  • The Hyundai Elantra is a compact car with seating for 5-passengers. This new 2017 Hyundai Elantra gets new interior technology and convenience features plus advanced safety features. Styling has been updated for the 2017 Hyundai Elantra making it look in keeping with other Hyundai products. The Elantra uses the same platform as the Kia Forte. This Korean company is building some very good cars but is it better than the award winning Honda Civic?
    Competitors to the Hyundai Elantra are the Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, Kia Soul, Nissan Versa, Chevy Sonic, Chevrolet Sonic, Kia Rio, Honda Fit, Honda HR-V, Toyota Yaris, Chevy Spark, Chevrolet Spark, Chevy Cruze, Chevrolet Cruze, also the Kia Forte, VW Jetta, VW Golf, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Golf, Dodge Dart, Hyundai Accent, maybe the Hyundai Elantra, Nissan Sentra, Fiat 500, Fiat 500X, Mazda3, Mazda2, Mazda6, Scion iM and Mitsubishi Lancer.

    I love my 2017 elantra. It's smooth it's efficient, the wheel turns so smoothly. I love it. I commute 53 miles going and 53 home and I'm getting 50 mpg on eco mode and I fit 3 car seats

    I got the 2018 Elantra Limited. Great car. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. It looks much classier than the Civic. Has all the features that you want. The level of technology is unparalleled in this class of car.

    I recently accompanied my daughter to select a new car of her choice where she narrowed it down to either the '17 Honda Civic or '17 Hyundai Elantra. She only possess mere technical awareness of automobiles and like many women is attracted to style, user features and overall comfort of the drive. She first drove the Civic, then the Accord. The Accord was nice, but, just a bit too large for her. Then, she drove the Elantra right after we left the Honda dealership. She immediately felt more comfortable in the Elantra. It was smooth and more roomy and quiet than the Civic. She claimed that the engine in the Civic was noisy whereas the Elantra was whisper quiet and equivalent to that of the Honda Accord.
    So, she bought an Elantra Ultimate and is very delighted to have done so.

      Yes, it's the Limited, then one step up to the 'Ultimate' The last designation shown in the brochure which is with the addition of whatever is left to add-on to the car.

    just recently I bought a basic SE Elantra, 2017 for less than $11,000. There are a lot of fantastic cars in this compact class including the Civics and Corolla, but all I wanted was a no frills, late model basic commuter for a great price, and the Elantra fit the bill perfectly and I love it!

    Love my 2018 Elantra SEL overall. It looks and feels more upscale than one might expect for the price, but still embodies all the virtues of an economy car, such as ease of parking and low running costs. It's hard to expect more than this for under $20k and I think the Elantra has the competition beat in a lot of ways.

Overall I love everything about the Elantra and IMO you get a lot of bang for your buck. I love the way it looks too and it is very spacious for a compact sedan. I also like the way it handles.

    Love the reviews man, but just wanted to reach out about one thing.
    You've said on multiple reviews that Honda Sensing is a more sophisticated technology than BSM.
    I think a lot of people out there would disagree.
    Having a video feed of your blindspot makes you the decision maker as to whether there is enough room or not.
    Your BSM lights up when there isn't enough room, and is dimmed when there is.
    Which is the better/more advanced solution?

    I like my 2014 Elantra GT. It works very well. The big issue I have with it is the Torsion Beam suspension as opposed to independent rear suspension. The ride is very choppy and it does not inspire confidence. The car drives fine on smooth surfaces but it's awful when the road surface is imperfect

    We just bought a 2018 Elantra SEL and we love it. It has great safety features, for the price we paid. We actually like the understated look but classy features, in our opinion the Elantra SEL trim has. We got a great buy because we bought last year's model as a certified pre-owned owned vehicle with original warranty still on the car. Depending on the mileage already on the car will determine how many miles are still on the warranty. Of course, a CPO car only a year or two old will be like brand new.

With the $2500 rebate for this month, walked out with a 2018 Elantra Value for $17, 700 plus tax (with over $400 in additional options included). With the options you get with the Value, you can't beat it. This is the first car that I've bought for under 20K, and I am appreciating it greatly. One note, happy that the CVT is in my wife's CR-V and not in this car.

    between a 2015 honda accord or the 2017 hyundai elantra, which one is more reliable? im getting a new car next month and i'm choosing between those two. looking for reliability more than anything else, but i don't really like toyota's otherwise i'd get one. I've heard honda's have always been reliable, and hyundai's used to have a low reliability rate, so i'm really curious about the newer models that i've heard are better.

    The Kia Forte SX has had these kinds of amenities (heater rear seats, memory seats, etc.) for years now. I also think he said "Civic" more times than he said "Elantra".
    I'm surprised Hyundai didn't offer a more powerful engine in its Ultimate trim. For $30K, the equivalent Civic and Mazda3 trims offer peppier engines with better fuel economy.

      +Amin AL-Shaweesh Nah, N will compete with like M division or AMG. 240hp engine sounds a bit less. Hyundai already launched Elantra sport in Korea(Well, we call it Avente sport anyway), it has independent suspension, 1.6 liter turbocharged engine.(same as veloster turbo) I kinda liked the brand new elantra, so I'm expecting what they have done. But I don't think that this n/a engine version actually can compete with brand new civic. (It's much more nicer if you compare to old one, but it doesn't compete with old model obviously.)

