My birds show all the signs ! They love me and I love them. They spend almost every waking hour with with me. And when I’m not with them they are in the aviary enjoying the outdoors.

My cockatiel was a rescue. He came to me day one and never left. He preens when I'm getting ready in the morning too. That's a common one! I just love him. Had some behavioral problems, but they all went away with trust and confidence building ❤️
    These little guys are awesome!

When I was younger my mother took me to a second hand store. While looking around I heard a "Hello?". I was young and dumb so I followed the voice and found the store owners Cockatoo named Casper. Long story short I got to sit there for about a hour petting and snuggling with this bird. Good childhood memories.

Does anyone else’s bird get so excited when they see you that they bow their head, spread their wings and frantically walk back and forth until you let them step up to your finger? Also what does it mean when the bird tries to steal your food?

    • @LadyVader
      @LadyVader 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

Birds are social eaters: in fact, sometimes birds won't realize something is edible until they see a flockmate eat it. Your bird is trying to steal your food because she wants to try some, and knows it's food because you're eating it. Only share things that are safe and healthy for birds. No salty, sugary, or caffinated treats!

My cockatiel always does a poop when I approach his cage. I guess he is making himself lighter to prepare to fly away lol. Also when out of the cage and I extend my hand he flies to it and kisses me to say hello, but sometimes he just flies to me to find a way to attack me. I have only had him 10+ years so too early to assess whether we are bonded yet 😂

I just got a cockatiel and she was a bit unsure at first. I couldn't get her out of the cage even though she was hand raised and was on my shoulder at the store.
So I opened her cage and sat next to it and read a book. She inched closer and closer and closer. Then she bent her head down to let me give her pets and scratches. Then closer and finally she got out and on my shoulder. I stayed close enough so she could get back in if she wanted, and she did eventually but stayed right by the open door trying to preen my hair.
I was so happy she made quick progress

Thanks so much for this video!!! My cockatiel has been with me for a week and he calls me whenever I leave the room he is beeing isolated from my other bird( to protect from any disease he might be carrying, but will hopefully have full permission to freefly around the house next week!) and he also wants to be near me whenever im doing my math or playing, so i guess thats a good sign! Thanks!

Ohh, nice points 👍 I’ve actually noticed some of these behaviors with my female bird. She clings to me when I take her out of the cage and mimics me when I close one eye. The male one absolutely still hates me tho 😅 tries to bite me at every minute and is always alert. They’re siblings that fight a bit too much, so I was wondering how to interact with the male.

I got my cockatiels from the shelter and it was told that they bite and stuff. They haven't bitten me once yet. They are also scared of humans and probably have past traume from hands (leading them to bite I guess).
But they seem comfortable with me. The youngest singes and dances with me and likes to get/ give kisses. The other two are a bit older and still more shy, but we are getting there.
A thing I noticed yesterday is, when my dad way in my room to drill something to the wall, the youngest was screaming till I stood next to him. Then he started to sing and the other two also started to preen each other.
Is that also a sign of bonding ?

It's been 14 days that I brought my cockatiels home... By day 3, If I have food in my hands My male cockatiel would come to me and eat from my hands ...now he sits on my shoulders..doesn't even mind getting petted and scratched. .. Basically would do anything if I have food in my hands 🤣 but he is like oh no don't touch me if you got no food for me.... Whereas My female cockatiel was very cautious and scared....she would hiss at me and act like she would bite me whenever I put my hands in the cage to change water or food... By day 7 She has started eating from my hands but doesn't allow me to pet her... but lately I noticed that whenever she thinks I'm not paying attention she just sits on the cage door and keeps staring at me continuously..or if they are outside their cage, the male just focusses on eating but she'll stop eating at times and just keeps staring at me... And if I look at her she pretends like she wasn't looking at me... It's super cute... How I wish I could just give her a hug and tell her to trust me that I'll always love her...I hope she starts trusting me more in the coming days...

