Lol! Keep in mind, he's undercover within Cobra... In 1993. Alongside folks like cyborg Dr. Mindbender, Gristle and the Night Creeper Leader. He'd blend in perfectly with his helmet-mounted missile launcher and yellow weapons.
I always wondered how intelligence worked with G.I. Joe. In my opinion Cobra had the best intelligence operatives in the whole vintage line: Zartan, the Baroness, Storm Shadow, at least those guys were dressed for the occasion.
Great review. 1989-94 was my Joe era so I really enjoy these figures, bizarre as they are. It's shame most have been skyrocketing in value lately due to speculators.
09:30 I don't think having the gun mount to the helmet is a terrible idea to have a removeable shoulder cannon for GI Joe sized action figures, but boy howdy this isn't how you execute that idea lol.
Mace was the final figure I bought from the GI Joe line as a kid. It had been a while since I had picked up a new figure. I was kind of on the edge of being too old for action figures. The local grocery store had a little tiny section where they sold toys like cap guns and stuff. They happened to have a case of Joes fresh on the pegs and I decided to spend my allowance on one.
Mace, Bulletproof and Longarm were all names used in the toy/cartoon series COPs. The figures were made by Hasbro and had very similar construction including an o ring. I guess when the brand ended Hasbro took several of the names back and used them as G.I. Joe's. Mainframe was also a character taken from GI Joe and used in COPs she was a female tech specialist.
Great review. My son looked at Mace's rocket launcher and said it would either cause whiplash, a concussion or facial burns. I think Mace became the pilot of the Locust helicopter.
Never knew about this figure until now. I like his pants and his jacket. In real life, he should be a little plain looking. The face sculpt I can live with, it's all those bright yellow details and gold accessories that spoil it. I would have been 10/11 years old when this figure came out. I remember even then that I didn't like unrealistic colors and neon paint applications on my toys - I wanted my toys to reflect their real-world counterparts as much as possible. I've never subscribed to the idea that toys have to be "toyetic".
He undercover as a COBRA mercenary. COBRA has some crazy looking uniforms by this time in the line: H.E.A.T. Viper - High-Explosive, Anti-Tank; Cobra bazooka trooper are a good example. He hangs out with Major Blood, Firefly, & Zartan who look cool but he also has to hang with Big Boa, Crock Master & Raptor. I mean who look more crazy, a man dress as a bird or a guy with a RPG weapon system fixed to his head.
I have to say this... this is the Best intro so far by Hoody! Brah I almost cracked a rib laughing at this shiiii. LOL “why is my lightsaber blue?” LMBO!
The figure is rather nice, minus having a bit too much yellow on the chest. If I'd get him someday I'll just keep him as a part of the DEF team. You should try comparing the file cards to the Australian ones, as Mace and the other canned DEF figures were released as DEF figures as planned there. Nice review overall.
I like this figure too. I actually wrote a short shorty that I was going to submit to Kindle Worlds before it folded that would have included Mace as being undercover in a crime syndicate that uses those high-tech helmets..
I loved the intro! It was your best yet. I thought that I saw all of the stupid looking things the 90's brought. The missile launcher on the helmet did it for me. I generally like the odd things, but that was too much for me.
Actually, I always considered Mace the best of GI Joe's undercover operative figures. Why? Because he's actually dressed to go undercover. I mean neither Lady-Jaye or Chuckles could pass as members of Cobra. Not unless you took a Cobra figure and pretended it was one or the other of them in disguise, as I often did with Zartan and Zarana. But Mace? Nothing about his intentionally nondescript black jacket and khaki pants necessarily looked US military. In fact, he could easily pass as a Cobra or at least a mercenary in their employ. Even the ridiculous headgear works as something Cobra might use in the 90s, while furthering his disguise by concealing his face if you wished. Sure, I would have preferred the weapons in black, but he still works for me in a way that Chuckles never did back then.
If Hasbro had produced a Chuckles version 2 in the vintage line, I would have gladly bought it. The original Chuckles was a favorite of mine, who would go on dangerous missions working undercover to undermine Cobra at every turn. Mace's sculpt is pretty decent when compared to other 1993 action figures. In fact, Hasbro reused his mold (minus the head) in 2004 to make Double Clutch version 2. In proper military green and with the right head sculpt, this version of Clutch is one of my favorite reuses of a vintage mold.
