Hard to believe now, but it wasn't long ago that Malaysia Airlines were always ranked in the top-10 of best airlines in the world, competing against the likes of Singapore Airlines. In fact, it's safety record was also better than Singapore Airlines until- MH370! But the 2 disasters also caused financial distress, so it is very difficult for them to compete on the hardware side since.

Malaysia Airlines was a 5-star airline alongside SQ, Qatar in the 90's/early 2000's. Based on good developments so far, hopefully, they will get back to that.

I’d like clarify things regard to Josh Cahill’s negative video on Malaysia Airlines about 10 years ago.
That sore loser was one heck of entitled brat.
His flights were Hong Kong to Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur and finally to London.
His first attempt to get upgraded in Hong Kong by throwing info that he was a travel vlogger etc but denied.
Reached his first transit in Kota Kinabalu and he once tried to get upgraded. Ground staff in Kota Kinabalu denied his request too.
His next transit was in KL and for the 3rd time he request to be upgraded to London, his final flight was also denied.
Frustrated and furious that he..such highly self proclaimed travel vlogger was denied upgrading then he came onboard to London with a vengeance.
And he was on the quest to find fault with the airline and he found just when he boarded the plane.
Faulty seat and “unfriendly” service etc.
The truth is….his ego was bruised for being denied upgrading which he unashamedly been upgraded by other airlines before this. So, when the Malaysia Airlines said NO…he was angry and spiteful with the airline.
In the nutshell…that was the truth behind his negative review on Malaysia Airlines.

the service was visibly unfriendly, and the meal tray was unclean. In addition, the seat was faulty.
If you pay for a flight on a legacy carrier then you should expect a good flight.
Broken IFE, poor meal quality, threatening staff, and a hostile purser do not meet these expectations.
In addition, the video was made 5 years ago, and he then gave them another try last year, where they had improved.
      Do some fact checking.
Where did you even get your information from? Made up presumably?
You're clearly a "sore loser" who can't take criticism!

_Terima kasih_ Thanks for the positive words on our national carrier 💖 As a malaysian, I always try to use malaysia airlines every time I do an international flight. This started, though not by my own choice, when I took my first airplane flight ever, as a student about to start in a university in america. Being under the malaysian government scholarship, it was the government who arranged for my flight there, I simply had to turn up at the airport with my heavy suitcase. And that flight was awesome!
The last international flight I had with malaysia airlines was 2 years ago, a direct flight from KL to england's heathrow. 13 hours of flight, but again it felt awesome to me!
The last flight I actually had with them was earlier this month, to and fro KL-sarawak, and despite it being only a domestic flight and only for 2 hours, they still served what you got there to jakarta, except for the hot drinks, which was because of an anticipated slightly bumpy ride due to the weather. I say excellent!

MH on board services has always been great. that's doesn't change since back in the 70s and 80s. financial struggle and other issues brings down the quality of material things on the flight, but the onboard staff remains amazing and hospitable. I always try to fly MH rather than the low cost carrier. More so now.

Never took any flight ever but I have to tell you that many international airports all over the world tend to be located far away from city center since airports needs lots of free space around it due to airplane noise and safety risks.
Airports that operates within the city center like London Heathrow had to restrict midnight flights since these airplanes are loud, and you can't build high-rise buildings around the airport.
For growing cities like Kuala Lumpur, expanding Subang Airport is not an option since it'll lock out surrounding lands from further development, so they build KLIA a great distance away.

I am happy to hear that you have a good experience travelling on Malaysia Airlines. As you may have guessed, I am Malaysian. Therefore, I will always support my country carrier. Their inflight meals have improved by leaps and bounds after they changed the caterer. For long haul flights, you can choose from 3 choices instead of 2 in the past. The taste of the food has greatly improved. The attitude of the air steward and air stewardess have also improved in terms of friendliness and helpfulness. Currently, the CEO was a pilot. I think he bring a lot of positive bold changes to the company. I hope you will continue to enjoy our Malaysian Hospitality in the sky.
You are absolutely right to say that KL is like Singapore on budget. You are spot on to observe that. It's a wonderful city with plenty to offer for budget to high end visitors.

Before i had kids, i used to travel a lot for work. Depending on the destination and flight availability (i.e. company always chose the cheapest flight available) , i had tried a few different airlines. Malaysia airlines used to be my preferred airlines. Service was friendly, food was ok and the seat was more comfortable. There is slightly more leg room compared to other airlines. Since i no longer travel for business, i had not taken malaysia airlines for 4 years. Only budget airlines.

For me regardless of any airlines the cabin crews are the ones that will determine your flight experience. If they are in a bad mood then yeah what to do. I flew multiple airlines before and grumpy crews are everywhere regardless premium or low budget airlines. I flew Malaysia Airlines and got good crews most of the time and a few times crews which are just doing the bare minimum. So you are lucky of course.

That's really interesting that they refurbished the older aircraft. I flew business class on an A330-200 that was literally falling apart and filthy (there's a review as a Short posted on my page), so they must not have gotten to my particular aircraft yet. I did have a great experience with the crew, but your economy class meal looked a lot better than my business class meal.
I'd definitely still give them a go, just hoping they don't give me an equipment change from their newest A330-300 again.

As far as I can tell, MH isn't going to refurbish their A330s (both -200 and -300) as they'll be replaced with A330-900neos. However, it will refurbish its fleet of A350 starting in 2025 iirc. Still, that doesn't excuse its existing products to be left into the state of disrepair.

Fun fact for u, MH used to be Top 10 Airline. MH also is a twin sister company back then in the early years but then split up as Singapore withdraw from the Malaya Federation. They got the uniform and the logo while Malaysia need to come up with new logo and uniform. Hence, MAS is here.

Malaysia Airlines is great ! It has been my favourite Airline since 2009 and I love it. Sure it does have its challenges and has been hit in the worst way possible in the last decade. Nothing is perfect and yes I have had one or two problems with luggage missing and what not. I still believe that it is a great airline as the crew are so friendly, and KLIA is a great airport. Life comes with ups n downs and air travel is no different. Crack on and enjoy the flight !!!!

as a frequent flyer let me just say MAS is VERY underated.. MAS is considered cheap compared to other more popular airlines tbh.. yeah budget airlines seems cheaper but if u ordered food, add luggage, etc they cost more the same or more expensive than MAS.. also the service is tip top, the staff are super friendly tbh.. and the seats are comfortable! idk if you ever got stuck on 7 hr flight on a hard like hell seat before.. i got terrible backache after disembarking and couldn't enjoy my trip.. also i like that the pilots are usually good at landing.. most of the MAS flights will have a smooth landing..
if u ever in china, coming to the airport 6 hour before ur flight is a minimum requirement.. their staff will check EVERYTHING ur carrying.. and very strict... my friend got pull aside because she got a small hand lotion in her carry on that the bottle ingredient label is faded.. but u can see the logo of the brand and name clearly but they still made a big fuss out of it.. even my power bank was consficated just coz the labelling not so clear.. china airports are very stressful (even for domestic flights).. the staff checking out passport also made a big deal of someone with long names in our group.. like, took more than 15 minutes checking and counting the alphabets in his name..

after my own experiences at airports in china, i understood why my chinese friends advised me to come to the airport 5-6 hours before my flight time.. i thought they were bonkers! usually the max is 3 hours.. but now i know why.. hahahaha