Hey, i have question. My 1 year old nymph acts strange.
He atacks me and is agresive when i FRIENDLY aproach.
But few minutes later, he lets me pet and Play with him like a best friend. He is going through puberty and molting and i want to ask, is the quickly changing behavior a case of puberty?

Sounds like the first hormonal phase to me. I believe they call it bluffing? Or buffing. Either way, it’s a lot of mood swings because they don’t understand the feelings and hormones they’re getting. Best bet is to give him space and SIXTEEN hours of sleep. Hormonal birds need a lot of sleep. They also offer shots, I believe, for hormonal males to help soothe their body. If you are confused about anything else, I use BirdTricks for my info. They have a TH-cam channel and website! Best of luck!

I knew I was bonded to my 5 year old yellow nape when he snuck up and started drinking my coffee. I knew he was doing this because he started saying “I like cream and sugar in my coffee.” Then I chased him off because no caffeine and he laughed at me like I was the butt of his joke. I laughed. Then my only with me 3 day bird started singing in my voice.

Are they allowed to fly free?
Because that is a huge bonding opportunity.
Tey looking for smaller signs wether or not they feel comfy around you.
Do they eat or groom or sleep with one foot up and head tucked away while aware you are very close?
Do they come close to the door of the cage if you approach?
      Things like that

    • @Tanzles
      @Tanzles 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Try to get them to associate food with you. Use millet or any treats they like and slowly put your hand in the cage but don’t follow them and keep it completely still, see if they gain interest. If not that’s fine, try doing this five minutes a day.

      Afraid of hands?
I can pet my canary with my face, arms, probably even feet of I had that skill, but boy, she runs as fast as she can if something resembling q finger comes near!
She often cozies up to me, takes nap on random places on my body (as in my elbow or so and more 'hanging ' than sitting, or sometimes even lying belly down) and she pushes against me and preens me.
She's just terribly terrified of hands, especially fingers
Some animals are also just very much intimadated by hands.
They resemble a predator's head quite a lot from an animal's perspective.
      Plus, it's weird to them.
We are a creature with one big talking and eating, but clumsy head.
And we have two more, very weird, things that resemble a head, on wobbly sticks, that make weird and unpredictable movements.
Oftentimes it helps to offer your hand in a different way.
Don't stick out your finger / hand in the typical 'hop on up' way.
Perhaps make a loose fist, or offer your entire hand or show yiur hand fingers pointed up
Find out if she even likes hands at all and if she doesn't, why?
Is she afraid (my canary was handled in a way that frightens her) or are they intimidated, confused, are you moving around too fast or something?
Yummies help a bird get close to hands, even if they don't really like it.
But don't pet m while they are on your hands eating, if hands and /or petting was an issue.
Try to pet them in a moment they are comfortable, aware of you and their surroundings anf let m know what you want to do.
      And respect their boundaries.
If you have the patience, wait for the moments they ask for close contact, when they snuggle up to you, try to pet them, but don't scare m away.
A food reward after that, preferably from your hands, truly helps to encourage them get over whatever is holding them back.
But some nevertheless never like a real petting, the way we want.
And we need to respect that and be happy with what they do allow.
Not everyone is an equal big hugger or has an equal need of very close contact.
And the same goes to your birds / any pet really.
And affection is different of everyone.
      My bird loves eating together.
But only out of my plate or hands🤣🤣
Giving her a piece on her saucers and I can throw it out.
The seeds on the cheeseburger prompted her to sit on my hand /finger to come steal m though.
While she had het own piece!🤭
The seeds on the kitchen table taste better than any other feeding dish and washing oneself is most pleasant in the sink and not a fancy bitd bath.
That's her way of saying: I love you and I like everything with you, better than anything I have to do truly alone .
She falls asleep belly down on my arm. Can't pet her, but in that moment, she's super close to me and absolutely trusts me.
      It's precious.
      But I can't pet her.