The missile launcher attaches to the helmet. Oh no, GRRRRR...! Who do it?! Must find and smash! No! Must...do...nice...things! Whew, I’m glad I got myself back under control!
Hmm, y'know Mace is an anagram for Acme. Maybe the name is an in-joke for someone who, the only way they could realistically be undercover was in a Looney Toons cartoon? Just a thought...
Even if Mace wasn't Chuckles number 2, Mace could been an brother, partner or something to tie Chuckles to him some how? As always, great review Commander!
HCC788, in the 90s Hasbro, included the weapon trees with the figures why did they use colors other than Black or grey? I don't know if you had touched on this in the past, If you knew the reason could you explain the thought behind Hasbro's decision. Thanks for the hilarious opening and great review.
9:56 I will give them credit for actually making a way to hold these giant oversized spring weapons, unlike for example, Barricade's spring weapon, a combination rocket launcher/gatling gun, which he's supposed to support with wrist strength alone. MACE is destined for a life of neck surgeries, but it could work...once!
11:54 The only place that would be a good idea would be Cobra...I mean, Metalhead has all kinds of missiles on his body, maybe that was their logic, he tries to get recruited by Cobra as a replacement for Metalhead?
Funny as its yet another DEF lineage figure to borrow a name from the Hasbro C.O.P.S as that line had Mace as well as Bulletproof. And one figure was supposed to be the son of Beachhead!
Shh I’m undercover!!! FSsssHHHHHWWWWWoooooooooooooooooMmmmmm (rocket fires off top of head and blows up a wedding that a suspected cobra operative was attending.
I'm a few years younger than Hoodie, and didn't get into GI Joe until around the '88 time frame. By '93, I was way past done though. Plus, I started chasing girls and just being a teenager - so, the death of Joe, was good timing for me.
Great review of a not so good figure. I'm sorry, but the helmet mounted rocket launcher, especially one that size, the recoil would have snapped Mace's neck like a twig the first time he fired it! That's why he wasn't in the cartoon or comic book. He died off screen or off panel in one of the battles. And how is he undercover with all that bright yellow? Does Cobra have an entirely blind division we don't know about? Or does the scene play out more like this: (Cobra soldier) Sir, look! That guy with the bright yellow weapons is getting close to our operation! Do you think he's a spy! (Cobra officer) Use your head, soldier! What spy in his right mind would be carrying weapons like that? (Later... Cobra Commander) How did nobody spot a spy that infiltrated our operations! I'm surrounded by incompetence!
Lol!!!!!! I watched the intro 4 times! "I will saber your a$$!" My side hurts from laughing. Buy the way that's a lot of gear to go under cover with don't you think? Except the helmet mounted missile. That's a totally must have...and absolutely not dangerous. Shouldn't he be in a Cobra uniform if he is undercover? Also shouldn't he be somrething like an an anti-Zartan? Maybe I'm just applying to much logic. One shouldn't do that when thinking about the later Joes of the late 80's and 1990s. Shep
MACE in the mother fucking place... to be Yo Joe wait no no... Hail Cobra Forever baby fuck 90's Joe's jesus christ what were they actually fucking thinking ugh lol the Dark Years. How the hell isn't there a GIJoe/Cobra cinematic universe on par with the MCU they have so much to work with, what the hell... what a shame ya know?
The Helmet Mounted Missile Launcher or HMML is based on the real world... ... sorry, I CAN'T FINISH THIS SENTENCE... This is one of the stupidest things in Gi Joe EVER ! I'd take a Septic Tank with the bumper-sticker "...my other vehicle is a Star Brigade Power-Fighter" over one of these. The figure of Mace was pretty good though. If the accessories were in black as you said and the paint highlights were in brown, he's be pretty cool ! But as he is, with that HMML, the depressed look on his face says it all: "I can't believe they're making my gimmick a ridiculous giant yellow-helmet mounted weapon..."
Who would even suspect that the guy with the rocket launcher on his head is a deep cover agent?
Lol! Keep in mind, he's undercover within Cobra... In 1993. Alongside folks like cyborg Dr. Mindbender, Gristle and the Night Creeper Leader. He'd blend in perfectly with his helmet-mounted missile launcher and yellow weapons.
bio kido and he’s bright yellow he would stand out on the rainy streets Right before a assassination
Mace isn't a bad figure by itself. I always thought he looked more like a pilot.
I always wondered how intelligence worked with G.I. Joe. In my opinion Cobra had the best intelligence operatives in the whole vintage line: Zartan, the Baroness, Storm Shadow, at least those guys were dressed for the occasion.