    Excellent review but two suggestions:
    Add more information on the engine. Like a pop box, not only for the HP, but torque at what rpm's.
    Second, I know the show is made in Canada for the Canadian market, but since 99% of the cars reviewed also sell in the US, could you please add as a pop box the Mpg in addition to the KM/L?
    Thank you

    • @gerardmartel4237
      @gerardmartel4237 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cassmanio a drop box for mpg wouldn't do you much good. A gallon (Imperial) in Canada is larger than a gallon in the US, so our mpg's would be higher. You are better off googling a site to convert km/L to US mpg.

    Another good review. The only gripe I would have are the comments on suspension. I would guess that at least 90% of people wouldn't be able tell between an independent suspension and a torsion etc. That should not be focussed on to determine on purchasing the car. Now if the ride is downright harsh, then yes mention that. But handling?
    28000 for an elantra top end model. You have lost your mind if you buy that!

    • @Starchface
      @Starchface 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ladybug Adventures It is crucial that we hear about the car's negative aspects. When I find a review that just gushes about a product like it is the second coming, whatever that is, I question the reviewers motives. Did the guy just do half a job? Did he forget to finish the review? Is it a review at all, or something more sinister? Questions to ponder. This car does not seem that good to me and I agree that it is drastically overpriced.

      Ladybug Adventures I ended up buying the 2017 Limited Ultimate package used for under $15k. I’d say it’s the best value in this segment and one of the few without a CVT even if you buy new. The higher trim level Honda’s are at the same price but you don’t get near the dealer incentives Hyundai is offering. There is a value in choosing the Hyundai over its competition at this time. Honda is offering some leading tech in their cars, but it was hard for me to justify the extra $4K over the Elantra Ultimate.

    I own a 2017 Elantra. They have a 2.0 Atkinson cycle variant of the Nu engine. Mine, and according to many reports the dealer told me they get, is they make a loud ticking/tapping noise when cold. It sounds like a diesel. Dealer reported Hyundai said it was normal because the metal shrinks in cold weather and there is no need to look into the issue further. They further recommended I bring the engine and transmission to operating temperature before driving. I am not sure why they would recommend this since this requirement it is not listed in the owner's manual. The owner's manual only states that engine speed should be kept "moderate" until the engine reaches operating temperature. I have never ever had a car do this in cold weather and I have had my fair share of junkers. I think there is a real safety issue here that Hyundai is ignoring. Are they engineering piston slap into their engines causing them to wear out early and suddenly which can happen while in motion which can lead to a dangerous situation like stalling or power loss on the road. It seems Hyundai in Canada acknowledged this with a recall for an issue with the EXACT same issues on the Nu engine but for some reason failed to take action in the US even though all the engines came from the same plant. That recall was for ill fitting pistons in the cylinder causing knock when the engine was cold. This caused damage that required the engine to be replaced. It seems this issue is continuing on these latest iterations of the Nu engine and Hyundai is continuing to ignore them and blaming the customer about them. Hyundai needs to be held accountable for their product and address/correct any safety issues world wide and not in just one country.

    Last year I bought a 2017 Elantra Limited ( it says it's Limited but it's missing some features that I doubt would have been opted out of) and traded in my 2018 Soul Ex+. The Elantra is nice but isn't comfortable for long drives and the Eco mode makes it feel very sluggish and doesn't help very much with fuel economy. I don't hate the car but I miss my Soul.

    As mentioned at 5:00 = There are a lot of people who like the good old-fashioned automatic transmissions with gears instead of a CVT, and that means that for an 'ASIAN-DESIGN' economy car you have the choice of the Elantra or the Mazda3. If you want a conventional looking radio, with the controls on the dash, then your ONLY CHOICE is the Elantra.

    One advantage the new Elantra has over the Civic is the passenger seat is height adjustable standard. The Civic front passenger seat is too low and not height adjustable at any cost. I think I like the back seat in the Civic better though due the more reclined seatback angle. I rented an Elantra years ago (2000) and was expecting a piece of crap and instead I was extremely impressed.

    • @cindymiller2748
      @cindymiller2748 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +tastyorange Very true! I test drove both the new Civic and new Elantra and based on that feature alone I purchased the Elantra. I'm 5'8 which is pretty tall and my boyfriend is 6 feet and we both thought that both front seats on the Civic were too low and there was no way to raise them :( Both front seats on the Elantra can be raised really high to get a perfect view of the road. Sold! I think Honda aimed the new Civic to people in their 20's who like that sporty low sitting front seats...we are in our 30's and hated those seats.

    Can someone explain me in layman terms what CVT and Dual Clutch transmission is? I looked it up but I don't get it at all.

    • @midsouthautoloans2087
      @midsouthautoloans2087 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +A Freethinker in laymans terms: A CVT transfers power from the engine to the wheels via a transmission that has no metal gears. Instead a CVT connects two pulleys by a belt (like a big rubber band) and is known for reliability problems and feels like the transmission is slipping. It is not a rubber band obviously it is made out of some synthetic rubber/flexible belt material.

    • @malikbrother8022
      @malikbrother8022 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +A Freethinker CVT drives like train. It is computerized train transmission that drive like gear-less. It basically saves the rev for quick acceleration starter and save a lot of gas. Dual Clutch transmission drives like traditional gear and very reliable. CVT has been marred with controversies. Google people complaint about CVT experience. It is new and unreliable. Subscribe 7 years of cvt warranty extra just to be safe if you are planning to buy Honda, Nissan or Subaru.

    Only serious complaint is your claim on the aging of the old body design. It was sharp and rounded at the same time. The new body is more boxy and loss some of the sharp lines. The back especially looks worse. Not a fan. In my opinion the 2015 year was the best looking Elantra made.
