I have just discovered these Diesel Ducks and as an ex-deckhand on oceanographic research ships, I'm in love with these vessels. Proper ship, proper look, and must be so much fun to cruise on.

I remember seeing a Diesel Duck Book in a bookstore here in Sacramento CA about 25 years ago. For some reason I became infatuated with these kind of boats, perhaps because I was a Radarman on a U.S. Navy cruiser in the seventies and miss being out at sea. It is unlikely I will ever own one or even set foot on one, but I enjoy looking at videos of them. In any case thanks for the video. I plan to do the El Camino de Santiago trail in Northern Spain in April of 2018.

Hi everybody, this is me guyfihi under a different TH-cam name now with a new computer. I did the El Camino except in Sept of 2017 with my friend who grew up in Spain and speaks Spanish with a Spanish accent. We are back in Sacramento now and still hiking although most of the trails are blocked off due to the Corona virus.I also did a bus tour of Ireland in June of 2018. My picture is me sitting by a peat fire in County Kerry Ireland. I'm hard to see because the picture is so small.I am signed up to do a tour of Israel in Nov. 2020, but it might be cancelled due to Corona Virus rebound this fall. Hope everybody is in good health.

The galley passageway... usually one of the fuel tanks would go there. Where are the fuel tanks placed if you don’t mind my asking?
The five fueltanks including cruisetank are all welded in to the bottom of the boat. In this way she gets a double bottom as an extra safety feature as well as displacement deep down.
The bathing platform is an extra aft fueltank of 1500 litres. In total the boat carries a bit over 7000 litres of fuel.
If you can make a video of its handling in rough waters I’d appreciate it.
Do you have stabilisers, or do you just rely on the Paravanes? How much do they increase fuel consumption?
I rely on paravanes and sails. When deploying the fish speed is reduced 0,2-0,3kts.
On the other hand launching sails in downwinds reduces fuelconsumtion up to 30%
Is this equipped with the 135hp Deere or the 150hp ones?
Was trying to figure out which one is better.
Dora Mac is equipped with a John Deere 4045 TFM sometimes referred to as 135Hp and sometimes as 150Hp.
This version is without electronics which is considered better from a reliability perspective doing long legs like crossing oceans.
@@dieselduck2790 the one I am looking at have a 150hp "4045TFM50"; I thought in the perfect world I would like to have non turbo Iveco but I heard the Deere runs quieter and more fuel efficient.
How often do you use the sails, and how much do they reduce the fuel costs?
We use the sails in downwind and beamwinds. Downwindsailing in an oceancrossing/tradewinds fuelconsumtion is reduced 25-30%
@@dieselduck2790 considering that sails and rigging too need maintenance and replacement and that one doesn’t use sails most of the time because the destination is too near, the wind is too weak or too strong or is not blowing in the direction you want to go or it’s raining and one doesn’t want to get wet or one is just too lazy, does a trawler with sails really a) provide any economy b) make sense, considering that a trawler of same size but without sails has more space and more comfortable layout?

Sails are for downwind sailing. In 15kts of downwind speed would be around 5kts

how does a diesel duck compare to a trawler?
The Diesel Duck 462 is a fulldisplacement motortrawler capable of oceancrossings as opposed to semidisplacement trawlers made for coastal cruising.
What size engine do you have and how far can you go on a tank of fuel I believe that it has a top speed of 10 knots and a nice cruising speed of 7 knots, is this true ??