Great opening
Extra Thumbs-Up just for the intro! 🤩
44 seconds in and I declare this is the best opening sketch ever!
I think Mace looks a little like Chuckles.

Thank you for taking time to spend with us

and Barricade
That intro was world-class.
Great review. My son looked at Mace's rocket launcher and said it would either cause whiplash, a concussion or facial burns. I think Mace became the pilot of the Locust helicopter.
Even that quote makes more sense for CHUCKLES than Mace. "Last laugh", "Chuckles", get it?
Never knew about this figure until now. I like his pants and his jacket. In real life, he should be a little plain looking. The face sculpt I can live with, it's all those bright yellow details and gold accessories that spoil it. I would have been 10/11 years old when this figure came out. I think his idea of undercover is like a kids where if he closes his eyes he thinks he’s invisible
Glad I keeped all my Joe's. I need to go though my big box full of Joe's parts and weapons lol. Cool show 😀
I love the opening....so funny.
Funny intro 😆
I have to say this... this is the Best intro so far by Hoody! Brah I almost cracked a rib laughing at this shiiii. LOL “why is my lightsaber blue?” LMBO!
Is it just me, or did the 90s GI Joe figures get a Liefield makeover? Though the feet almost look normal...
A rocket launcher on the helmet?? So there was something below the bottom of the barrel
Thanks for another great video
Hahhahahahahhahahaahahhaaa...that intro
9:56 This is the most Heavy Metal thing I have ever seen!
The ride barrel is thicker so is it technically still a reissue?
Haha. Great opener!!!
Bro that skit actually had me laughing
I like this figure too. I actually wrote a short shorty that I was going to submit to Kindle Worlds before it folded that would have included Mace as being undercover in a crime syndicate that uses those high-tech helmets..
I like mace but the yellow kills it.😟
I agree with you. Good mold but poorly implemented. I remember getting him and still have him in my collection.
I loved the intro! It was your best yet. I thought that I saw all of the stupid looking things the 90's brought. The missile launcher on the helmet did it for me. I generally like the odd things, but that was too much for me.
You know you loved it Byron
I just picked up this figure MOC for 27 dollars. He's pretty cool, especially for a 1993 figure. Most of those are garbage.
Mace was also a character in the COPS cartoon. There was already a hint that Beachhead was related to one of the members. Maybe Mace is too?
Am I the only one that thinks he kinda looks like a Big K Duke? Thanks for sharing Hoodie CoCo!
Well that was a nice way to use that Mace Windu figure, especially with that last skit.
Actually, I always considered Mace the best of GI Joe's undercover operative figures. Why? Because he's actually dressed to go undercover. Well said. Sometimes Hoodie takes things too seriously. Too literally.
I was eating a sub and literally choke spit laughed my ass off when I heard the beginning.dead serious.

Looks like he has a ducktail too which was totally out of style in the 90's
It kinda looks like that might have been where a rooted pony tail may have been tried to be inserted
Sense Chuckles is Army CID Mace could be a Marine NCIS.
Not the worst from the 90's
that missile launcher is a true mic drop moment
Hmm, y'know Mace is an anagram for Acme. Maybe the name is an in-joke for someone who, the only way they could realistically be undercover was in a Looney Toons cartoon? Just a thought...

Cool vid. Though Mace does look like Jay Leno. As a spy.

and reviews is not all you can do,
some cool group scenes would be very interesting too.
all crimson units, all tiger force, ect...
good show!!!
Lol great opening I'm just dead 😂😅😂
Bloke looks like Moose from Archie comics.
11:54 The only place that would be a good idea would be Cobra...I mean, Metalhead has all kinds of missiles on his body, maybe that was their logic, he tries to get recruited by Cobra as a replacement for Metalhead?

Soooo... he stays undercover everyday wearing a helmet with a missile launcher attached to it? Thanks for another steel-plated review Hoodie!
Guys name could have been : 'I'll Take Your Life But I'll Take Mine Too'!.
When you run out of Joes I promise I gonna send you send you some Comandos em Ação.
Okay, admit it, if I told you this was a "Desert Duel Duke" figure or some such, you would believe it if you didn't know better.
Lol!!!!!! I watched the intro 4 times! "I will saber your a$$!" My side hurts from laughing. Buy the way that's a lot of gear to go under cover with don't you think? Shep
Should of said something about Cobra to Mace Windu so he do his snakes on a plane phrase
Ok. Just saw the ending.......perfect
How the heck do you put a silencer on a missile launcher.
Eeh...I'm feelin a Jay Leno vibe from Mace...does this ever happen to you? 13:10
Great Opening Mo#*$! f%#!*$ For a stupid figure with Stupid Accessories and a stupid file card. Great Review
Whoa! You kiss your mother with that mouth Mace?! Quote of the day, "well, those certainly are words..." LOL !
I have all the d.e.f. except for mace.
You left out the fact that he's a US MARINE.
Man go back to the the 80's figures. The 90's sucked!
That intro. Rotf lamo

But as he is, with that HMML, the depressed look on his face says it all: "I can't believe they're making my gimmick a ridiculous giant yellow-helmet mounted weapon..."
Kind of an underwelming 90's figure, just saying.
This figure has way too much yellow! It's not the best G.I. Joe figure of the 90's.
The very end rofl
90s joes kinda went downhill
LMFAO
Olives are gross.
The black voice gotta go
