This is amazing. Thanks so much. When I was 6 years old my older sister took me to see Herman's Hermits and the Animals opened for them. I don't remember anything about the night except the way Eric Burdon could wail. Even at 6, that was a pivotal moment for my taste in music.
When I was 13 yrs old in 1966, my Father took me to see Eric Burden & the Animals at Steel Pier in Atlantic City. They were great. Eric Burden was and is an underrated blues/rock singer.
Lol. This same year Eric and the Animals were in Norfolk VA. I was 13 yrs old and me with 2 other Catholic school girls, in our uniforms, tried to sneak into The Triangle Hotel where the band was staying. Thank Goodness our uniforms gave us away. When we were asked by security why we were there we turned and ran!! We loved Eric! Great memory always!
I honestly thought eric burdon WAS dead because my dad listened to him as i grew up in the 80s, my dad listened to them. And i could NOT believe someone so talented with such a great voice and who wasn't making mainstream music still in the 80s could still be alive.
Eric really is a cool guy. My girlfriend was his housekeeper for a spell. I had her give him a copy of Ralph Gleason's epic tome to the SF music scene, "The Jefferson Airplane and the San Francisco Sound". The man who wrote "San Franciscan Nights" had never read it. He devoured it and appreciated it so much he gave my girl a huge armload of personal swag to give me. Eric Burdon T-shirts, photographs and even a pair of pajamas he never wore. I treasure that stuff 'till this day. Eric is probably the most genuine person that ever rocked the 60's. And still going strong! Great job on this doc. ***** 5 stars **
What an awesome story. It makes me happy to know that he is as cool as I always thought him to be. I was born mid seventies; my parents loved the Animals, & as I got older, I truly appreciated their music, and all that Eric Burdon was and is.
I was stationed at pearl harbor, Eric played three nights at a club. Brian Auger was in his band. I got the Animals reunion album signed and had a few minutes in the dressing room with the guys. Eric was really inviting and straight up regular guy. Went all three nights...
Great humour, he really makes me smile and laugh. He was the first singer that left a huge impression on me and we were handed down some 45s and an old mono record player from the early 1960s which my little brother and I loved. It came with 15 or so 45s and a few early animals, Beatles, Stones and Dylan records.
This is one of the best Eric Burdon interviews/documentaries I have ever seen. He's eloquent, no craziness, no posturing. Excellent sincere conversation. The man should be held in higher regard than he is. Wouldn't it be so cool if he sang a few duets & record them with Mick Jagger? Van Morrison? Tom Jones? Do it now gentlemen while you're all still vertical.
Yeah I don't know that I want to hear Burdon singing beside Mick Jagger kind of makes me scrunch up my face in a bad way. Go figure. This isn't quite like Dean Martin and Bing Crosby.
@@skidancin Frank Sinatra & Bing Crosby is more like it. Dean may have sung with Bing but they were no pairing. But, hey, Burdon would make Jagger nervous, even more so than Tina Turner -- Burdon having the better blues voice than Mick. And lately, Eric's been sounding quite good. It would be nostalgic to see & hear them together.
I played his music for decades, still do from time to time but it gets harder as the years pile up, the road ahead is much shorter than the miles travelled in the past. But authenticity will never die, and Eric Burdon was and is authentic. Thanks Eric, you supplied many answers to life’s eternal questions.
Was a kid in the Mid to late 60's and Dad was coming home with all the great records from Stones, Animals & Beatles. He used to sing along out loud to We Gotta Get Outta This Place and It's My Life. Great memories. Consider myself lucky because at the time most parents thought these bands were outrageous!
I love the rawness of these bands, this afternoon I listened to the 'Five Live Yardbirds' album, and it was so raw & loud, amazing! Or in the '60s live circuit, The Animals, Stones, Who, early Beatles, Kinks, Yardbirds, etc... They all have this meaty beaty rawness!
Eric, Eric, Eric can you really believe what you've done, where you have been in your youth to adulthood, and the amazing way you sing,? Look at yourself performing as a youth. You still have it !! The first performance of House of the Rising Sun is so amazing, so sexy, and your facial expressions is beyond any performer I have ever seen. Thank you for your hard work thru the yrs early on. A very good singer from the old days, I remember listening to his music when I was a kid now at 55 it's nice to remember those days...long live his music....
It was something to buy a 45 in the 1960s. My first 45 was bought when I was 12. We did paper rounds and stuff, hand me down clothes and old plimsoles and scout jumble sales which was a luxury. There was also those little cheap transistor radios made in Hong Kong from the market barrow boys well before Tandy came along. The ford Corrina mk 1 was a good car as was Hillman imp. What great days. I lived about 5 or 6 miles from Chelsea bridge but my gran lived in Fulham with sash windows, fire place on first floor of an old terraced Victorian rented house. Chelsea Bridge was well known for racing on bikes with rockers and mods and Eric mentioned his lovely Corvette which must have been so rare as American cars were very rare and we saw Harley's because there was Fred Warrs the main Harley Davidson importer main dealer where riders got new bikes and spares and servicing so you would always hear and see harleys in the kings road Chelsea.
