I just watched this on Netflix last night. I like the show, but this scene made it next level. Eva Green crushed that scene (granted with some help from Dalton, cinematography, and production design.)

How many roles were given to many of these "movie stars", especially back in the day because studios and/or producers thought that having a movie star attached to a movie necessarily meant success or quality. Add to that preferential treatment, nepotism or overly aggressive agents and yes miscast roles as well. For the longest time people like Eva Green never got to shine and had to play second fiddle to less talented hacks. Glad to see that is somewhat changing.

Truly one of Eva Green's BEST performances! It was so enrapturing and scary all in the same moment. You could literally feel the terror creeping through you as the different spirits spoke through Vanessa and Sir Malcolm watched with fear, shock and anger. Madame Kali gave a eerie good performance as well herself.

It is! It was so dark and beautiful. All of the characters were amazing, watching them develop throughout the show, their human suffering, it's easy to relate to. Each character had their flaws, but they were all so beautiful in their imperfections.

One thing that most people don't know is jewelry is the oldest form of protection in magick, particularly rings, which is the circle. That's why she asked them to remove their jewelry to expose everyone at the table to the magick she was creating in particular Sir Malcolm.
Eva Green is phenomenal. She gives, one of, if not THE best acting performances I have ever witnessed, in this scene. Incomparable. Her acting is off the charts incredible. She manages to capture every facet of emotion, highs and lows, from sadness to joy to anger and rage, and even discovers a few new ones. Outstanding performance, Eva! Bravissimo! 💕
What makes it even funnier is knowing that she's a witch (from seeing her in season 2)- so a witch(a servant of Lucifer) who is obviously in charge of the other witches in her coven (they don't really say what a group of witches is called in PD) gets utterly terrified of this ancient spirit that possesses Vanessa :')
Eva Green has to be one of the most talented actresses of this generation. And it's kinda sad that she doesn't get the accolades and credit that she deserves. I'd literally watch anything that she plays in confidently knowing that I'm going to be immensely entertained. I can't wait for her next project!

Profanity for the sake of profanity can be removed or left in, it usually makes no difference to me. But for this scene however the profanity is integral and necessary. This scene is about 50% less powerful without it...
Timothy Dalton is clearly distressed. I think his reactions are purely genuine. Its clear that Eva green's acting is making him really emotional and he's been acting for a long time and seen it all. Eva Green is a brilliant actress
This scene would have been so impactful if we were given Vanessa's flashbacks first, instead I was confused. I went back after and cried when she said "did you name a mountain after me", that's the reaction I was supposed to have the first time I saw this.
I love when Evelyn AKA Madame Kali nearly craps her knickers (now knowing she is hundreds of years old and a true dark magic witch) when Vanessa channels the even older version of Amunet and she falls to the floor. Is that the moment she decides that Vanessa is the real deal and makes the effigy? From current season, it appears that Ms Ives true soul is older than even the borthers Lucifer/Dracula and are afraid of her in the asylum scene. I am hoping we find out more to this as well as how Ethan "The wolf of God" plays in. Great series!!!
Or maybe she was acting? I think, from watching season 2, that she knew Vanessa was going to be there, so she set up the séance to find out how powerful Vanessa is. She knew exactly who Vanessa was because she was there when Vanessa became Joan Clayton's (The Cut Wife) student. She was after her then. So she was probably acting to keep people from getting suspicious. With Evelyn being a Witch, that kind of thing wouldn't terrify her, it would most likely thrill her.
I was disappointed that Madame Kali turned out to be the main villain, because it ruins this scene. I thought Kali was just a fake seer who by chance has a REAL spirit show up at her seance, scaring the crap out of her. It was so funny watching her horror & shock. But it turns out Kali already knew about Vanessa, so her shock & horror here is feigned.
I remember watching the entire series when it came out, it was in the depths of a particularly cold winter here in northern Canada. Our place had this constant, underlying chill, despite the working indoor heating system.
great scene, after watching the flashback episode that came later in the season this scene made alot more sense to me because at first alot of what she was saying went over my head.

