥰

everyone knows Floor, she's super popular with everyone, especially right now, and is a really good singer, having a huge variety of singing capability (pop, classical/opera, belting, growling/raspy), able to sing nightwish's old songs that were for Tarja's classical/opera singing, as well as new songs for her own variety/range of singing abilities
Unfortunately for Annette, she's a pop/rock singer, and a very good singer too, but her pop/rock singing just didn't go that well with nightwish's music, which was made for Tarja's dark classical/opera singing. So, usually, she gets left out.
so, it comes down to "Targasm” (Tarja) vs “Floorgasm” (Floor) in terms of the Nightwish singers in who you like most, if you like classical/opera singing better, Tarja is better at it, but that's all she does while with nightwish, as nightwish was created for tarja's unique dark operatic singing/voice, (now with her own band, or solo, she does a greater range of singing), but she does it really well, she's really got a beautiful voice, if you like more pop singing, belting and growling/raspy, with or without classical/opera singing, than you like Floor better
I knew nightwish from the early 2000s, so Nightwish will always be with Tarja, but Nightwish with Floor is really good too, but it's Tarja, who's my favorite singer with nightwish

@@nicod1361 Well she is adds pop techniques and she is a somewhat pop singer as well and it should not be taking as an insult more of a compliment because Tarja does also adds some pop techniques to her voice more ROCK-ish style which is totally fine because it sounds beautiful either way. For is not an opera singer she is a classical singer. What floor does is not opera but not an insult.

I second those who suggested anything from the Wacken or Tampere shows as well. The current singer, Floor, shines in both. Wherever you venture next, I personally suggest you save 'Poet and the Pendulum' and 'Greatest Show on Earth' for later in your journey -- they pack more punch once you get to know the band's story.

The #1 most frequent thing said about Nightwish is along the lines of "I was not expecting that"! Even after listening to many songs as they are so different. Sadly, this was not only the final concert of this tour, it was also Tarja's final night with Nightwish, being fired after this great event. Until this year I would say that Thankfully we have Floor.... But, sadly again, Marco (bass, vocals, occasional guitar and some song writing) has, hopefully temporarily, resigned. Nightwish is a LIVE band, studio recordings are good, but live are best! Enjoy your journey down this most wonderful rabbit hole! So much awesome to come!

Great reaction. Yes this is their first vocalist Tarja Turenen. More operatic in style. This is what attracted me to Nightwish in 2003, Tarjas vocals. I love her accent, gives this song a magical, ethereal feel. Her voice over the choir. I also love current singer Floor Jansen, who gives this more emotion. The choir isn’t as loud, allowing Floor to do her thing. I love both versions of this between the singers, each owning it, in their way. I love how Tarja leaves the stage here to change her wardrobe in this concert, it allows the band an epic jam. Floor sings the finish, holding a note, giving it more heart. I feel the bands sound is a bit better here though, as it’s in the Hartwall. And I love Jukka on drums.
Sorry but Floor just belts through the song and makes it sound so shallow. This is a NIGHTWISH song and not a Floor song. The band has a moment to shine at the end which is what makes this song a masterpiece. The original will always be better than Floor's cover.

If you like Tarja, I'd recommend their concert From Wishes to Eternity. The Pharoah Sails to Orion, Wishmaster, Kinslayer, and FantasMic if you want faster, "Hard Rock" songs. Swanheart, Walking in The Air, Deep Silent Complete and Dead Boy's Poem if you like more beautiful, ballad type songs (like Ghost Love Score).
The Phantom of The Opera, Everdream, Planet Hell and Sleeping Sun from the same concert as this video (End of An Era) are also an absolute delight.

From the comments you have received allready I guess you have figured out Nightwish fans are quite passionated. Some like Tarja, who performed here, best. Perhaps because she was the original vocal. Others like the current vocal, Floor Jansen, better. I'm not going to tell you what to like but you should take on a song with Floor next so you can see/listen for yourself.

