I think there's another reference to Paul's inability to to tell right from left even earlier, in episode 3. When he enters Mike's room and looks at the to objects on table, he says "I don't know what that is on the right", but the object on the right is quite clearly a pair of tweezers and not something that would be difficult to identify, it's the object on the *left* that is strange/unidentifiable (the object which is later referred to as 'the tool'). Edit: There's another possible reference to this problem later, in episode 14. When describing the room behind the 'closed' door, he says "We can see what the room looks like in that recording; on the r-right? left? left? right side there's a windmill".
Hey everybody! I have not actually watched Petscop, ironically, but my partner showed me this GT series, and it led me down a rabbit hole that - I strongly believe - resulted in a really big and completely original discovery about Petscop. In short, that the Petscop series seems very strongly influenced by a science fiction novel: Dhalgren. This all came from trying to figure out the name of the series. Why "Petscop"? I checked the big compilation google doc of information about the game, and people have suggested that it's vaguely similar to "pet scoop," or perhaps it's actually "pets cop." And I thought, "Oh, that's funny, it reminds me of a science fiction novel I heard about a while ago." I checked the wiki page for it, and something caught my eye... "In addition, he [the protagonist] is dyslexic, confusing left and right and often taking wrong turns at street corners and getting lost in the city." This should ring some bells. Looking through the rest of Dhalgren's wiki page, we see some other interesting tidbits, including... - The protagonist, named "Kid," suffers from partial amnesia. (Do you remember being born?) - The protagonist reads a notebook which contains, word-for-word, the first line of the novel Dhalgren. The work is recursive (ship in a bottle), but the version inside the story is slightly different than the novel itself (like a successive generation in an evolutionary algorithm) - There is a city named Bellona (Belle?) - There is a character named Ernest Newboy (Newmaker?) - Even the author could be relevant: Samuel RAY Delaney, who sometimes wrote under the pseudonym K. Leslie SteiNER. RAY + STEINER - STEI = RAINER? Yeah, that's a reach. - But more interestingly, Mr. Delaney has used this alternate persona of "K. Leslie Steiner" to write his own biography. So that kind of echoes the Petscop situation: a guy on the internet pretending to be another guy playing a game that he made but is pretending he didn't. Also, Delaney is a man, but his nom de plume Steiner is a women (echoing the situation of Paul being a male version of Care). Fun fact: the biography by "Steiner" begins with an extremely precise depiction of Delaney's birth - More on the blending between author and character, the protagonist of Dhalgren is dyslexic and mixes up left and right because the author himself, Delaney, is dyslexic (like Paul "the author" having dyslexia, but he's actually not the author, he's a character himself, and his dyslexia has an in-game explanation) - The story is told by an unreliable narrator, and certain details like full names are never definitively confirmed. From the wiki: "passages of the book suggest William's last name is 'Dhalgren,' but this is never confirmed." (We have to guess Paul's surname from his presumed Reddit handle.) - The novel is highly self-referential, with themes that echo throughout. I'll just quote this whole section from the wiki: "Imagery and conversations, some hundreds of pages apart, closely echo each other. One case in point: The scenes on the bridge mentioned in the 'Plot Summary' above. In another, light sliding across the face of a trucker driving at night is echoed in the description of light sliding across the face of a building. The repeated motif of a scratch down the lower leg of several female characters at different points in the novel is yet another example." (The treadmill and the flower? The repeated sequences of movement?) - Also, the novel itself is "circular." The unfinished last sentence of the book "I have come to..." leads back into the unopened first sentence of the book "... to wound the autumnal city." That turns the book into a sort of mobius strip, the end leading back into the beginning (like successive iterations of an evolutionary algorithm?). This circularity is also depicted in the book by a character hearing the word "grendal" over and over again, but realizing he was parsing it wrong, and he was actually hearing "Dhalgren" over and over again. But wait! Just knowing its a "Dhalgren" reference is not enough. Act out that scene from the novel where the word "grendal" is said over and over again, but instead, say the word "petscop," quickly, over and over again until the words lose meaning. Say it even faster. And consider: would it sound any different if you were actually trying to say "IT'S A COPY"? This, to me, perfectly aligns with the theory put forward in these videos. That there's an evolutionary algorithm, and the AI "rebirths" are copies of copies of copies of copies... TLDR: "Hodor" is to "Hold The Door" as "Petscop" is to "It's A Copy." That's my game theory. Bonus: If you splice the word "petscop" into the word "care," you get "carpetscope." A clue to look at the carpet sprites more closely? Can someone please get this to the Game Theorists' attention? I think it would be of interest. Thanks!
This is all part of his cheap tricks, doing exactly the same thing as what he did to fnaf. He extends the videos and dumb them down for braindead kids to understand. Such a shame.
