This was from an evening of traditional Korean music. She is Korea's leading gospel/CCM singer and has performed with Kirk Franklin. "Everyone" is more powerful with much wider vocal range part in Korean part in English . She has covered many Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey songs in her career with her own arrangements. Her version of I Have Nothing she has been singing since 2018 is amazing as is her new version of I Will Always Love You broadcast on Korean TV this weekend. She doesn't whistle - when she sang Mariah's Emotions she used head voice up to A6! She did sing a Disney princess for Korean version of Moana. Thank you for a thoughtful reaction and analysis.

If I remember correctly, she was in US and happened to run into him. She had five sessions with Seth Riggs I think.
She is queen.. she ia both powerful qt techniques and also emotion. Her life is so inspirational.. she is devout christian singer who really more like singing ro God more than fame/money which make ua not much seen her on media/tv in korea even world though she is worldclass singer vocaliat ever!! Yet we can ussually see her more often her singing in chtuch or charities. She won from cancer and kept her singing didnt give up in her illness. She is cancer surviver.and to sohyang, her goal is to use her voice to comfort people who are going through difficult times as she been through, these why ppl are emotionally in touch whenever she sing a song....

Many consider her the best female singer in the world'I have nothing"she sang higher than Whitney and "Lean on me" she sang in the presence of Michael Bolton and he was so impressed he invited her to sing with him at his concert in Korea. She arranged all her songs by herself and also teaches at a university probably in music, she is an cancer survival and in het forties !
all i can say is you really need to check out so hyang's interpretation of whitney houston's "i have nothing" from the 2015 DMC festival.
i know, i know... it doesn't sound like a good match up, but i really think you'll be beyond pleasantly surprised with how she (respectfully) takes on that epic song & tastefully & impressively makes it her own. it's truly a once in a lifetime performance.

Check out her Lean On Me and You Raise Me Up. Very different songs from Arirang. Her English is excellent so you can see how well she sells the story. As you say, she is skilled, but I believe her charisma may be her strongest characteristic. Heartbreak, swagger, passion, faith, devotion, she adopts the correct emotional expression for the song and sells it all with her performance.

She can actually do whistle tone but almost never really used it in her arrangement...and actually doesn't need to impress audiences...she enjoys telling you a story through her musical arrangement, isn't it amazing? That is why her live worth to listen again and again and again.
Since you asked. I would recommend Katrina Velarde and Sam Mangubat singing “I turn to you”. Katrina’s influences are Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Celine Dion. I think you will enjoy. By the way Sohyang is great.

She is not famous like others just because she is not after the fame. Even in Korea we seldom see her on TV, because she would normally spend her time singing at churches & passing the God’s wisdoms & love through her singing. Actually few years back, Ms.Oprah Winfrey saw her from Utube & has strongly recommended for Mr. David Foster(famous music producer worked with Late Whitney Houston, Celine Dion & more) to check out “SoHyang” performances at Utube . He was so impressed that he wanted to work with her. Last December 2018, they have worked together on “David Foster Conscert” with Brian McKnight & more.

She does all the arrangement of her song. What I like is that she sings from her heart and soul. Soulful singer.
I am not sure whether you like Korean song but this song was written by famous singer, Jonghyun from group named Shinee who went into depression and wrote this song. Later on he committed suicide in Dec 2017. Sohyang sang this song in the singing competition - king of mask singer. The song name is Breathe with English subtitle.

Yes, Sohyang can definitely sing. And she has many amazing covers of songs in English. Recommend you check out her rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water @ th-cam.com/video/C6iHh4yBxCo/w-d-xo.html . Mariah Carey is someone she admires and Sohyang stated that she uses Mariah Carey's song for warm up because the wide range her song provides.
You'll see if you watch more of her. She is the finest vocalist in the world. It's not even close.. Some good comments though. There are no mistakes when SoHyang performs a masterpiece.. Enkoy the journey.

@@MrHarrisRYC I think exists the same problem than first Dimash's reaction: right singer, wrong song. "Arirang" is a beautyful song and this version a great, great performance from So Hyang, but this song is a hymn, not so good to see full capabilities from So Hyang.

Well, she was about 35 when she this but she is actually 42 today, though in Korean culture she is 43 because you are deemed to be one year old when you are born. So Hyang is just the best singer I have ever heard in my 62 years! And she is just as beautiful at 42!
