  • Moby Duck is no longer for sale by JMYS.
    Moby Duck is hull 14, a 2014 model of the George Buehler designed, Diesel Duck. Manufactured by the Seahorse Marine yard in Zhuhai, China, she is a steel-hull long-range, sail-assisted passage maker.
    She was ordered contemplating every detail, by an experienced yachtsman who has previously owned (9) boats including four trawlers (two Grand Banks, a Nordhavn 55 and a Watson 72). He wanted to combine the bullet proof steel hull and efficiency of a heavy displacement sailboat, with the luxurious accommodations and creature comforts of his Nordhavn.
    Moby Duck was ordered so that the owner could travel shorthanded and safely anywhere in the world including extreme ice latitudes. The owner’s goals were efficiency, comfort, redundancy and safety in EVERY environment.

    I lived on my own sailboat for 10 years & crewed with a At Large Captain delivering yachts all over the world. Had the pleasure of delivering a ketch rigged Diesel Duck from San Diego to Alaska back in 1995. IMHO, the Diesel Duck is the most well built, safest yacht on the planet for the money. The entire crew was surprised at how well she sailed for a clam crusher. The only thing I'd change on Moby Duck is the god awful fire engine red hull paint to a tranquil sea green. Otherwise....it's perfect.

      PirateChucker: The Seahorse Diesel Duck is one of the best trawler values available and wonderful at sea. Paint the hull any color you want, keep in mind that red is very visible and offshore it’s not a bad idea to stand out.

      @@JeffMerrillYachts: Sir, I didn't fall off a turnip truck last night. I've literally sailed or motored yachts close to 150,00 nautical miles at sea, including 16 trips through the Panama Canal. I've circumnavigated the globe alone, unless you count Capt'n Morris... an extra large orange striped cat who decided to go with me, in my own 1980 Formosa 42 cutter rigged sloop which I spent two full years completely re-rigging for single hand operation, installed the auto pilot, the second forestay, and modification of the mast & boom. My adventure occurred long before GPS was standard equipment aboard any yachts. All I had was a reliable compass & the stars to guide myself & Capt'n Morris. I'm well aware of visibility issues at sea & safety is my #1 priority. That being said, I really hate the color red on a vessel with the exception of my buddy Jim's 46 ft Fountain with twin 850 hp engines. A Sea Green hull under sail with white deck & cabin structure is just as visible as dark blue, black, and several other hull colors.
      Alas, at 70 years of age my yachting days are behind me. I'm happy investing in dirt...several acres of old growth forest that looks more like tropical jungle than forest and surrounds my home in the mountains overlooking a beautiful River.

    I understand they are now offered with Iveco engine while they are used to come with turbocharged Deere. Is there any pro/cons to each engine?

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      WC: I am not sure what the new build specifications are now. Iveco engines have been used on many Diesel Ducks. The Deere was an option. They are both reliable propulsion packages, a lot comes down to service and parts in your cruising area.

    Impressed the security details. She failed to inform the size of the boat. I suggest not using angle lenses when shooting. Do not interrupt the images between one environment and another.

    Hi Jeff, how do these sail without the engine on? Also the main sail looks like it will hit the Bimini... how do you get around that? Thanks Phil

    • @JeffMerrillYachts
      @JeffMerrillYachts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Phil: I don't have a photo of the sail plan to share. The main sail is a high cut foot that clears over the Bimini. They sail "OK". George Buehler has been quoted as saying you can make "any continent" which I interpret to mean you can get to land, but maybe not the exact arrival location you want! But you can get back!

    i would never buy a chinese boat...it has a good chance something will fail for no reason without notice and the ship would sink a couple miles out of port.....water seepage through the steel...the steel molecules could release and a hole the size of a barrel could form in the hull....no way sir.

    • @nerblebun
