Hey hey, just to say that I really appreciated this video, even I am not happy to see that things are breaking, it was nicely filmed and narrated, I miss you Vern 💙
Shit happens Vern, glad that you present the reality of sailing ups and downs. It's never the glam that non sailors think it is. Even if there are no dolphins, keep the vids coming.
Bad luck comes in threes mate. It’s all behind you now! Hang in there bud. As for the video, learning by doing is also about dealing with setbacks, so it’s critical to your brand that you show that. Thanks for doing so. And I loved the b-reel from 6:30 to 8:00.
1st rule of sailing is to never be in a rush to get to a destination cause things will always go bad ! Although I totally get it, seeing Marie and bubs will be by far the best day of your life!
haha, tell that to any racer who's sole intention is to get to the destination as fast as possible. the sail breaking had nothing to do with rushing, if it hadn't of blown out this day it would have very soon after,
We totally sympathise with the chart plotter issues mate. We have become so reliant on them over the last 20 years. Ours became temperamental as soon as we left Darwin and always lost gps/ais at the worst possible time, including when we crossed the busy Singapore Strait in robust conditions! Our backup tablet was failing too at the same time. Lol. We're excited you're headed north again and hope we cross paths in Indo at some point :)
Hey Vern, The first day I used my drone that also mounted my "then" new GoPro, I crashed it into the dinghy storage area on the beach. My wife and I looked at each other and said - well that's the end of that! Stupid drones.
Vern another great video. We can't expect you to be smiles every video. You are the real thing you tell it as it is no sugar coating it. When things are going good or great you share that with us and when things go to the dumpsters (shits) you show us your displeasure . You are human like the rest of us. And by not having Marie with you it's hard as I am sure she feels the same. All the things going wrong breaking at around the same time is maybe good as now you will have them dealt with and everything will hopefully be good to go worry free to Lombok. Vern catch you next week
Drones are fickle. IMHO, they need to be constructed waterproof with floating capabilities. I hope Raymarine steps up for you. If it's any consultation, the sticker looks good on camera. 👍 Keep pushing forward. Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸 (tomorrow).
Cheers Vernon. It's hard to be positive when your bank account is taking a bashing. I'm sure things will settle down and you will be back to your usual positive self. Hang in there and keep doing what you love.
A mainsail as an unexpected cost is savage, it's ok if you're cashed up but a real shock when you're not. I noticed your crew had his face buried in that phone the entire time he was on the helm, thats a really bad and dangerous habit he needs to shake if he's thinking of getting a boat. You're a bigger man than me, there's no way he'd be helming my boat, especially a quick nice one. Well thats 3 hits so thats gotta be it, wishing you the best from now on
Yeah the new mainsail is about the equivalent to our living costs for 6 months aboard. a bit of a hit for sure. Is what it is, got a much bigger problem to deal with now
"...and the fickle finger of fate having soundly f*ucked you again, moved on." Chin up mate and on to the horizon. All the best. (I hope that black swan works out how to use the heat gun so he can get his revenge 🤣)
Keeping ya chin up bro, look at it this way if you didn’t use the boat you wouldn’t find out what will break when you need it,been loving the cat series.
I'm still mucking around with them to see what works best. Its not a big deal, its not like something terrible will happen if you do it wrong. Worst case you cant sail good upwind.
Actually prefer honest videos that show the real story good and bad. I stop subscribing to channels that pretend everything is great, and then you find out the relationships were fake, the boat is actually broke, etc. Despite the lack of drone footage I really enjoyed the long selfie stick footage and the few minutes of motoring in calm waters. Really great photography.
Understandable that your a bit bummed about three expensive bits of kit going arse up, if you were cheering and happy about it that would be weird, but everything in three’s you’ve had ya turn let’s hope for some clear sailing from now on
Interesting seeing you in a supervisory role, a whole new aspect of Vernon.
Yes indeed, weird for me.

Glad you enjoyed it babe. ❤️ Miss you

You have had a run of bad luck mate....boats who would have thought! Thanks for the great videos.
Tell me about it. My good luck hasn't kicked in yet either.
Hang in there Vernon…The sun always shines behind the clouds..
Yep for sure, thanks Frans

Thanks Rob. I plan on remembering the Up's more than the Down's
I'm feeling your pain Mate..... it's bloody hard work. You have my respect.

I think I've started my second batch of 3's then because the bad luck hasn't stopped yet.
Can only get better mate dont let it bring you down fair winds !
Well after what happened today I beg to differ.
More bad news?

Wow, thanks so much!
Well done mate, all the best from us.

It wouldn't be real if nothing went wrong...Because it's real, you have loyal followers... Keep it up...
Good to know, thanks Colin.
UPS AND DOWNS.....keeping it real.
Well, down, down, down but hopefully now a few Up's.👍
It's all good, keep going 😊
Thank you 😊
Hi Vern, maybe this would be a good time to show us some still photos that you are so good at. Realy miss that.
Take Care.
Lars/Sweden
I havent been very motivated lately to spend time making photos, I hope that will come back as I get further north. 👍

Hope to see you guys up there soon. Yeah the electronic nightmare.

Yep, they're good while they fly.

Thanks mate. I dont stay down for long, life is too beautiful to stay pissed off. Today we took a rather big HIT though. Thanks for watching.
Keep crackin' luv ya work
Sad to see the hits keep coming. Own a cat too so know the feeling. Fingers crossed that bad luck comes in threes and that's it for a while now.
Thanks Jennie,
Mate you are doing an awesome job, keep up your spirits, things will get better,
Thank you, I will🤙
Watching now 👍
Hope you enjoy

Thanks mate, stickers are still on there and looking good. A brand do make a waterproof drone but it gets very heavy and complicated.
Cheers Vernon. It's hard to be positive when your bank account is taking a bashing. I'm sure things will settle down and you will be back to your usual positive self. Hang in there and keep doing what you love.
Absolutely, thanks Wayne
I fly drones so I feel your pain. Also, we miss seeing Marie almost as much as you do.
I dont get emotionally attached to drones as sooner or later you'll lose it.

That's Navionics running on the phone.
Got my tablet with Navionics on the helm the next day.
Hope that clarifies the impression. Cheers.

Thanks Brad

You wont bloody believe what happened yesterday then!
@@SailingLearningByDoing Oh sh*t; another one? I feel for you mate. The boat owners lot etc etc
😁... a black swan event if that happens. Just had to chase it away from the plastic sticker waste. No intention to cause harm. 😅

C'mon Vern, how IS Marie doin' ?
Update about Marie coming soon. She's putting a video together.
I am doing well, I will give some news soon
How did the sail rip? Strong winds?
Glue in the laminate let go.
Dagger boards.. does the tuning and management make it tough for new sailers? How are you managing the tuning?
I'm still mucking around with them to see what works best. Its not a big deal, its not like something terrible will happen if you do it wrong. Worst case you cant sail good upwind.
Wasn't there a sail maker in Lombok that you've used before?
Nope, not that I'm aware of.
No we had the Zoom sails on Schiehallion but they shipped it to us, it was not made in Lombok.

Yeah exactly, should have some good luck coming my way now. New mainsail has been going well.
