Many vocal coaches use her videos to teach their students how perfect technique is done.
Kim So Hyang's vocal type is a Full Lyric Soprano. Her showcased vocal range spans
from D3 to A6 (consistent supported range from G♯3 to E6),a total of three octaves,
three notes and a semitone. According to So Hyang, the highest note she can sing is
an E♭7. This means that she has an overall range of approximately four octaves and
one semitone. However, this range hasn't been showcased to its fullest extent yet,
as the highest note she has publicly showcased is A6. Her belting range/mixed voice
extends up to a Soprano C♯ (C♯6). She is known for her emotive and powerful vocals
and meticulous control. Her vocals have been praised by various vocal coaches and
singers like Seth Riggs and Michael Bolton and Shane Filan (and That List Grows each Day)

So Hyang can make a statue cry! I must have cried the first dozen times I watched this performance, and it made my right side ache! Maybe the Chinese are right and the seat of our human emotions is the liver and not the heart. Ha-ha! I feel so blessed for discovering her back in 2019. Here's a biography of her with my suggestions for you to react to.

We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she's actually an angel come down from Heaven. We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. She does all the musical arrangements herself (with the input of her musical assistants), teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese.
Let me catch my breath. OK.
She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. She also says her voice is “from God.” David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her.
She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of “You Raise Me Up” before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV: th-cam.com/video/te_L9ofhUt8/w-d-xo.html She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere!
She just turned 42 on April 5, though in Korean culture she would be 43 because you are deemed to be one year old when you are born. She was about 37 when she sang this version of “Arirang Alone”, their unofficial national anthem based on a 600 year old folk song expressing their desire to reunify north and south: vimeo.com/308253527
After being sick with pneumonia much of the time from 2016 through to 2020, and considering giving up singing altogether, she decided to enter a televised singing contest called “King of the Masked Singers” in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international fame from the performances being posted on TH-cam.
Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on TH-cam and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted So Hyang and went to Japan in order to perform eight concerts together at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. She could be an international Super Star if she wanted to be but has decided that it would ruin her spiritually, quoting Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”
In a South Korean television interview So Hyang conceded that she struggled with her desire for fame for a number of years, going into the basement in her home numerous times and closing the door so she could complain vehemently to God that He was holding her back from becoming famous due to her health problems and other unforeseeable events. Then she later saw a Korean TV drama where the talented daughter of a very successful businessman was positive she would take over when her father retired. But he left the management of the company to a woman she hated, so she had a fit and lay kicking and screaming on the floor. So as a consequence she does not pursue fame or fortune and actually has no social media presence whatsoever. What can one say about such a person? She is a literal Wonder Woman! And we need about a billion more just like her!

“Debuting in [the] US was my utmost goal for the past 20 years. But when I got a call from the US agency, I politely rejected, as I realized that what I wanted most was not becoming famous,” she said.
“I think singers are very susceptible to arrogance, especially when they hear the screaming from crowds on stage. It can make you feel like as if you’ve become God.”
“And I’m perfectly okay with sharing my music via TH-cam, which can reach tens of millions of people all over the world without making me feel stuck up. Maybe that’s why I was born in this era.”
So Hyang is just the most amazing singer, Christian and human being. She is beautiful both inside and out, and so humble, with a stage charisma and smile that is off the charts.
In Korean dictionaries 소향 (So Hyang) has several meanings.
- First is a type of Korean traditional music.
- Second is to burn incense on a burner.
- Third is to go toward.
But these meanings are rarely used today. 소향 is also the name of a heroine in a Korean traditional novel. So her name is well chosen!

Well, one more gush. In an interview with a Turkish music producer So Hyang revealed that she can hit Eb7 and D7 in practise. However, she never goes above the 6th octave in performances. Oh, I just remembered, she is also a published novelist and theological treatist, and a very good stage actress, which she proved by playing Julie Andrews’ part in the South Korean production of “The Sound of Music.” Moreover, she sang the “Moana” part in the Korean version of the Disney film, does the musical vocals for many South Korean television dramas, and is a talented artist and cartoonist.
She can also play the piano and guitar. Is there anything this genius level woman can’t do?
I really must also compliment the choir, orchestra and audio/video production people So Hyang uses. They are all top notch from what I can see and hear. The Korean people are easily as talented as anyone else.

This is such an iconic performance that has brought many tears (including my own). Yet these are not tears of sadness, disappointment, or depression. These tears represent empathy, relief, or even comfort. All the vocal skills are but an instrument. Sohyang shows us the purpose of music with her instruments. This is such a exemplary case study.

Most reactors react to Sohyang's performances in Immortal Song 2 and were blown away.
My favourites are from King of Mask Singer and not from Immortal Song 2. Not many reactors react to that series. The absolute gems are Dear Love (my personal favourite), Breathe, Mona Lisa (rock song), Home and Hug Me.

You did a Fantastic reaction Video here! I am almost 68 years old now and have seen many great singers/ performers over the years! SoHyang is right up there with the Whitney’s, Celine’s and Mariah’s ( all SoHyang’s favourites by the way) as far as natural ability and technique goes! Where she might beat them is how she is able to make you Feel, her Conveyance of the emotion in a song is Amazing!!! Can you imagine being there listening to her, Live!!!! No singer has been able to make me feel the way she does, year after year:-)) This is one of many , PERFECT PERFORMANCES, she has done. Along with, Arriang Alone, Everyone, Don’t Forget Me, Hug Me, Where Are You and maybe Fate! Those along with 20 other Gems! My Dream is to see her Live! To think this Woman was not a very good singer early in her career! I have notice Improvement in her vocals in every year she has sung! I also prefer her singing in her native , Korean ! Yet her English diction is very good, she is not comfortable talking English in her personal life! She also speaks French and one of the dialects of Chinese! Oh yeah and has written several successful Fantasy Novels and does some teaching in her Home Town University and has sung in many churches in around 60 countries( she is a Gospel Singer but she has sung everything except maybe County, even Rap( a song called, Day Day?light Rock, Mona Lisa, Heavier Rock, It’s Only My World, Arriang Alone is one of Korea’s Folk songs( it’s over 600 years old), Jazz ,Misty, also one of her own songs, has some elements of Jazz is Dream, Pop, many, If I Ain’t Got You, Gospel, this song, Everyone, on This Rock and many many more!

I think that So Hyang is not a humanbeing.... she must be an angel who has got a mission from God to purify our polluted spirits with her holy singing voice.