The Twain Shall Meet will always touch every part of my heart and soul. I have purchased this LP/ CD for all those that I love. Thank you, Eric, and for your many, many other songs that tell such great stories. You are a gift from above. Bless you.
This was a great documentary. I was in a band in 1965 and toured with Herman Hermits and the Animals in US. Eric was a colorful character. Loved the band. It was fantastic. My band was just the opening act for the three bands. It was a pleasure moment in my life for sure. I knew every note of every song they played. I was a base player and studied Chas and how he played. Hilton Valentine was the friendliest with me. We traveled from city to city in a DC-3 plane. For a 15 year old base player in a band I can tell you it was a once in lifetime thrill. So cool to see Eric still getting around after all these years.
I saw Eric @ Nashville’s Center Stage in the 80s. Sadly the show was poorly attended but everyone there was into it. Eric performed as if he was playing to a packed house & killed it. Total professional artist.
Maybe the song "We got to get out of this place" was a reflection of him feeling he had to move on. I saw him singing with Animals in Hawaii in 1967. Hermans Hermits was the headliner. They had a great sound.
What a terrific doco this is, I am slightly younger than Eric, but followed the Animals through the sixties, such a great , cool band, I am so grateful that we can still watch all the wonderful videos and our children, and our childrens children, they live on.....thanks for sharing this....

Eric Burdon and the Animals really stood out for me growing up. They were in a class of their own. Just like the Beatles and the Stones were. All from different planets. Thanks for this video. Enjoyed it.
I'm a huge fan of Eric and the Animals. From a recording/engineering standpoint I'm so intrigued by the vocals on "House of the Rising Sun". Love to know the mic-preamp combo, eq/compression settings, etc. It's just so perfect -- and yet not. You can hear those valves screaming -harmonic bliss, saturated perfection. Very musical.
I'm a huge fan of Eric Burdon! The music that he played with The ANIMALS and WAR is absolutely outstanding, funky, and timeless! Long live Eric Burdon and his rockin' blues!
Great documentary to give fans a in-depth look at our musical Icon. But, they leave out what I believe are two major contributions from Eric. The song "Monterey", about the iconic Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and his work with the all African American band "WAR" (although harmonica player Lee Oskar is white), specifically the song every Burdon fan knows, "Spill The Wine".
Yes it's an extremely incomplete documentary with few examples of the great singing that defines him. The album Eric Burdon Declares War, had Spill the Wine, it also had a great piece of art known as "Tobacco Road" and also "Roland Kirk," Amazin stuff, then, as great as any unmentioned and\or unheard title here would be the absolutely Top Notch classic "when I was young." EDIT.. all that said, I do well appreciate what this little documentary adds.
@@lechatel Monterey Pop was fantastic! Incredible artists who performed made iconic performances, like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin! Great musical experience!
@@ptofview Nah. Drippy, trippy, pretentious and self-indulgent stuff produced by people who were given their chances in life by the very people they turned on in virtue-signalling judgement.
Listen to Eric Victor a lot. Some of my favs are songs not heard on radio then or now: “Gin House Blues “ “Many Rivers to Cross “St. James Infirmary “ “I’m Mad Again “ “As the Crow Flies “ “Blue Feeling “ “Cheatin’ …(?)” “Hey Gyp” Then the familiar ones and When I was Young & Spill the Wine & Sky Pilot & San Francisco Nights and of course that song about life in old New Orleans ; House of the Rising Sun. Thanks Mr Eric Victor Burdon
Eric, incarnated old free American Indian, came from England back to his roots. A strong pagan Hero for all who love Earth and freedom. Earth love it or leave it.
Eric Burdon has allways been my music hero..his song 'good times' was and still is an incredibly original and brilliantly executed song...would have loved to have met him but I'd probably fluff it by being all star struck :)
I recently bought a decent turntable for my tube amp system. I dusted off my old copy of Animalism, MGMs last release of that band's material, and one lp that was dumped directly into $2 dollar record bins. I always liked the Animals but I never realized just how authentic a singer Burdon is. No offense to his peer Jagger a great songwriter and showman, but now I believe Burdon is really the superior vocalist.
Great to see Eric and his lovely wife Mariana looking so happy together. She clearly loved him and takes good care of him and she is lovely. I can't help feeling very fond of them both.
I'm 55 and been listening to The Animals my whole life. I absolutely love Eric's voice, so mesmerizing. If only I had a time machine I would go back to the 60s, I was born March 1969 so missed it all!
The sound keeps cutting off?. A great retrospective of Eric Burdon, who I’ve had major crush for over 50 years. Had every album and saw him LIVE three times. What a legend. 🙏💕
Great documentary, but am very disappointed that War was never mentioned. His Copenhagen period with War was for me his most creative time of his life.
Jimi was his dear friend that's so clear even all these years later it shows in this interview he is still emotional thinking about it. I love Eric's passion for the old bikes and I totally relate and loved my BSA A10. They were bikes for working class guys when Eric was a teenager, affordable and would do a ton and go round bends without the frame flexing like the triumph bonnevilles of the day. Cars were a luxury many couldn't afford.