Nightwish is amazing. You have been given alot of songs by their big fan base. Here are three mind blowing artists with ever growing fans, always looking for new reactors to see their shock. First up is Dimash, the normal starting point is "S.O.S". (french) just focus on the singing, you can watch it with subtitles later. Next comes Angelina Jordan, I would start with "I Put A Spell On You". Last one is Diana Ankudinova, "Wicked Game". You should also show your wife Amira Willighagen singing "O Mio Babbino Caro" at age 9 on Holland's Got Talent, make sure it's the version for English speakers because what the judges say before and after she sings is important for context and also Darci Lynne same song on America's Got Talent Champions finals. Now I found you by your reaction to Voctive. So here are some other A Capella groups you may not have heard of. Acapop Kids "Fix You", Eclipse 6 "BTS Boy With Luv" cover, and two college A Capella groups of note BYU Vocal Point "Nearer My God To Thee" and the all female BYU Noteworthy "Amazing Grace". I also recommend Peter Hollens who does A Capella with himself and everyone else, if there was a record for number of collaborations he would win it hands down. If you haven't already heard of him, start with "Disney Sidekicks Medley" or "Star Wars Medley". You would run into him eventually. That's enough to get you going.

That ending always had a climax, just not the same that Floor does. We enjoyed this song years before there was *Floorgasm™* . Don't get me wrong, I love Floor's version, but I also love this original, and that ending with orchestra and choir is epic even without Floor.

Great reaction! But Tarja (vocalist) is not in band now, she is solo artist now, I love her music so much, she has rock/metal songs but also she has classical album and classical concerts. You should react something from her solo stuff, she singing not only operatic.

Is amazing cover version of this song by japanese symphonic metal band Liv Moon (oh, and Nightwish is also symphonic metal band), they have amazing classical training singer with very beautiful voice and really big vocal range. Just found you, this a little off subject. You should react to Lovebites, a good start would be "Shadowmaker" official MV and Aldouis with "We Are". To answer a couple of your questions in regard to the Koreans and Japanese use of English. They for the most part use English to make a point that works in English but does not work in Korean or Japanese. Also it is a lyrical flow thing. Interesting thing is Japan is Kpop's #2 market so the major groups make MV's in Japanese with the Rap lyrics in English. One more suggestion, checkout the Kpop group Blackpink they have 4 MV's with 1 billion+ views, 2 starters "Boombaya" and "How You like That"'.

Alright brother. Here's another that will mess with your mind (a lot). I'm going to describe this a little, ONLY to intrigue you. A female, black, Swiss singer in a symphonic power metal band that has a voice you might find similar to Tatiana. I'm not trying to compare the two as they are different. BUT. She had remarkable cleans, her screams are awesome, and like Tati, she is a very humble, down to Earth person who will do her best to take your heart. She's done a lot of work already, but just put out the first album for HER band, Ad Infinitum. Start with "Marching on Versailles". It's a bit like Jinjers Pisces in that it's not their best by any means, but it gives you a bit of both sounds. Good starting point. You will NOT be sorry!

No worries. 😅 But if you like heavier stuff, then there are heavier songs from Nightwish and heavier bands like Epica. 👍😉 And Nightwish with Floor Jansen sounds a bit different. Try Yours is an Empty Hope, Weak Fantasy, Master Passion Greed, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean (with Floor), Romanticide (with Floor), for example. They are more "metal"... 👍

You have started with the original singer, so I would suggest you take 2 - 3 more with her, before you move on to the Wacken 2013 concert - just to feel the natural evolution a band runs through. The Wacken is mostly old songs, but when the new and current singer Floor came on board, Nightwish started an evolution, because of Floor's style and versatile voice - which becomes obvious in the later concerts (Wembley, Tampere 2015 and Buenos Aires 2018) - where Floor's versatility is the a main component.
By the way - Nightwish will completely change your view of long songs - just saying.
But for now:

And take the Tarja versions - you will come to Floor's versions later on, and the are not comparable, so please don't compare.
I know I haven't mentioned Anette's æra, but if you want something from her, choose a studio version - or skip her Nightwish time and go for her new songs from Dark Element - Anette is awesome here.
