@@memybrain1458 its a fake game made to seem real, a 'family heirloom' if you would call it that to show that "Paul" is a decendent of some sort of the family that was depicted in the game. I think MatPat said in the first video that its a fake game made to seem real.

Strange situation? That’s the name of a psychology experiment done where there were 3 distinct attachment types, secure, insecure avoidant and insecure resistant. Maybe it matches up with the 3 types we see in the game, A B and NLM

@@TacticalAnt420 The Strange Situation experiment was designed by Mary Ainsworth to measure attachment security in children ages 12-18 months old using a sample of 100 middle-class American families. The experiment was set up in a small room with one-way glass so the researchers could observe without interfering and consisted of 8 stages that lasted around 3 minutes each:
1. Mother, baby, and experimenter together (lasts less than a minute)
2. Mother and baby
3. Stranger joins mother and baby
4. Mother leaves, stranger and baby alone
5. Mother returns, stranger leaves (first reunion)
6. Mother leaves, baby is alone
7. Stranger returns
8. Mother returns and stranger leaves (second reunion)
The attachment style was determined based on four behaviors towards the mother during the reunions (proximity and contact seeking, contact maintaining, avoidance of proximity and contact, and resistance to contact and comforting). The behaviors were scored from 1-7 based on intensity. There were three main attachment styles identified:
Secure (type B, 70% of infants), insecure resistant (type C, 15%) and insecure avoidant (type A, 15%). You can look into these further to find more information. Mary concluded that attachment style was influenced by the mother's behavior towards the baby. If the mother is sensitive and responsive to the baby's needs and provides consistent care, the baby develops secure attachment. Insecure resistant occurs if the mother provides inconsistent care (sometimes the baby's needs are met and sometimes they aren't), and insecure avoidant develops if the mother does not meet the baby's needs. These attachment styles also influence how the baby will grow up and feel about/act in relationships. Going by OP's idea, A would be secure, B would be insecure resistant, and NLM would probably be insecure avoidant.

Him to much. The game seems to have a complicated story to tell, may be using allegories to real life and it is updated so infrequently that when we get new information it completely changes the past videos. Like I noticed in one video Paul walks around a tire a specific way to get the house open. In another scene he is talking to Marvin in a field and it looks like he is walking in those same random directions.

I love things like this because I don’t really play video games but I love videos, explanations, and explorations of video game lore because it’s often quite rich. A whole series like this, based on a “fake” video game, really goes to show how much coding you can put into a video game, you don’t necessarily need it to play the game but it’s there.
Thanks to skill share that give me a moment to take a break from the fear of matpat scaring me again and again from most of the theory video I watched.

Matt I have a small theory about the windmill. As you already know the friend was killed. Based off what we see in the game she was killed in the windmill, so what if the windmill disappearing means that after Marvin kills the friend he leaves the body and then burns down the windmill to either dispose of the body or if someone finds the body it will look like the girl was trapped while it burnt down. I say this because when this happened police tech wasn't as good as it is today so they wouldn't have had any way to find out how she was truly murdered, or Marvin trapped her in there himself and then burnt it down, still resulting in her death and the windmill disappearing. This could also explain why you see it one way as yourself and another way as the shadow man, as the shadow man you could be seeing what Marvin see's given that fact that he would've been the one who did it, so it could be a memory you transfer into or a guilty conscience.

I was browsing though comments on "petscop 14" and read something very interesting. The writer talked about noticing this strange background noise. He first assumed it was a passing car from outside of Paul's house, but it went on for a while. He then sped it up 2k and heard piano music and children screaming inaudible things. It seems to be another connection to your "Marvin rebirthing children with piano music" theory.
Also, in the same video. The game freezes, and paul says "I have to call Jill". I find that very interesting because the name Jill was mentioned earlier in the game.

Taking the door off its hinges may have also worked.
Ah this was the theory I liked. Funnily enough, I think this theory is simpler than my interpretation. The DEMO sequences aren't just pre-rendered scenes, but a previous player's movement inputs recreated. I say inputs specifically because depending on which stage of game development (called generations) the inputs are replayed in, the DEMO shows a different result. It's kinda hard to explain in just text.
Anyway what does this mean for the lore? Well I think that the day Care returned they were traumatized. This obviously changed their mental state but most notably, they started bumping into doors and "seeing someone" The game seems to imply that Cares sees this closed door as open and sees someone on the other side.
Again my theory is pretty wacky but what if, when Care was kidnapped, taken to the school and went through this rebirthing process, there was an accident. They became a mix of 2 people instead of rebirthing into a completely new person. They are both Paul and Care with their memories now becoming jumbled. Paul states that the in-game conversation between the returned Care and their mother seems based off a real life conversation he had.
I theorize that Care's original memories slowly get erased overtime and Paul starts taking over, becoming his own individual. This game is about uncovering the past and making Paul remember who he used to be (for some reason)
There is a section where the player character is walking backwards to literally "retrace their steps" and are being told that they are: "A girl named Carrie Mark born in November 12th..." and a bunch of other info. (This is all from memory so forgive if this ain't all accurate)
This theory is p confusing and not perfect but yeah, it is what it is

The second picture, is a picture of a picture. The first picture (closed) is before the second picture, yes. But what if they took a photo of a photo from the past, when the door was opened? Visualisation: In 2017, the door is opened. Someone takes a pic of it. In 2018, it is closed. Someone takes a photo of that. Then, in 2019, they take a picture of the picture from 2017, and so, technically, the photo was taken after 2018, but the content was from before 2018. This would relate to the rebirthing; the 2019 photo is a rebirth of the 2017 version. But idk it’s a guess. I’m prob wrong
