    I had my car serviced while on vacation. Driving home I noticed brown dots flying up my windshield for 25 kilometers and had no idea what it was. Then my low oil light came on so i drove immediately to a gas station. When i opened the hood, the engine bay and hood were covered in oil and the oil filler cap was off. I bought some aluminum foil and put it over the filler hole after putting in 2 quarts of oil. I had 250 kilometers to get home. I had to add 2 more quarts of oil and replaced the aluminum foil twice.

    Drove home from SK in a 1988 Hyundai Pony. Checked the oil in Winnipeg. Forgot to put the cap back on. Oil light came on in Kenora. Oil was all over the engine!

    Let's say you drive a car for about 450km with regular stops every 80-100km with an oil cap that is placed upside down instead of fastened up-right in the socket, mind you the cap is trapped from above by the bonnet so there is no chance of it falling off all the way but oil lightly spits out coz of bumps and uneven surfaces. No warning light comes on and the temperature gauge is at normal reading levels. Then you pour in about a litre of oil after noticing the error, and it's not smoking or anything the next day you start it up and drive, still feels normal. What's the next best thing to do in this situation? Drain all the oil out and replace with a whole 5L of new stuff or rather do a major service instead to be on the safe side?

    Drove down the rd to get some snacks in my Volkswagen CC and left the oil cap loose. The cap hadn’t been blown off but was just bouncing around due to piston blow by. A very small amount of oil came out and got on the hood. Trying to find a oil air separator cap

    I didn’t notice I lost the cap until recently and ran the vehicle without it. It started overheating today. And I screwed?

    Would the oil need changed if it was left off for only say 100 miles driven that way, with cap off?

    • @autolearn8404
      @autolearn8404  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great question, the best recommendation would be to drain and refill your oil to prevent a build up of debris in the engine oil components. However more likely the engine oil filter will collect some of the debris. Depending on the road conditions and environment, these may contribute to the amount of debris that may have been sucked in. Overall you should be okay until your next oil change. I would keep mind of any issues that may occur as a result and begin with changing the oil in that case.

    I just dropped my oil cap on the right side of my Honda CRV 97 model LX and I can't find it in the engine compartment do you have any suggestions? September 2024 1800 hours

    • @autolearn8404
      @autolearn8404  ปีที่แล้ว

      I suggest getting a new cap from any local automotive parts supplier nearby! Most likely the cap will find its way through and fall to the ground as you are driving! Hope this helps :)

    I was checking my oil level and went to put more oil in, forgot to put the oil cap back on since I was in a rush and thank god my drive to work is only 10 minutes with a slow commute so nothing happened but I was worried about air getting in the wrong places

    Lol added oil to my truck and proceeded to drive 2 miles to my house. Got a whiff of oil, behold! My oil cap was neatly placed on top of my engine. Silly me.

    Came here because today my mechanic "forgot" to put the oil cap after a service.. Now my forester smells like it took an oil bath, inside the entire engine bay there is an oil layer. Hopefully it didn't ruin the engine!