This scene and the padded room (blade of grass speech) in season 3 are among her best works. She rocks the role of Vanessa Ives, no other actress could have played that role. She is not a big woman, she is thin, and looks very frail in many scenes, however, she exudes power, presence, poise. She is amazing, and the whole cast was amazing.
This does not lose an inch of its haunting presence on me although I watched several times before. I even had the urge of aborting it. What a power of filmmaking. The acting, the music, the cutting, the effects. It’s just flawless. Of course, Eva Green does all the central work in this scene - and it’s phenomenal - but let’s not forget what Timothy Dalton does here is equally great. His acting stays aside, silent, and leaves room for Green‘s performance. Still, he manages to portray all that shame, remorse and anger of Sir Malcolm so intensely, just by using the expressions of his face. It is still one of my favourite shows. I so have to rewatch it soon.
Eva Green gave an Oscar winning performance here. Season 1 was one of the absolute best things I've seen on television. Just wish the series had a better finale. Hoping the spin-off does better with wrapping things up.

This scene would have been so impactful if we were given Vanessa's flashbacks first, instead I was confused. I went back after and cried when she said "did you name a mountain after me", that's the reaction I was supposed to have the first time I saw this.
Ok, I'm confused. Why name a mountain after Mina? How did she die? Who did Vanessa see doing something to somebody?

I love when Evelyn AKA Madame Kali nearly craps her knickers (now knowing she is hundreds of years old and a true dark magic witch) when Vanessa channels the even older version of Amunet and she falls to the floor. Is that the moment she decides that Vanessa is the real deal and makes the effigy? From current season, it appears that Ms Ives true soul is older than even the borthers Lucifer/Dracula and are afraid of her in the asylum scene. I am hoping we find out more to this as well as how Ethan "The wolf of God" plays in. Great series!!!
Or maybe she was acting? I think, from watching season 2, that she knew Vanessa was going to be there, so she set up the séance to find out how powerful Vanessa is. She knew exactly who Vanessa was because she was there when Vanessa became Joan Clayton's (The Cut Wife) student. She was after her then. So she was probably acting to keep people from getting suspicious. With Evelyn being a Witch, that kind of thing wouldn't terrify her, it would most likely thrill her.
And now it's cancelled so we might as well just forget all about it 🙃💔

I was disappointed that Madame Kali turned out to be the main villain, because it ruins this scene. I thought Kali was just a fake seer who by chance has a REAL spirit show up at her seance, scaring the crap out of her. It was so funny watching her horror & shock.
But it turns out Kali already knew about Vanessa, so her shock & horror here is feigned.

I remember watching the entire series when it came out, it was in the depths of a particularly cold winter here in northern Canada. Our place had this constant, underlying chill, despite the working indoor heating system.

great scene, after watching the flashback episode that came later in the season this scene made alot more sense to me because at first alot of what she was saying went over my head.

Interestingly, this is the scene I find both the best, and the most terrifying one. A piece of art.

Every once in awhile after watching a bad series I come back here to remember what acting and good series is really like. This scene, Eva Green, oh my god. I have to remember to breath when watching it.

This scene and the padded room (blade of grass speech) in season 3 are among her best works. She rocks the role of Vanessa Ives, no other actress could have played that role. She is not a big woman, she is thin, and looks very frail in many scenes, however, she exudes power, presence, poise. She is amazing, and the whole cast was amazing.
True power does not come from the physical body.
This does not lose an inch of its haunting presence on me although I watched several times before. I even had the urge of aborting it. What a power of filmmaking. The acting, the music, the cutting, the effects. It’s just flawless.
Of course, Eva Green does all the central work in this scene - and it’s phenomenal - but let’s not forget what Timothy Dalton does here is equally great. His acting stays aside, silent, and leaves room for Green‘s performance. Still, he manages to portray all that shame, remorse and anger of Sir Malcolm so intensely, just by using the expressions of his face.
It is still one of my favourite shows. I so have to rewatch it soon.
This here is probably the best scene ever in television / streaming history. Eva Green is such an amazing actress.
The knife scene in Breaking Bad's Ozymandias is number one, this is a very close second. Just my opinion.

Eva Green gave an Oscar winning performance here. Season 1 was one of the absolute best things I've seen on television. Just wish the series had a better finale. Hoping the spin-off does better with wrapping things up.

It didnt get cancelled, they made the decision that season 3 would be the last one.
Eva Green played the shit out of this role so well during this scene that I couldn’t sleep for days. It was _that_ terrifying. The fact that she doesn’t have any awards for this performance is beyond me.
I still don't understand, how eva green was not nominated in emmy that year. She should have won any awards for this one particulae scene.
