Coolant is just water mixed in with some additives (a type of alcohol). The additive reduces the freezing temperature and increases the boiling temperature of water. Topping off the coolant with some water should be fine.

I have never used antifreeze in any of my vehicles. I use pure water. I have never had a single problem. I do drain the water every couple of years and there is a little bit of rust or dirt but no more than when I used to use antifreeze. Now, if I lived in a freezing climate of course I would use antifreeze. That's why they call it antifreeze!😊

You have probably over filled your cooling system. Be ready for some potential pipes or radiator or resovior leaks, that extra fluid will build excess pressure and burst open something.

Some cars don't have the coolant and washer reservoirs adjacent to each other.

Lol added oil to my truck and proceeded to drive 2 miles to my house. Got a whiff of oil, behold! My oil cap was neatly placed on top of my engine. Silly me.

Mine was not on right, just sitting on top,,, The place that did the oil change didnt tighten the cap correctly,,, I found out after driving several hundred miles,,, I noticed my oil level was low,,, Well,,, I added oil and put the cap on the way it needs to be put on,,, 😮😮😮

the reason why you use coolant instead of straight water is coolant acts as a lubricant for the water pump seals and bearings, straight water will do in a pinch but it will wear out your water pump faster, if you been using straight water dump it out and replace it with coolant! coolant cost like 15+ dollars a water replacement pump cost a few hundred!

I was checking my oil level and went to put more oil in, forgot to put the oil cap back on since I was in a rush and thank god my drive to work is only 10 minutes with a slow commute so nothing happened but I was worried about air getting in the wrong places

Came here because today my mechanic "forgot" to put the oil cap after a service.. Now my forester smells like it took an oil bath, inside the entire engine bay there is an oil layer. Hopefully it didn't ruin the engine!

I used tap water in my hyundai accent for years It caused rust in the cooling cycle and the rust caused corrosion in the aluminum parts, then the corrosion caused loss in coolant and heat then head gasket damage, the engine started mixing water and oil It was an expensive lesson I got it fixed and replaced all the corroded parts luckily the engine is still in good shape Now am using the only coolant which is certified by the manufacturer no issues so far

Tap water will cause calcium buildup when it evaporates over time which will block coolant water jackets and will overheat your motor killing it over time.. distilled water will not do thaat but both will freeze and crack your block or something when it expands. If you mix 75/25 water to antifreeze youll be fine using distilled water.. even 85/15 will raise the freezing point enough unless you live in places it gets sub zero..

So I accidentally did this. Then drove about 300 miles through the mountains. Then another 40 or so back in town. Suddenly my engine got really hot. I pulled over, luckily used a rag to open the coolant tank because it was SOO hot and steaming. It seemed the coolant all evaporated away being such high percentage alcohol. I immediately filled it with coolant. Hasn't been a problem or anything since.

Ur engine will be covered in oil and you might burn out ur engine.

If my break fluid is low can I just add in break fluid without bleed my breaks?

I did it last week on my new Lexus NX. The dealer told me don't start the engine and use tow car to drive me to service (otherwise I might lose a money for parts replacement of cooling system as it can be broken in results, including engine overheating). So I called Lexus Assistance and they quickly found me one for free. On the service they drain and replaced the coolant liquid. So, my inattention cost me 100 bucks :(

If your changing a oil pan gasket with overfilled oil just go ahead and drain the oil out and do a oil change and change plugs?

I’ve been using only water for 12 years now and I’ve never recorded any damage at all 😅. And in my opinion I prefer water to coolant. That’s my personal opinion that I shared with you guys. 🙏🏽

I did this last night. I called my mechanic, he said it won't damage anything right away and it's okay to drive for a short time, but it should get a coolant flush sooner than later. He said what will happen is the alcohol will evaporate at 20 degrees celsius (I added winter washer fluid) and create air pockets which could create an airlock in your pump which will stop your cab heater from working.