You know, I just rewatched this series again, and I do hope that you will finish this series. I know it's been three years and every day passing seems more and more unlikely. This is honestly one of my favorite lore videos. I got into the Petscop series because of you so I hope one day this series will have closure. Thanks for making the ones that are currently out.

I think there's another reference to Paul's inability to to tell right from left even earlier, in episode 3.
When he enters Mike's room and looks at the to objects on table, he says "I don't know what that is on the right", but the object on the right is quite clearly a pair of tweezers and not something that would be difficult to identify, it's the object on the *left* that is strange/unidentifiable (the object which is later referred to as 'the tool').
Edit: There's another possible reference to this problem later, in episode 14.
When describing the room behind the 'closed' door, he says "We can see what the room looks like in that recording; on the r-right? left? left? right side there's a windmill".
I think there is relevance regarding the friend that Paul is supposedly making these videos for if i remember correctly

Hey everybody! I have not actually watched Petscop, ironically, but my partner showed me this GT series, and it led me down a rabbit hole that - I strongly believe - resulted in a really big and completely original discovery about Petscop. In short, that the Petscop series seems very strongly influenced by a science fiction novel: Dhalgren.
This all came from trying to figure out the name of the series. Why "Petscop"? I checked the big compilation google doc of information about the game, and people have suggested that it's vaguely similar to "pet scoop," or perhaps it's actually "pets cop." And I thought, "Oh, that's funny, it reminds me of a science fiction novel I heard about a while ago." I checked the wiki page for it, and something caught my eye...
"In addition, he [the protagonist] is dyslexic, confusing left and right and often taking wrong turns at street corners and getting lost in the city."
This should ring some bells. Looking through the rest of Dhalgren's wiki page, we see some other interesting tidbits, including...
- The protagonist, named "Kid," suffers from partial amnesia. (Do you remember being born?)
- The protagonist reads a notebook which contains, word-for-word, the first line of the novel Dhalgren. The work is recursive (ship in a bottle), but the version inside the story is slightly different than the novel itself (like a successive generation in an evolutionary algorithm)
- There is a city named Bellona (Belle?)
- There is a character named Ernest Newboy (Newmaker?)
- Even the author could be relevant: Samuel RAY Delaney, who sometimes wrote under the pseudonym K. Leslie SteiNER. RAY + STEINER - STEI = RAINER? Yeah, that's a reach.
- But more interestingly, Mr. Delaney has used this alternate persona of "K. Leslie Steiner" to write his own biography. So that kind of echoes the Petscop situation: a guy on the internet pretending to be another guy playing a game that he made but is pretending he didn't. Also, Delaney is a man, but his nom de plume Steiner is a women (echoing the situation of Paul being a male version of Care). Fun fact: the biography by "Steiner" begins with an extremely precise depiction of Delaney's birth
- More on the blending between author and character, the protagonist of Dhalgren is dyslexic and mixes up left and right because the author himself, Delaney, is dyslexic (like Paul "the author" having dyslexia, but he's actually not the author, he's a character himself, and his dyslexia has an in-game explanation)
- The story is told by an unreliable narrator, and certain details like full names are never definitively confirmed. From the wiki: "passages of the book suggest William's last name is 'Dhalgren,' but this is never confirmed." (We have to guess Paul's surname from his presumed Reddit handle.)
- The novel is highly self-referential, with themes that echo throughout. I'll just quote this whole section from the wiki:
"Imagery and conversations, some hundreds of pages apart, closely echo each other. One case in point: The scenes on the bridge mentioned in the 'Plot Summary' above. In another, light sliding across the face of a trucker driving at night is echoed in the description of light sliding across the face of a building. The repeated motif of a scratch down the lower leg of several female characters at different points in the novel is yet another example." (The treadmill and the flower? The repeated sequences of movement?)
- Also, the novel itself is "circular." The unfinished last sentence of the book "I have come to..." leads back into the unopened first sentence of the book "... to wound the autumnal city." That turns the book into a sort of mobius strip, the end leading back into the beginning (like successive iterations of an evolutionary algorithm?). This circularity is also depicted in the book by a character hearing the word "grendal" over and over again, but realizing he was parsing it wrong, and he was actually hearing "Dhalgren" over and over again.
But wait! Just knowing its a "Dhalgren" reference is not enough. Act out that scene from the novel where the word "grendal" is said over and over again, but instead, say the word "petscop," quickly, over and over again until the words lose meaning. Say it even faster. And consider: would it sound any different if you were actually trying to say "IT'S A COPY"? This, to me, perfectly aligns with the theory put forward in these videos. That there's an evolutionary algorithm, and the AI "rebirths" are copies of copies of copies of copies...
TLDR: "Hodor" is to "Hold The Door" as "Petscop" is to "It's A Copy." That's my game theory.
Bonus: If you splice the word "petscop" into the word "care," you get "carpetscope." A clue to look at the carpet sprites more closely?
