You might like some background on this song. Arirang Alone is a cultural song based on a 600 year old folk song. This is why Sohyang is wearing a hanbok, traditional Korean clothes. The song is about the history of Korea and the longing for the North and South to be one.
The songwriter’s parents had to leave two sons and a daughter in North Korea during the war. His father’s dying wish to him was “when Korea reunites, go find your older brothers and sister and tell them that their parents did not abandoned them”. Where everyone in the audience sings along is where Sohyang brought in the original Arirang lyrics and melody. This song is considered the unofficial national anthem, it's very emotional.

I used to think that crazy high mixed belt was her superpower (duh), then I decided it was the way she switches effortlessly between registers only to realize that is the perfect clarity in all registers from pianissimo to fortissimo is what really sets her apart from the others. But as you stated, all of those things are just tools which combined with the fact that she radiates pure goodness are used to make us feel something. We don't watch a So Hyang performance so much as experience it with her and it makes me happy to watch someone have that experience for the first time. I hope you come back to her catalog because she really is special.

From other vocal coaches reacting to her, I learned a lot, and she is so technically perfect, that feel she is the best female vocalist on the planet. With that being said, and to know she does not want the fame and fortunes she could get. She just wishes to sing for Gods glory and to make people feel better. That right there makes her ten times better in my eyes. I am almost 60, and she is THE ONLY singer that can make me cry.

This is a traditional folk song that most recently has been used to represent the dream of unification
of the Koreans and this arrangement was composed by So Hyang and her husband to take advantage of
her ridiculous range and breath control. You will discover her entire catalog is amazing, her
background is Contemporary Christian Music/Gospel and she's stated many times that her primary
mission is to comfort people rather than pursue traditional fame/recording deals etc.
She has several other songs from the same series available to review and they are all pretty
big production numbers like this one but most recently was a part of the series Begin Again
Korea which had a group of musicians and singers busking across Korea during the pandemic.

Kim So Hyang has always struggled with her health during her
lifetime with those many illnesses..
uterine cancer, hepatitis, chronic pneumonia, etc.. The night she sung You Raise Me Up
She just got out of Hospital and was advised Not to sing...So she did that....lol
It's really a miracle this one of the most skilled vocalist of all time could be
in such poor condition. And definitely she is much more than great technician
and has Perfect Control of Her Gift...and Her singing is so special.
So Being a Cancer survivor And still gets sick from Time to time. But is an Amazing Artist
who gave up a Kpop career to sing for the Lord and for the Love of Music instead of stardom.
She learned English as a Child from Disney Movies, which inspired her to Write two of her
Books...(both Published and there are more).
Also And Publicly thanks Mariah Carey for teaching her everything she Knows about Music ...
that is some Testament to The Power of Music

"Arirang alone" is the song about the most ardent wishs of whole Korean people which is the reunification of Korean peninsula.
"Arirang" is the refrain word contained various meaning in the most popular traditinal song for whole Korean people since very long long time ago maybe more than a thousand years back.
The song "Arirang alone" wishes that all south and north Korean people can hold hands of each others and trip together from the Baek Du mountain ( the highest mountain in Korean peninsula located on almost northern end of Korean peninsula and considered as sacred moutain by Korean people ) to the Halla mountain ( the second highest mountain in Korean peninsula located in Jeju island where is the southern end island of Korean peninsula ) via Dokdo the eastern end island of Korean peninsula.

North Korean and South Korean both knows this song and meaning. Of course, this song is not traditional arrange song. However it shows our country, islands, and uniting. sohayng is good singer.
