      Moral of the story: don't study chimps up close. They are terrifying. One second they're cool and fun, the next they're murdering their rival's toddler in cold blood. It wouldn't be so horrific to us if it was mere ants or mice we were watching do these things, but chimps are almost human, so it hits you on the deepest level.

    For those wondering what happened to Hare:
    The researchers found his remains on March 3, 2017. In their announcement, the Ngogo Chimpanzee Project Inc said that they conducted a necropsy and found that he most likely died of old age. If you look them up by their name and Hare's name, you should be able to safely verify this information.
    Regarding details like dying peacefully in his sleep or with friends, I don't think anyone, even they could make a case for that. Hare was found after his death, so there are no human witnesses to exactly what happened. This is sadly true of most animals that die peacefully: it's rare and researchers just aren't usually there to see it happen and by the time they are found, decomposition destroys soft tissue evidence.

    This documentary (not the clips as they distort it) is by far the most extraordinary and unsettling one I have ever watched about wildlife. Truly unforgettable. The complexity of that society due to its unique size has enabled a diversity of characters and behaviours I would have never imagined to see in animals. Truly mind-boggling. It's not just about violence (the empathy shown is one scene is heartbreaking; the lone warrior is a fascinating guy, to take 2 examples) but some scenes are hard to watch indeed and make it not suitable for young children. Even though, a must see.

Genghis Khan apparently killed/was responsible for killing 20% of that periods total population. Unit 731. The holocaust and other genocides. Over 300 nuclear detonations in our own atmosphere as "tests".
      We probably have a giant intergalactic fence around us. The UFOs are just park rangers making sure our barbaric race doesn't develop enough to leave.
      "Those humans can get up to some pretty fucked up shit, can you imagine if they were actually intelligent??"

    • @AltoStratusX1
      @AltoStratusX1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +117

      @o m I see your argument but I disagree. "Evolutionarily speaking" you are incorrect in assuming it has anything to do with aggression, warfare etc. Evolution is random first and foremost and is a process where a mutation is beneficial for the organisms survival in that particular niche. Yes there is competition for resources but if you look at the classic Darwinian Finches it's not a constant violent conflict for resources and more of a species that can consume the resource most effectively, efficiently and thus reproduce far more successfully to take over the niche without a single drop of blood being spilled through violence. Its whose beaks were best designed for getting food. I mean look st sloths. An environment produced that species through evolution and they are still around. Even when looking at the success of mammals and the viability of K type reproduction it seems that a successful evolutionary strategy is the development of emotional connections to protect the group and the high energy investment in procreation. This development of a communal bond and caring for young has allowed mammals to thrive across the planet and allowed humanity to reach the hights we have. It is the drive of conflict and violence that developed alongside these strategies that I would argue holds humanity back.
      You can definitely make the argument that in humanity's case we have greatly benefited from conflict. The scientific progress in WW1 and 2 speak volumes. Simply put I think it is not a universal rule that other races with completely different evolutionary histories would even begin to think in a similar manner that we humans do. The idea of a benevolent society not being competitive enough to survive may be an alien thought to you but in a society and ecosystem where that was made possible THEY would very easily think we are the barbarians. Obviously society, psychology, culture and economics make things much more complicated then the scientific base, but a alien civilization that built these on a different foundation would be incredibly ALIEN to us in comprehension. Hence why THEY would not bomb us to oblivion (which is honestly how I believe humanity would react if we were the hyper advanced aliens-see Native Americans vs Europe) but they also have a vested interest in not letting us out. Its all hypothesis at this point anyways, but that's more or less my thesis on the subject.

    • @ShayShayPlay
      @ShayShayPlay 4 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      @o m I feel like you're forgetting we're talking about aliens here. Pretty presumptive to think their evolution would reflect our own. They could be beyond our imagination.

      Chimps were never innocent animals. This is an old vid, but they have been known for a long time now to also eat meat as part of their regular diet eating other primates and at times even canivalizing, to be aggresively territorial, to kill new born babies, and to premeditate murder, ambush, and bring down the alpha if they don't like him. We just came to publicly know this in contemporary times, but i believe they have always shown this kind of behavior. They were never funny jumping banana eating dumbass punks, they were always gangland in the woods, its in there nature to be this way. To have malice.

      H8er Maker, good observation! Consider how close pigs are to humans. I mean... really close! All their inner organs are in the same order like humans. They are genetically so close that they grow ears and noses on their skin to replace missing human bodyparts.
      They also have found to be as intelligent in problem solving as a four to five years old human toddler. Playing videogames and associations with their snouts on the joystick.
      Their outer form is different, but the similarities are simply stunning... yet: *Bacon, Ham* and whatever else humans consume here.
      Almost the same situation with the apes eating monkeys!