Underrated? I wish I got a dollar for every one of these TH-cam videos where some misinformed schmoe finds it SO astute to hurl out that stupid term thinking that they're going to dazzle everybody with their rare wit. Eric Burden is anything but underrated.
@@richardbennett7546 Well said; it’s the total idiot default thing to say when one has nothing else to offer. Here’s another one: “He really made it his own”, said when someone’s cover absolutely butchers the original.
36 minutes in I saw Eric lying in a tall drill of grass. Take that pearl Eric. One of my favorite music videos with War. So groovy for this 50’s child.
The young music reactors (who weren't even born in 60s, 70s) are just now discovering the Animals' music, and they love it, of course. What a great era for music. I like Eric B's humility and real-ness in this doc. For having had such success, he's not flashy or concieted.
I saw Eric Burdon in 1967 with Chas Chandler. The opening act was The Soft Machine followed by by The Animals and then Jimi Hendrix. It was magical that night in Anaheim Convention Center. I saw Eric many times thereafter. Swinging his microphone on a long cord. I forgot to mention that I sent EB and the New Animals from the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. My cousin loves it so much on dvd! Eric Burdon is always a pleasure!
When I was young. Awesome memories with my other high school grads, class of 1970. I was fortunate to see Eric Burton and War at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, California What an awesome concert. I also saw him at the Newport Pop Festival in Devonshire Downs, Chatsworth California. Unforgettable memories. Thank you Eric Burton, for all the great songs of my young era. You rock, bro! Thank you
The coolest Rockstar ever, this documentary did not disappoint.

There wasn't an Animals album I didn't like.
I'm a huge fan of Eric Burdon! The music that he played with The ANIMALS and WAR is absolutely outstanding, funky, and timeless!
Long live Eric Burdon and his rockin' blues!
What a powerful voice ...saw them at the Albert Hall, London in 1983.
my favourite back in the day. very interesting story. So enjoyed listening to him.
Monterey was dreadful. Like so many songs coming out of that summer of love bubble, you had to be stoned to listen to it,.
@@lechatel You're not feelin' the L-O-V-E!
Brilliant, what a star he is, a proper Geordie. Enjoyed watching
From the same area of Newcastle my dads from
Listen to Eric Victor a lot. Some of my favs are songs not heard on radio then or now:
“Gin House Blues “
“Many Rivers to Cross
“St. James Infirmary “
“I’m Mad Again “
“As the Crow Flies “
“Blue Feeling “
“Cheatin’ …(?)”
“Hey Gyp”
Then the familiar ones and When I was Young & Spill the Wine & Sky Pilot & San Francisco Nights and of course that song about life in old New Orleans ; House of the Rising Sun. Thanks
Mr Eric Victor Burdon
I love the Eric Burdon band Letters from the county farm etc
Eric, incarnated old free American Indian, came from England back to his roots.
A strong pagan Hero for all who love Earth and freedom.
Earth love it or leave it.
Wicked,bitcen,cool
Love you Eric forever xxoo
Yes
Absolutely.
Eric Burdon reeks with amazing hot talent! I miss his music to this day...
"Music isn't about success - it's a spiritual path that you follow" (Sting) ❤
No one could do it better👌
Yes I agree 💯
The sound keeps cutting off?. A great retrospective of Eric Burdon, who I’ve had major crush for over 50 years. Had every album and saw him LIVE three times. What a legend. 🙏💕

@@lhasaroadrat9374 TH-cam spoiling the fun…. Mad world.
I thought it was my tablet!!
Great documentary, but am very disappointed that War was never mentioned. His Copenhagen period with War was for me his most creative time of his life.
I am happy to hear you are at peace.
Saw him live in Cripple Creek Colorado about 10 years ago - free concert at a casino - he was amazing
Lucky you. 🎉
underrated genius, way before his time.
@@richardbennett7546 and not way ahead of his time at all. right on time ! and sill here to enjoy it.
Love him...such an amazing career and talent...
I truly enjoyed this... choppiness aside, it was great. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Eric Burdon is a super super being,we love you Eric, keep on rockin
How does he do it. All round him sorrow but he stands. Thinks differently, watches and sings the words..
I have seen him in concert many times, a very humble sweet man. My 1st teenage crush⚘💃⚘
I love hearing that he is a nice guy! Thanks!
I never would have recognized him. But wow ! I'm a fan of Eric Burdon and the Animals. Their songs have heart and meaning.
He always has such good bands! I’ve enjoyed listening to all of them.
Thanks for all the work you put in to make this available for me to view. I truly appreciate it.
The house of a rising sun 1964
Amazing documentary. What an icon.
What a great man!
I hope he get a jersey boys style movie
Enjoyable, I'm happy for Eric, always wondered where he was.
thanks for the upload really appreciated and enjoyed it
Love this Thank You So much LOVE ERIC
When I was young. Awesome memories with my other high school grads, class of 1970. I was fortunate to see Eric Burton and War at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, California
What an awesome concert. I also saw him at the Newport Pop Festival in Devonshire Downs, Chatsworth California. Unforgettable memories. Thank you Eric Burton, for all the great songs of my young era. You rock, bro! Thank you
Love listening to his voice.
"Mother" was one of his most heartfelt of songs...
