Holding with the Garmin GNS

  • The hold we are using is a published hold on the RNAV(GPS) 34 into Panama City, FL (KECP). Although the hold appears on the procedure, it is not a hold in lieu of a procedure turn (HILO). It is like a published en route hold and will not be prompted by the navigator. So, if instructed to "hold as published," how do we do it?
I selected this hold for demonstration because questions about it arose in a group. Plus, while it is unusual because it is a hold on an approach which is neither a HILO nor a missed approach hold, flying it follows exactly the same procedure as the types of enroute holds we are most likely to get in the real world.

Neat and clean explanation. Thank you.
I'm still curious about the software you are using.

All my avionics videos use the trainer software provided by the manufacturer. The GNS (Windows) and GTN (Windows and IPad) are available free from Garmin. The IFD (iPad) from Avidyne. The G1000 software (Windows) is payware from Garmin, although older versions are only available from third parties.

@@midlifeflyer Thank you for your answer.... do you happen to know what "other parties" provide the G1000 free software for Windows (I suppose it cannot be connected with MSFS2020 though)?

@@AntonioFardella sorry, no, AFAIK, the G1000 software is not free anywhere. I meant that I think Garmin itself doesn't stock the early versions but they can be picked up at places like mypilotstore.com. I can't help you with MSFS.
